Looking to get a pair of bookshelf speakers. Current space is a wide open great room. Use is 50/50 movies and music. Plan is to use these to expand into surround set up after I move next year, so interested in something with a good matching center or option to buy single speaker as matching center to add on later. Have sub now. AVR is Marantz NR1710, so 50W/Ch or bi-amped for more power. Looking $400-$1600 for the right choice. Lots of reviews direct me to the LS50 but can I get not quite as good for considerably less? Is my power enough for those?

They have a $10 flat rate return shipping policy, so I would order both and see how they compare in YOUR room, with YOUR gear and music, and most importantly with YOUR ears....simply return the loser!
The Wharfedale is a 3 way design with a bigger woofer that gives you an extra 15-20Hz of mid-bass, plus an AMT tweeter. If I had to bet, you might well prefer it...but only you can decide for yourself.
Just for sh*ts and giggles, you could also try out the $229/pair Emotiva B1s to see how much of a difference $870 makes vs the Evos. (HINT: probably a lot less than 400%!) https://emotiva.com/collections/loudspeakers
Crutchfield is an excellent place due to their great return policy on bookshelves but it is $10/box for 60 days; the (awful) KLH Albany's I ordered were just one box, (so only $10/return), the (excellent) LX16s that replaced them for my friends came in two boxes so would have been $20 to return those but they kept them.
But shipping back the Albanys was "free" in the sense that the $10 charge came out of the rewards points Crutchfield gave for buying the LX16s so the refund was for the full amount.
I'd definitely suggest that if the OP orders two pairs of speakers from Crutchfield that the EVOs be one of them.
if you want co-axial, check out Hsu CCB-8 369 each...
check out Ascend acoustics.
$ : CBM -170 (300) (C -150)
$.5 : CMT-340- (500) (C-300)
$$ : Sierra 1 - ( 750) (C- 450) currently there's a used Sierra 1 LCR on ebay for 750...
if you're handy, check out the volt series ( co-axial) from DIYsoundgroup.com they'll run you about 150 - 200 / speaker. high sensitivity and high output!
Polk had crazy pricing on LSiM recently, not sure if that is still on. Speakers, you tend to get what you pay for. That does not mean that 20% more money guarantees you better sound, but $1600 should definitely sound better than $400 (crazy sale or used prices aside). It's design and parts and physics, there's no magic, though some direct sales models can help. As for the bookshelves, are you putting them in shelves? Or on stands (in which case does that have to come out of the budget?). I'm prejudiced for towers over bookshelves on stands, primarily because the unused space offends my engineering sensibilities-but also because I think stands are never attractive (except maybe to audio nerds) and because more extended bass can integrate better to subs and have better unstrained midbass output. OTOH, it really depends on available models; if you accept cheap stands the same budget might get a step up of bookshelf versus a lesser series of tower.
What about Klipsch rp-600m I see tons of videos on youtube about these, was thinking of trying them out but they don't have mounting screwholes in the back.
The M5 is probably better for movies (to be honest I've never run them in the same room for an apples-to-apples comparison), but I like the transparency of the M22.
Another plus for Crutchfield is their speaker compare app. It won't paint the whole picture but will help determine which you may like and dislike. They have lots of different options across multiple price points. I'll suggest Revel, Martin Logan LX16 and Kef LS50. https://www.crutchfield.com/speakercompare/
