Medium sized speakers for desk use

Hi All,

I recently bought a pair of Klipsch RP-600M with Onkyo A-9010 amplifier driven by either a Dragonfly Black DAC or the built in DAC of the amplifier. Everything is good so far but the speakers are too big for desk use. Not just in size but in the overall presentation. These don't belong on a 5 feet PC desk that I use currently.

So, I will be moving these to proper stands and thinking of using a medium pair of speakers for desk use and normal PC audio. Any recommendations? I was thinking of going with ELAC B5.2. The amp will remain same. I will use the same amp and attach the banana plugs of required speakers as and when required.

Usage - 70% Music, 30% Movies. Don't use sub as I live in a small 2 bedroom apartment.

Any suggestions? Or any other ideas?

Thanks a lot.

Thanks a lot but these speakers are not available in India where I live. Any other recommendations? I can go up to USD 350. Just need good sound in a medium size.

Like the small size but they are deep. What about the Elac B6.2? I know it defeats my original purpose of going smaller but will it be that good over these 3020i? I think I am itching to buy another pair of speakers and just using the size factor as an excuse

I think that you really want to try Elac -- so test them out and see if they float your boat

Eh the Elac aren’t my favorites, I find them a bit too veiled.

How about the Q150, pretty similar in size to the 3020i but not as deep, and great imaging and detail. The coaxial driver also works well on a desk due to no potential for lobing.

The options available are -

1. Elac B6.2 or B5.2
2. Q Accoustics 3020i or 3010i or Concept 20
3. Klipsch R51M or RP 400M
4. Dali Spektor 2
5. Wharfedale Diamond 220

Don't want to exceed USD 350 as I already have a good pair of speakers for loud volumes. Just need something for desk use but good quality. Better than Audioengine A5+

For desktop use, I'd go with either the B6.2's or Wharfedale 220/225. Both are laid back and non fatiguing making them good candidates for nearfield listening. The Concept 20 while not bright will have excellent detail and clarity. The Concept 20's will need a sub though.

Thank you so much for the detailed reply and guidance. I will go with the B6.2s as I don't know much about the Wharfedales and I have this Elac itch to scratch .

And you are totally right about the fatigue. While the Klipsch are great for music in the room, they are not made for nearfield listening closer than 3 feet. This is exactly my experience. Thanks for wording it out.
