Canton Vs Canton

Hello,

I've got a choice to make on which Canton speaker to buy for a 2ch setup. I've got a Marantz PM7000N receiver going in a 15 x 20 room. I can pick up a pair of Canton Chrono 586 DC for $1,000, or the Vento 876.2 for $1,300. Are the Vento's worth the extra $300 in a room of this size, or in general?

Thanks in advance for the advise.

Cheers,

Eric

To me the placement of the tweeter on the Chrono would be too low for it to be ear height while seated for many people.

39.4 inch tall tower with what looks like 1 inch before the 6 inch midwoofer and then another 2 inches to the center of the tweeter yields about a 30-31" tweeter height.

The Vento's ceramic tweeter looks to be centered at about the 34-35" mark which would work better for most.

The Vento is a higher level speaker -- and the ceramic tweeter gets a lot of praise

Between those two....the Vento’s.

If it’s not too late, consider the Vento 836.2 or Reference 9.2 DC bookshelf speakers.

That's easy, CANTON!
I've always liked their stuff, always sounded nice at shows which is not true for every brand.
Tough call. I prefer the 2 woofers, no substitute for cone area. But the tweeter height concern is valid. Is Vento 886 that much more? (check that tweeter height versus your seating)
Speakers last SO long, it is worth waiting and saving up if necessary.

I am concerned about the base response of the Vento's. I don't plan on adding a sub, so it's definitely an issue.

Why are you not planning on a sub?

I have small children and don't want to blow them out. Most of my "me time" listening will be later in the evening.

Any opinion of Focal's Aria 926?

I have a small sealed subwoofer that I place facing into our couch , (so the dog doesn't destroy the driver). It's placed about 2 inches from the side of the couch.

I am partial to Revel. For a little more than the Focal Aria 926, I would get the Revel F208.

I think the Vento 896 DC would be a better option.

If your not in a hurry and are shopping from A4L, I’d hold off and wait for the prices to drop. They periodically do...and most of Cantons have been listed for less than their current prices.

Another option to consider are the recertified Kef speakers. I recall members stating that Kef does a good job with recertification.

If you are open to other options, I would look at the Chane A5.5. They will offer some impressive low end and can stand on their own without a sub for music. Should be right at $1000 shipped for the pair: https://www.chanemusiccinema.com/ind...product_id=242

5.1: Samsung PN60F5300 | Sony BDP-S1700 | Denon AVR-1713 | EMP E55Ti | EMP E56Ci | EMP E5Bi | Outlaw Ultra-X12

2.0: Oppo DV-980H | Apple Airport Express | Schiit SYS | Topping D30 | Parasound HCA-1500a | Chane A1.4

The Vento 896 DC is exactly what I ended up with. A little more than I wanted to spend, but they sound great and I won't be buying another pair of speakers for at least 10 years!

If you bought them in the States were you able to audition first?

Canton makes first rate speakers, no question.

Enjoy.
