Ascend 170 Se170's or RSL CG3's for L/C/R?

for small room, pic included. Thinking about hanging the TV on the wall about 12 inches up. Will use Adventage 780 for receiver. PS,will use 2 more of whatever I chose for surrounds

another question! Rythmic L12,SVS NSD-12, or the Speedwoofer10? Its a small apartment room, so I'd assume the SW10 would be way plenty, and the size would be the best of the 3 for limited space

Ascend 170 anytime, CG3 are satellite speakers and 170 are full size bookshelves, if you can fit them of-course

If I wall mount the TV on the wall, I will have an area of 51" wide for front stage on the entertainment center. I could lay either choice on their side, L/C/R.would be a tight fit, but would probably be a huge improvement over my Sammy 950 sounder

170SE by a country mile over the CG3...it's got 6.5" woofers vs the 4.5" on the CG3. No contest.

Another good option with 6.5" woofers would be the NHT SuperOne, $113 apiece from Amazon. It's a more compact and sealed cabinet, whereas the 170SE is a bulkier rear-ported design. If wall mounting or putting inside a cabinet, the NHT would be a better choice IMO even though the Ascend will be a bit more neutral.

I would still get the PB12---all you need to do is turn the gain knob down. The RSL sub would be ok but if you ever move to a bigger place you'd have to sell it and end up spending more in total.

~ Are you a "geek hobbyist" obsessed with squeezing out that last 5-10% improvement? The economy will thank you...especially the Chinese one. Or are you more of a get-set-and-forget "casual user" who simply wants to increase your enjoyment of movies, TV and gaming? Relax, HT isn't rocket science, nor does it have to cost an arm and a leg---especially if you ignore the aforementioned vocal minority. And remember to smile...it's just a silly hobby, after all. :)

For small apartment, laying on their sides I'd get the very versatile Ascend HTM 200 SEs as they are the best choice for laying on their sides due to their offset tweeters.

I would not get the massive PB12 for a small apartment based on size alone.

Here are sizes etc. for the three subs you are considering.

2 years 350watts =15w16h17d= 40 lbs 10" [30hz] $399 RSL SPEEDWOOFER 10S, (extension from Sound & Vision review)

5 years 400watts =17w21hx22d= 66 lbs 12" [19hz] $500 SVS PB12 NSD, (extension from Sound & Vision Review)

3 years 300watts =14w14h16d= 58 lbs* 12" [18hz] $539 RHYTHMIK L12

what surrounds would you recommend to go with the HTM 200's. They would have to be pretty small, I've enclosed a pic of my current surrounds speakers for size reference

I'm torn now between the RSL CG3 5.1 system, with the CG23 center and Speedwoofer10,and the Ascend HTM 200x3,170SE surround x2,no subwoofer chosen yet. The Rhythmic 12 is $599 and is probably total overkill for my room, but may come in handy if I move to a larger place in the future.I think the Speedwoofer10 overall would be my best choice. Will look at HSU for something small, too

RSL has a 30 day risk free trial so........... take advantage of it. If you like how it sounds keep it, if not move on to something else.

Klipsch RF-62II, RC-500, RS-400, SVS PC12+,
Def Tech SC8000
Onkyo RZ820
Roku Ultra, Apple TV, Sharp 70" Quattron

A little analysis between 3 different brands:

Ascend 200SE = dual 4" woofers, sealed cabinet, $150 ea. + shipping
RSL CG23 = dual 4" woofers, front ported, $200 ea.

Ascend 170SE = single 6.5" woofer, rear-ported, $150 ea. + shipping
NHT SuperOne = single 6.5" woofer, sealed cabinet, $113 ea. (Amazon)

RSL CG3 = single 4" woofer, front ported, $135 ea.
NHT SuperZero = single 4.5" woofer, sealed cabinet, $70 ea. (Amazon)

The Rythmik LV12F at $600 would be worth the extra $200 over the RSL sub, imo.

For your situation I'd get 5x200SEs plus this $549 sealed, not ported, subwoofer here are the differences in size.

It seems that Rhythmik just took a price increase on all their subs.

I have a 15" sealed subwoofer from another manufacturer and in my medium sized room I think the damned cabinet is too large and it is "only' an 18" cube and the room is about 18'x15'.

If you are intent on getting a ported sub make sure you make a cardboard mockup of the cabinet size as you might be shocked, especially in a small space like yours.

3 years 300watts =14w14h16d= 58 lbs* 12" [18hz] $549 RHYTHMIK L12

3 years 300watts =16w22h21d= 69 lbs* 12" [19hz] $599 RHYTHMIK LV12F

that's a great looking system, although I would buy the 170SE's for the surrounds to save money, the 200SE's would be too big hanging in the corners I would think. With shipping this setup is $1271.00 shipped, compared to the RSL package{4 CM170SE's,1 CG23,and the Speedwoofer10,which comes in at $1079. Plus with the Ascend setup, I would have 6 woofers instead of 4 along the front L/C/R. Total width on the 200's would be 33 inches, leaving 6 inches of distance between speakers. I know, not optimal for stereo imaging, but its the best I can do, right? But I would bet this would completely blow away my Samsung 950 sound bar!!!!!!!!! Any other 12 inch sub recommendations for around $500 that aren't huge?

Well the SVS SB1000 has free returns if not happy.

This is a 10" that is worth considering.

The Monolith line has gotten a lot of praise on AVS but some have complained about customer service when problems arise.

With the powerful amp it will compete with the 12" sealed subs from others.
