Decent upgrade from Elac Debut 6.2?

I have the Elac 6.2 bookshelves. I really love them, before them I had Sony Cores so that has been my progression. I am happy but they could always be better right?

If I had about $500 is there something out there that would be a worthy upgrade? I run them in a 5.1 setup with matching center (c6.2) with dual subs, they are older Klipsch 10's, not sure the model number. They are driven by a Denon x1400.

I am probably mixed 50/50 Music and HT. But I would want something that would really shine in music, rock, indie, hip hop, basically a variety.

Should I just leave them alone or are their worthy upgrades in this price range?

Great brand, they make great speakers but if you didn't like them it would cost at least $200 to return to A4L so there's that.

I'm in southern oregon. Portland would be a 4 hour drive. Not really worth it imo.

I don’t think there’s any amazing upgrades in the $500 price range.

$300->$500 not a huge jump.

There are Ascend Acoustics CMT340’s but I’m not sure those would be a ginormous upgrade, albeit a noticeable one.

I’d wait till you can save up.

Perhaps check out the stuff at DIYSG.

$500, I'd make a beeline for the Emotiva T1 if you have the floorspace for towers...they were a good value at $700/pr originally but current clearance prices are stupendous.
https://emotiva.com/collections/loudspeakers

Slightly smaller T-zeros at $340-400 are also a standout, since you have dual subs they'd be fine unless you're looking for super loud wall shaking volumes.

Ascend 340SE and Chane A2.4 also worth looking into, both are excellent at high volumes if that's your habit.

~ Are you a "geek hobbyist" obsessed with squeezing out that last 5-10% improvement? The economy will thank you...especially the Chinese one. Or are you more of a get-set-and-forget "casual user" who simply wants to increase your enjoyment of movies, TV and gaming? Relax, HT isn't rocket science, nor does it have to cost an arm and a leg---especially if you ignore the aforementioned vocal minority. And remember to smile...it's just a silly hobby, after all. :)

I was worried that that might be the case.

Here’s a pair of Polk LSiM703 in great condition for $500, and gently used: https://www.usaudiomart.com/details/...vernon-cherry/

These would be a nice upgrade over your Elacs, and you can get the matching center for a good deal from Polks EBay store down the road.

5.1: Samsung PN60F5300 | Sony BDP-S1700 | Denon AVR-1713 | EMP E55Ti | EMP E56Ci | EMP E5Bi | Outlaw Ultra-X12

2.0: Oppo DV-980H | Apple Airport Express | Topping D30 | Parasound HCA-1500a | Chane A1.4

look into Airpulse Model 1 (A200) or the newer model with the 6.5 mid-bass driver
the midrange is as good as it gets for a $1000 and under monitor
electronic music sounds absolutely incredible
Alt-J will level you
Prodigy will leave you gutted

Interesting, I don't think I would want a powered speaker, seems like it would add to the cost quite a bit no?

I feel the level of performance justifies the price ... there are alot of speakers around $1000 but I don't know of any that sound better than this 2 way powered monitor. you may be able to pick up the A200 for $800 brand new. Used they would be an incredible bargain. Please let us know what you decide on....

I'm just testing the waters right now to get some second opinions. It would take me a while to save up the money. Trying to figure if it's worth it.

I am presently running just DAC-powered monitor/subwoofer 2.1 combos so this is where my system is at these days...

$500 for the front 3 is probably a horizontal "upgrade". I would recommend you wait and save some additional $, so the upgrade is actually an upgrade.

So, is there just money burning a hole in your pocket, or are there issues with eh system that need to be addressed? What kind of issues. What do you like/dislike about the system?

What about limitations? WAF issues? Size issues ()? Placement issues?

It's a VIRTUAL channel unless stated otherwise.

No I meant $500ish for L/R. I am happy with my system, actually really happy, I just want to be blown away, and on a budget lol. As far as WAF yes that is a concern, she doesn't really like towers but she has come to appreciate the sound system so we can get there.

$500 can buy you a realistic upgrade, when you aim at close-out or discontinued deals and Craiglist etc., because I have done that a few times

"Blown away" is often a function of the subwoofer(s). Upgrading to a HSU VTF3-5 might be the next step for you.

Yeah I don't know all the audio lingo. But I want to put on some music and have a rich, warm kind of experience.

The guy at Best Buy showed me some B&W towers, and that was the feeling I got, wow. I think it was jazz or classical and I felt like I was at a live show. But those cost like
2 grand I think. So I am wanting to get closer to that on a preachers salary.

For a noticeable step up in sound quality, getting speakers at close-out prices or used is your best option such as these Canton
https://www.accessories4less.com/mak...te-pair/1.html
If you want to be blown away, upgrade to a Monolith, HSU or Rhythmik sub.

Kef LS50,Q200C, Q100, SVS SB-2000, Denon AVR-X3400H, , Panasonic 50" Plasma, Xbox One.
Bedroom: JBL Loft 50 , Loft 20, Bic F-12, Denon AVR-S710W, PS3, 32" Insigna LED.

I'm ok with that when the time comes. Returns would probably suck.

I saw that. They were using the towers but I have heard there's not a huge difference from the bookshelves.

I’d suggest that you continue to save up for a few more months or so and enter the $1k price range for a better “upgrade”. The Debuts are good speakers at their price. Be patient.
