First time setting up a 5.1 speaker system, advise needed to do it right

I'll be soon setting up my first 5.1 system with Polk speakers, Monolith sub, and Danon x3500H, any advice on standard steps that I should follow to set up this properly?
Are there any best practices for setting this up?
Are the any specific settings to look out for?

I'm asking because I heard things exercising the speakers for 48 hours a low volume before actually using it.

thanks,

Nope, plug in and enjoy.

You can try the Audessey EQ but try with and without it to determine what sounds better to you.

Leave it at 8 ohms and call it a day :)

"Speaker break-in" is a very controversial topic. Maybe 50/50 split in opinion outside of the hardcore of "audiophile" enthusiasts, the same crowd that swears by magic voodoo cables and such will swear by it. I've experienced with one or two speakers, and not with others.

As for setting up your receiver & other gear, there are tons of instructional vids on YouTube.

~ Are you a "geek hobbyist" obsessed with squeezing out that last 5-10% improvement? The economy will thank you...especially the Chinese one. Or are you more of a get-set-and-forget "casual user" who simply wants to increase your enjoyment of movies, TV and gaming? Relax, HT isn't rocket science, nor does it have to cost an arm and a leg---especially if you ignore the aforementioned vocal minority. And remember to smile...it's just a silly hobby, after all. :)
