Yet Another Center Speaker Dilemma: 4 KEF Q100's need a center

I just acquired a pair of Q100's to go along with my existing pair. Now I have 4 of them and getting set for my first proper home theater setup after 9 years of making do with an HTIB. Been hunting high and low for a Q200 center, but I only ever found 2 online that is out of my budget, $400 and $500 used, Canadian dollars. I've read that a single Q100 would be a nice alternative to have, but obviously I don't see a single one being sold by its lonesome. So after more searching I stumbled upon this JBL center: JBL Stage A125C ( sorry cannot post a direct link ). On paper it has specs that is close to the Q100, except the impedance, the JBL is rated at 6ohms, the Q100's at 8ohms. I welcome any technical advise / opinions whether the JBL center is worth getting. Thanks. ( My setup: 4-KEF Q100's, KEF Q400 sub, receiver Denon AVR-S740H, area is relatively small, 13 feet x 10 feet. )

Order a single Q150 to use as a center on its side from this US site.

Even with shipping/customs should be cheaper than what you can find in Canada.

A pair in Canada is $398 Canadian at the moment, so only $300.

The proposition of having an extra speaker lying around is mighty tempting. I see a couple Q100 pairs listed, if I can get a seller to ship them to me, use one and have a spare just in case. But how to justify to the spouse , tell her the extra speaker is for my beer stand? Hmm, decisions decisions.

In your situation a Q150 would work nicely. If you're worried about performance, it would be easy enough for you to test out by using one of your surrounds as center. Yeah you'd have a spare, but it's still more cost effective than a Q650c. The spare can serve as a center for a bedroom setup.

Kef LS50,Q200C, Q100, Kef Kube 10B (X2) , Denon AVR-X3400H, Panasonic 50" Plasma, Xbox One.
Bedroom: Kef Q100 ,JBL Loft 20, SVS SB-2000, Denon AVR-S710W, PS3, 32" Insigna LED.

If you keep the boxes just keep the extra in there like I did. I ran 5 x q100s for about 1.5- 2 years and later got a q200 center. The q200 mostly just added a bit of dynamics to the sound, but the single q100 was still very good. I only upgraded when I found a center for a reasonable price. I personally wouldn't have felt it was worth it at the full price either. I think you'll be more than happy with all q100s, or you can do as others had mentioned and get a pair of q150s. Good luck!

You could get a pair in Canada directly from KEF or Visions.ca for that price when you include shipping/exchange/duty/taxes.

just tell her it's easier to sell a pair than a single .. even with a long term investment that argument stands up..

I have contacted some sellers of Q100 pairs, if they do not offer shipping, I might go this route. 2 - Q150's for fronts and use one of the Q100's for center. I thank everyone for their inputs. Will update this thread of the outcome.
