Home Theater 5.1

Hello,
I am planning buy 5.1 speakers.

to start with for budget : 800 or below
Receiver - Denon 1300x $400 is it a good one?
center - Center - BIC America FH6-LCR Dual 6.5-Inch
do i need to buy subs, surround, front and back from the same brand for better performance?

would appreciate if you could give me some recommendations for a 5.1 home theater?

Thanks,
Venu

If new that is a good price for the very nice Denon.

If you like the BIC center, I'd get BIC front left/right and then less expensive for surrounds.

Subwoofer brand does not need to match but with that sort of budget BIC is a decent choice.

As you like the FH6 LCR get two more for left and right.

Here in the states they are $119 each at Parts Express.

I'd get these at $126/pair for the rear:

https://www.parts-express.com/bic-ve...-pair--303-402

And I'd get this subwoofer.

https://rslspeakers.com/products/rsl-speedwoofer-10s/

If you are 100% happy with that BIC center, I'd get two pairs of Polk S15 for your front L/R and surrounds, $340 shipped all in:
https://www.amazon.com/Polk-Signatur...dp/B01LVWWZS0/

And then get a decent subwoofer like this:
https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=24456

I used to have the FH6-LCR and used it with a bunch of different mismatched L/R speakers, no problems---it provides excellent voice clarity, but being a sealed cabinet it rolls off very high, like 80-90Hz (BIC's specs claiming 40Hz extension are a joke) so sometimes male voices didn't sound very "male" but nevertheless were easy to understand which is the #1 basic requirement of any center speaker.

God, no. That bundle sticks you with 5 speakers that only have puny 4" woofers. The RSL 10s is a decent little sub for $400, though for an extra $100 the Monolith sub kills it.

For $500 you would do much better with 2 pairs of Emotiva B1 ($229/pr) and C1 center ($250 but with the 30% off first order discount you'd get it for just $112).

Or if you want 5 identical speakers, 5 x NHT C1s for $128 each from Amazon...those have 5.25" woofers and attractive compact sealed cabinets.

PS. I'd try to spend less on the receiver since it makes diddly difference. Instead of the Monolith sub you could move up to the Hsu VTF-2 or Rythmik LV12-F sub, both around $600 shipped. For instance, the Yamaha RV-683 from Amazon for $355.

I would love to do this! I have a couple of questions-
I can switch to Yamaha RX-V683BL 7.2-Channel MusicCast AV Receiver and buy the below Emotiva stuff
1. where can i get 30 percent discount for C1 center?
2. RSL 10s - is not in stock - any alternative with in the same price around 350 to 400 USD- for Yamaha RX-V683BL

Thanks,
Venu

Call or email Emotiva directly to ask about their "Emobucks" program. Hopefully it's still on offer.

I would spend an extra $100 and get the Monolith 10" THX sub, either directly Monoprice or through Amazon.

Even better would be an extra $200 for the Hsu VTF-2 or Rythmik LV-12F.

Seems like its ended now -Unfortunately, the Emobucks program has ended, so we are unable to offer the promotion at this point.

Bummer.

Even at $229/pr for the B1s and $250 for the C1, that's the best bang for your buck around. If budget requires, I'd just hold off on the rear surrounds and start with a high quality 3.1 setup right now if I were you.

Yep, only way to beat that would be to wait for the next Infinity speaker sale at infinityspeakers.com --- one just ended about a month ago, there are usually 2-3 per year.

Cables: use generic Mediabridge, Monoprice, Cables2Go, etc. from Amazon (Amazon Basics cables are ok too).

Definitely 5.1.2 over 7.1 without a doubt.

HOWEVER, if you have a medium or larger sized room, especially one that opens up to adjacent rooms, you'd be best off adding a second subwoofer which would give you a 5.2 system.

What are your room dimensions? And is it totally enclosed, or is this an open plan house?

Yes, not recommended to mix model numbers let alone brands.

But you might find one to be plenty so I'd wait.

The sub(s) will interact with ALL contiguous space, not just your listening area.

If you already ordered the Mono sub then yes, I'd add a second one.

If you have not ordered any sub, you could spend the extra $300 you've found on a single huge sub if you don't have space for two, like the Hsu VTF-15H (currently on sale) or VTF-3.

ordered from amazon and arriving tomorrow.
In that case can i make it 5.1.2 for now and add one more sub next year? does that make sense?

If i am doing 5.1.2 do i need to buy the Emotiva atoms also ? are there any other cheaper options?

Thanks,

Sure, a single Mono sub will tie you over just fine.

If you want to save some money for Atmos, you could try these Daytons, they have a similar AMT tweeter:

~ Are you a "geek hobbyist" obsessed with squeezing out that last 5-10% improvement? The economy will thank you...especially the Chinese one. Or are you more of a get-set-and-forget "casual user" who simply wants to increase your enjoyment of movies, TV and gaming? Relax, HT isn't rocket science, nor does it have to cost an arm and a leg---especially if you ignore the aforementioned vocal minority. And remember to smile...it's just a silly hobby, after all. :)

If you want to save some money for Atmos, you could try these Daytons, they have a similar AMT tweeter:

If add 2 of them as rear speakers will it become 5.1.2 or 7.1 ?

If you mount them on or near your ceilings, it'd be 5.1.2

by mistake I ordered 2 which means 4 AMT tweeter speakers.
can I make it now 5.1.4? I will mount them on ceiling 2 front and 2 back.

if that doesn't make sense I will cancel the order or change the order to 1 pair

Yes. 5.1.4 is better than 5.1.2 - if you're going to do atmos/height speakers, do the .4 instead of the .2

Happy accident
