KEF R11 AMP Requirements

Hi all- I have my KEF R11's hooked up to a Peachtree Nova 220SE. The specs sheet say 15-300 watts, 8-3.2Ω.

Should I be seeking a more powerful solution, now that the Nova 500 is released? That has 500 watts, 2.5-16Ω compatibility.

I don't want to waste $3,000 for no improvements (or minimal), but if it'll spark my already-stellar setup, I'm open to the investment. As is well known, KEF tend to be great bargains for their prices, but require the proper power.

Save your money. The extra power is not needed.

Unless you are running through 200+ of the watts it can hand out, I’d say probably not.

Is there anything you are missing currently?

Leave it at 8 ohms and call it a day :)

re

It's hard to say what's "missing" without A/B comparisons.

As for the 220SE, I don't even have it at 1/4 on the dial, even on my "loud" listening days. So I don't think lack of output power is an issue. Perhaps if I traded to B&W 802's or such, but that's a different story.

My thought was perhaps it gave it some audio fidelity improvements through the new components (Sabre DAC/ICEpower) that was just released.

So at $3,400, I can get an $850 credit. So I'm paying $2,550 out of pocket for a brand new, 500-watt Integrated Amp with all new components and 3 year warranty.

While I have some experts...I have my Marantz streamer to my amp via Audioquest RCA cables. However, it does have an Optical out...should I be using that?

I see now Amazon has entered the lossless realm today, so that's interesting since I primarily use Tidal.

It depends on which DAC you’d like to use. If you connect via optical, it’ll use the peach tree DAC, RCA and it uses the Marantz DAC.

I've never given it much thought to which is better? It's a Marantz CS4398 DAC. I leaned towards a streamer that costs $650 to have a better DAC solution, but that might not be the case.

I use Tidal via Airplay to the Marantz, which goes to the AMP.
