You really need to get over this "price equals quality" assumption.

Look, I'm going to be blunt here: you have a tiny 10 x 10 room, and all you're going to do is watch movies and play games in it---that means the speakers will be crossed over at 80Hz to a subwoofer. In other words, easy-peasy...ANY half-decent speaker costing as little as $200-300 apiece can easily do that for you every bit as well as any speaker that SVS makes: Ascend 170SE or 340SE, Chane A1.5 or A2.4, RSL CG5 or CG25, etc. etc. ad infinitum.

Are there speakers that can do it BETTER? Probably, but in such a small space and using a subwoofer and doing zero music listening, will you ever hear the slightest difference? Extremely unlikely.

That's like buying an exotic sports car when all you're going to do is crawl along at 10-30mph in rush-hour freeway gridlock every day.

So is there anything that's technically better than the SVS system in a similar price range?
If you insist on spending a lot more than you have to, to get a prettier package that probably YES will be "technically" better (esp. since you mentioned you liked electrostatic headphones) then I would look into the Wharfedale Evo 4.1 or 4.2 speakers, or Martin Logan Motion bookshelves or the PSA bookshelves (they just won't be as pretty as the first 2).

But hey, it's your money. You have the divine and constitutional right to squander it in any way you wish.
Alan P likes this.

~ Are you a "geek hobbyist" obsessed with squeezing out that last 5-10% improvement? The economy will thank you...especially the Chinese one. Or are you more of a get-set-and-forget "casual user" who simply wants to increase your enjoyment of movies, TV and gaming? Relax, HT isn't rocket science, nor does it have to cost an arm and a leg---especially if you ignore the aforementioned vocal minority. And remember to's just a silly hobby, after all. :)
