Does it matter whether the speaker is video/magnetically shielded?

I'm not looking to purchase any new speakers since I only just upgraded everything less than 1 month ago (though that still hasn't stopped me from looking at other speakers), but the Polk RTi A1's I got all claim to be video/magnetically shielded - and one reason why I chose them over the S15's. I just don't see very many bookshelf speakers with this as a feature, so how critical is it for the speaker to be video/magnetically shielded?

But what if you have video game consoles/external HDDs near unshielded speakers?

You wouldn't have the console close enough to affect it. Even if the gaming console sat on top of the speaker I don't know if the magnet is strong enough. But at typical distances it's definitely not an issue.

I’ve had my Ultimax 18” sub next to my PC which has 2 HDDs.

The bass didn’t damage it. Neither did the massive triple stacked magnet. So I think your little bookshelves will be fine next to a console.

Leave it at 8 ohms and call it a day :)

So there's essentially no advantage to shielded speakers vs. non-shielded.

Not unless you have a CRT Tv.
