Questions about these speakers

JBL 305P MkII 5" Two-Way Studio Monitoring Speakers (Pair)

These are the speakers i want. I have heard they are great. Is that true? Are they worth buying for listening to music on YouTube? Is it worth using with an iPad mini 2, or even a computer used for email, YouTube, a writing papers? Is it simple to connect to an iPad mini 2?

I had the slightly larger 308s for a weekend and took them back. They're not for me. Even for the intended use as a little garage system. I was trying to avoid getting another integrated amp for the garage and losing anymore shelf space, but if I don't like the sound then that takes care of that.

I had them for a desktop system but returned them for the tiny audioengine a2+(I use a 12in sub). if you are avg person you will probably like them. I just hate jbl I guess....had horrible experience with them in late 80's or early 90's and cant let it go....

I went over to the hangout hotels for the Columbus Good Guys show and at the Doubletree there was a small band with JBL PA speakers so a very good reminder why I don't go near those. Then went up to one of the Hilton Hotels where more activity and it was a DJ with JBLs. I simply can not stand the sound those thing make.

lots of harman/jbl/revel knockoffs being made in china nowadays for pennies. might want to look on amazon for the chinese brands that get great reviews. also the brand kali is made by ex jbl/harman engineers.

I like audioengines silk dome tweeter and size, but they are tiny...2 inch woofer lol. https://www.amazon.com/Audioengine-A...A2H3DYB5PUVNNI
I paid $180 for my red pair new on sale.

if you get desktop speakers I strongly urge people to get stands that angle the speakers up

The JBL 305's are fantastic speakers with excellent sound quality irrespective of price. The fact that you can get them on sale from time to time makes them a tremendous bargain.

A product line that you might be happier with is Edifier.

I didn't end up going this way because I still had a set of nearly 40 year old Sequerra Met 7s that I ended up using with a small SMSL amp and its worked great. These were the first 'bookshelf' speakers with time aligned drivers with great imaging, but nothing will image much when placed in a bookshelf or up against a wall so that wasn't going to matter. Anyway, I got by with stuff that I already had.

Still, if I were to go with a new set of desktop speakers, this is likely the way I'd go.

Nearfield music listening, esp. of low bitrate compressed sources like YouTube, I'd want something warm and forgiving. Amazon has the Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 for $175/pr shipped right now, I'd get that with a $50 SMSL T-amp and enjoy the extra security of knowing that if the amp ever dies on you it's easily replaceable instead of sticking you wiht an expensive pair of doorstops.

~ Are you a "geek hobbyist" obsessed with squeezing out that last 5-10% improvement? The economy will thank you...especially the Chinese one. Or are you more of a get-set-and-forget "casual user" who simply wants to increase your enjoyment of movies, TV and gaming? Relax, HT isn't rocket science, nor does it have to cost an arm and a leg---especially if you ignore the aforementioned vocal minority. And remember to smile...it's just a silly hobby, after all. :)

Try them as no one can speak for your ears -- their frequency measurements are really good -- in the end it is all about preference -- if you find for some strange reason that you do not like them, then return them.
