The denon 2400 looks like a great deal today for $240.
If you want a great center channel get the Emotiva C1 $212 for a renewed one. Do you have stands or placing on a shelf? Could use Emotiva B1 $200, If you dont have anything to put a book shelf speaker on can do T0 $340 or T1$424

2400/C1/B1= $652
2400/C1/T0 = $792
2400/C1/T1 = $876

If you go towers might be able to get away without a sub for a little atleast and spend the rest on projector and screen. Then save up for a sub. T1 play down to 40 hz and really they are good for most things other than bass heavy movies. I own these and have played around with them alot. T0 should be about the same they go down to about 50
I am mostly recommending the emotiva C1 since you want a great center channel. In your budget i have not seen another one that would work as well. And the other are options to match the center.

My fiance is from Green Bay and we were never aware! We are actually heading through that area this weekend. Will definitely check out this place this weekend or some other time! Thanks!

I think after reviewing everything I have been told I am going to start with NHT SuperOnes for L/C/R with the Denon 2400 receiver and the Dayton 1500 sub. I will eventually add SuperZeros for surround and at some point hopefully something for Atmos possibly these?

https://www.amazon.com/NHT-Atmos-Min...NB4X53XEJNA6R9

The Emotiva C1 sounds like a terrific center speaker, would this be an issue to use this as my center with the rest of the setup or should I keep it all NHT?

With you having acoustic ceiling tiles, upfiring modules aren't going to work for you. They'll just suck up every bit of sound vs. reflecting it back to you. Textured ceilings are also a problem with the upfiring modules.

If/when you decide to go Atmos, you could always make some kind of support brackets to use to mount in-ceiling speakers, or perhaps see if there aren't some available already for purchase. Plus, in-ceiling will give you the best results, so...WIN/WIN!

Its normally best to try and keep the front 3 in the same speaker line. Surrounds not as much. But there is no rule on it and some still enjoy the mixed speakers.
Not really a price difference between the B1 and the superones though. Might as well just get the 3 from from emotiva if you want them to match.

Are the emotivas better than the NHTs in your opinion? Or does NHT just not have good center options?

Not sure how the nth center sounds. But i do have super zeroes and emotiva e1 and kept the e1 in my 2.2 set up for the bedroom. Much clearer sound to me with the ribbon tweeter. The emotiva are also ported and has more midbass it sounded like to me.
The nht are nice speakers and sounded fine watching normal tv show but they felt lacking in action movies or music for my liking.

if you go up the NHT line to the C series the center is comparable to the C1, but is also twice the price. NHT are sealed so will have a more limited frequency response, but would be ideal if mounting flush to the wall. Emotiva are quite good for the price, but are harder to drive due to lower impedance. All things being equal, it's hard to say which is better as that would come down to personal preference. Both are well praised and I don't think you could go wrong with either one.

This HT build video might interest you.

Don't forget, getting into audio is/can be a long and very satisfying journey. It's really really good if you can develop patience and a plan to do this over a period of many months or more so you can get better quality components! You have a GREAT room for audio so hopefully you can fill it withe good stuff. And I'm for planning to match your front three speakers. Don't be afraid to start at 2.0 plus AVR even though I know it's tough! I'm only at 2.2 and surround sound down-mixed to 2.2 is wickedly good. You can achieve the same with a little more research into good speakers. :-)

Patience is hard for me ha. I really want to start with 3.1 either the NHT or Emotiva setup with a Dayton Audio 1500 sub. I have had surround once in my life and it was a cheap yamaha in the box system for like $300... and I THOUGHT that was awesome (since I was coming from tv speakers). I have since been on TV speakers again for the last near decade probably so tbh any and every speaker setup here will most likely blow me away. I want to start with a 3.1 on a budget and then just keep adding and upgrading from there, but I need something other than pathetic tv audio speakers right now.

Understood. I like the Emotiva and Denon 2400H option. I used a Denon AVR in my system and it was great. Although I've never heard Emotiva speakers personally they get a ton of great reviews. And from a previous post it sounds like you'd be able to match the front three within your budget. :-)

I didn't want to add more confusion to OP's decision but I almost mentioned Ascend as an option to strongly consider... But I'd keep the Denon 2400 AVR if possible because it's a really good for that price.

