Sonance In-Celing Speakers

I am seriously considering these as the Atmos heights in my upcoming 7.1.6 system. Any thoughts or experiences with them?

I don’t have that particular model but I have the vp62R SST/SUR and they are nice for my surrounds. My buddy is a dealer so I got them at his cost.

These rsl’s seem to get good reviews as well and are priced well.

I have been considering those RSLs too. I'm not a fan that the dual 4" drivers are at a fixed angle. Seems to me the Sonance has more flexibility with angling the drivers and the larger 8" driver should make for a great mid-bass addition to help pressurize the room should they become more active. Keep in mind though please that I haven't heard them so I'm just going off my opinion on how well they would integrate.

...and I really love the look of the cabinets in your picture, the doors to the hutch or whatever they are. Can't really make them out completely but anything with nice wood like that is a winner in my book!

Thanks. I had it custom made for my Ascend speakers. Pretty much the only way my wife would let me put a nice setup in our main living room. Lol

As far as the Sonance, they do allow you flexibility on where they aim. I’m very happy with them.

I have the Mag6R for $150 it's a great deal. So for $299 the Mag8R is pretty good. They do have the option for a back cover in case you have blown in insulation. http://imgur.com/a/eC2pH8e
After some time, I wish I got the RSL... I'll upgrade later on.

Not everything on sale is a great deal.

At $300 a piece, I’d still take Revel C383’s.

Leave it at 8 ohms and call it a day :)

True about a sale. $300 a piece is outside the price range I would consider. The Sonance are $300/pair.

Ah I see.

Well your options become more limited at $150 a piece. Perhaps they do make more sense at that price point.

Apologies for not specifying the budget.

The Mag6r's get stellar reviews as do the 8r's. Those RSL's also get stellar reviews but I just can't fathom that dual 4" drivers can compete with a quality 8" driver, particularly with a strong brand such as Sonance.

Any reason why your not a fan of the Sonance? I know your an Ascend fan and Dave actually recommended Sonance VP60 series over on his forum as a good match with their speakers. His recommendation is what edged me to go with what Sonance. Well that and my buddy is a dealer so I got a nice pkg deal with some Dynaboxes too.

To the OP - The surrounds/Atmos shouldn’t have anything too heavy routes to them and assuming you will be using at least an 80hz cross, I wouldn’t be worried about the 4.5” woofs in the rsl. Brent Butterworth and Audioholics has pretty thorough reviews on the RSL. They seem like winners and priced well.

I’ve never heard that recommendation by Dave before.

Sonance isn’t exactly a cheap brand and at the normal price of $400/piece there are many other brands that would match and outperform them, IE Revel.

Revel targets flat listening window response, similar to Ascend. I have not seen measurements for the Sonance, but generally they aren’t a top choice for neutrality.

Are the Magnolia models for stereo sound or true home theater surround sound? Looking at the specification chart vs. Sonance SST/SUR speakers I don't see a huge difference (other than price).

I'm not sure but I think that they are for full stereo. Atmos recommends full range heights so these I believe would work for either application.
