Small bookshelf speaker recommendation

Hi all,
I have a pioneer receiver VSX 1022 with a 5.1 sound system as the primarily already set. But for listening to songs occasionally I am looking for small speakers (pair) for listening to songs. these will be wired to speaker B output. They are going into 12 x18 living room.

Can anyone recommend small bookshelf speaker for under $500?
Appreciate any recommendations

$10 flat rate return shipping in case you don't like them:

~ Are you a "geek hobbyist" obsessed with squeezing out that last 5-10% improvement? The economy will thank you...especially the Chinese one. Or are you more of a get-set-and-forget "casual user" who simply wants to increase your enjoyment of movies, TV and gaming? Relax, HT isn't rocket science, nor does it have to cost an arm and a leg---especially if you ignore the aforementioned vocal minority. And remember to smile...it's just a silly hobby, after all. :)

Are you in the US?

What is the maximum height, width and depth you are willing to live with?

The larger the cabinet/drivers, the better the bass will be.

Wow the NHT C1 looks what I need. However looking at the C-3, they have more bass. But would they be fine in an 12 x18 living space? Now I tempted to break the budget.

I really recommend the C3. I have the earlier version--the NHT Classic 3--fantastic speakers with great reviews. The C3 has essentially the same speakers with a revamped cabinet. Here is a review of the C3: https://hometheaterhifi.com/reviews/...peaker-review/

I also have a pair of NHT Absolute Zeros which are the predecessor of the C1. These are great speakers especially when coupled with a sub for those low notes.

Both are great speakers and terrific values for the absolutely great sound they have. The C3 are rated down to 55hz and so could work without a sub for most music.

Panasonic TCP65VT60, Denon AVR-x6200w
Oppo UDP-203, Dish VIP722
NHT C4 front speakers, NHT C LCR center spkr
NHT Classic 3 surrounds
Velodyne Optimum 12 & DLS-5000R subs

If you are within a 4 hour driving distance of the Boston MA area, run like hell and grab this screaming bargain:

Was sorely tempted myself but promised the wife no more additional speakers for a couple years, lol

Which Ascends do you have in your current system?

It’s now about 12 years old.
CMT 340 center
CBM 170 fronts
HTM 200
And that huge ugly SVS 25-31pc sub

But the sound is great

Very very nice.

It would be interesting to hear your take on the NHT C3.

Here's a review and measurements.

I guess it's technically not the current version but I'm sure quite similar in performance.

http://www.soundstagenetwork.com/rev...ssic_three.htm

Measurements here and they also tested your Ascend 170s so you can compare the measurements of the two.

Personally I'd go for the Sierra 1, but I have heard great things about the C3 too.