An Emotiva 3.1 setup will be miles ahead of any budget HTIB. In fact even a 2.1 would do better. If you have trouble with being patient and want 5.1 right away, go down to your local pawn shop or look on Craigslist and get some used speakers for $20-30 to use as surrounds. Worse case order some Dayton B452's for $30.

I am going to start with the build I mentioned earlier. Can anyone beat these prices for me? These are the prices I am finding.

Emotiva Airmotiv B1 speakers - $194 factory renewed (pair)
Emotiva Airmotiv C1 - $211 factory renewed
Dayton Audio 1500 sub - $199
Denon x2400 - $299

Thanks everyone for the help, I truly appreciate it so much. I will be working on getting these set up as well as the PJ and screen after I order this weekend. *Update* I was also able to get my fiance to go for the different room setup so I will be able to get a bigger screen

Last thing, I assume I need some speaker plugs and wiring of some sort, eh? Probably some sort of surge protector as well, or any other items you may think I need for home theater? Anyone want to provide their two cents worth on those items?

Ya I agree. AScend Acoustics has a B stock sale about this time of year as well, so could shave off some bucks that way and still get the same sound quality. Also I meant the CBM-340 center not the Sierra -1 center which is more expensive. I have a pair of CBM170s and they do pretty well for me and have demoed the Sierras and 340 before as well. so pretty confident in at least a good recommendation. Not knocking the Emotivas though at all. I have never owned that line and have heard them but only in a "non-critical" listening environment for sure. :-)

Emotiva does give a military discount for active and veterans. Will save a little. The sub seems normal price could wait for a sale. Seems the sale is over on the 2400 for 240. Other than trying to find used those prices might be the best you will find.

Ebay worries me, although the 100% feedback is really solid. Link?

I think you'll be very happy and impressed with that setup. A basic surge protector/power strip. Any 16 AWG oxygen free pure stranded copper will do: I have this but in 12 AWG. 16 AWG is fine:

Just neatly and firmly secure it without connectors unless you want them.

Also any HDMI cables (make sure they are 4K certified) for video between ther AVR, 4K player, and TV.

What is the ohms in a speaker? I remember someone said 4 ohms requires more power than 8 ohms. Will there be any issues with me running with the Denon x2400?

maybe. maybe not. Some gorry details. Bottom line for me -- if I am not using a beefy amp, I don't go with true 4 ohm speakers. That is just me.

I understand. It can be a crapshoot although I have bought electronics off there occasionally and haven't been burned once.
( not sure I can post an ebay link without breaking forum rules)

Do you see my greentoe post? I sure bet there with new products and authorized resellers only ( like bestbuy etc) You can save a few bucks and get a new one.

The C1 is rated at 4 ohms, per Emotiva site specs listed. The B1's are 8 ohms. Maybe Emotiva / Emotiva C1 owners can respond but normally we'd like to see all 8 ohm speakers. That Denon 2400 AVR is rated well at 95W into 8 ohms, 2 channels driven. The C1 recommended amp range is 75W-350W so the 2400 could be on the low side of that when driving all 3 speakers.

surge protection -

so this is a whole discussion -- for your rig, just be sure you get an actual surge protector and not just a power strip. Doesn't need to be expensive at all -- just make sure it is actually a surge protector -- they have some extra electronics/hardware inside the strip that makes it more than a glorified power outlet. Hope this helps. Again - does NOT need to be big bucks for basic better than nothin probably will be fine protection.

Agree on asking folks who actually have the C1. But based on those specs the center channel could be a problem with that amp especially when moving up a bit on volume. That Denon, based on specs only, won't allow that center to perform up to its capability and the aymmetry with the left and right channels will need to be handled by a channel volume adjustment on the denon ( easy to do). That center might crackle a bit or buzz or just not offer enough volume. I actually have short circuited/overloaded a couple of basic receivers with 4 ohm speakers, but that was many years ago.

I am going to stay away from other speaker brand recs for now. Don't want to muddy the waters.
