Buying Advice: Martin Logan Renaissance 15A vs. ML Expression 13A

I want to make a decision soon. I can get the Renaissance 15A for about $12,500 in pristine condition. The Expressions are about $7,250. My room is not too big. My subs are dual HSU VTF-3 HO's plus Turbos.

Will be using a Denon X8500h to power them.

All comments and suggestions are welcome.

Thanks in Advance

The last speakers I had in my system were Mission M73's. I also have a pair of JBL Studio 590's still in the box.

Well my first question is, do you want these?

Or are you just buying because they are a great deal which is what it sorta seems?

Leave it at 8 ohms and call it a day :)

You will likely need a high-current, high-powered amp to drive either of those electrostatic speakers. You could usie the Denon as a processor and make use of Audysee, but t will probably not have the oomph to drove them on it's own.

They do have built-in amps for the bass drivers in both of those, looks like those power everything below 300Hz (where you need all the power) and the 8500H is relatively beefy as far as amplifiers go. I'm not sure how much of an issue if any he would have. Power requirements with program material drop off significantly about 500Hz so it's really just the 300-500Hz band where you would need the 8500H to be working hard.

That said I'd probably still recommend looking for a good 2 channel amplifier that is stable at low impedances at high frequencies.

Ask in the 2 channel section where Scott has ESLs and likes them a lot.

They need a LOT of room from the rear wall and high quality power as he tried them with Marantz AVRs and they shut down.

Narrow sweet spot.

after just recently getting magnepan lrs which I know is not same as esl's....if you want any kind of room filling volume, you will need some power....my focals can hit 110dbs while lrs only 96dbs......thats alot. scott think said he can get 110db's out of his esl's....I would pm him

i love esl's with huge bryston amps....they fill the room.
