Just A/B tested the Prestige 95F and Triton 1 and to my ear it is no contest. I am going with the Paradigms. I found the Tritons boomy in the bottom end and could not get the sound right regardless of where we set the controls on the speaker. I believe it may also have a lot to do with placement in your room. The 95's are a little more forward in the mids and highs but are crystal clear and the base extension sounded excellent. IMO.
Just ordered everything I need for a new Atmos setup.

Equipment in my set up includes:

Bryston 4B SST2
Anthem AVM 60
Anthem MCA 525
Anthem PVA 4
Cambridge Audio CXU

Paradigm 95F. 55C, 25s,15B, and 4 in ceilings on order.

Just hooked up my new sub 15. When I am done and turned all equipment off. The "P" on the sub is still lit at the front. There is a barely audible "power sound"
Almost like a hum. Not a ground loop as I have heard that before.

Is this normal for paradigm subs. Almost sounds likee a transformer running but very very low sound?

Anything to be concerned about???

Thanks.

95F's in Da House!!!

Okay, so I went in ready to pickup blems/B-Stock 85F's and walked away with blems/B-Stock 95F's. These things are spanking brand new. Packaging is first rate with all the accessories, cloth that covers the speakers, gloves, double boxed, etc, etc. And the finish absolutely gorgeous and I cannot find a single issue - maybe the shade is a tad darker than my A-Stock 45C but they all look SEXY either way. No issues...knock on wood....all hooked up and ARC calibrate on my AVM60 with two Sub 15's rocking down the house. I was so worried about taking these bad boys home but could not be happier having unboxed them and seeing them - first rate product even if they are tagged as Blems - they were manufactured Sep 2016 if that means anything. And they smell new which I'm sure they are. So happy, thanks ALL. Will let you know how it goes.

I bought a set of B stock Esprit Monitors back in the early 90's and I could never spot the blemish either.
This is a good way to save money.

NICE! Being pleasantly surprised is always a good thing. And yes, isn't that a nice smell? Mine are pushing a year now, and they still have some of that bleeding off....

Subs

Did the Prestige 2000SW replace the SUB15? Anybody have a 2000SW and had a SUB15 or has just compared the two? What other subs might be better or in competition with these?

Long time lurker, very rarely post. I'm currently a Paradigm owner and looking to what my best upgrade path may be. My current setup is Monitor 7 v6, cc290 v6 for fronts and Atoms v5 for rears. I run a SVS PB2000 and Paradigm PS1000 v3 for sub woofers. My room is quite small (14.4' x 13.4' x 9'). In the next 3-5 years I'm looking at either moving to a new home that would either be built to better specs for my home theater room or have one at a better size.

What I'm think is possibly jumping to the Prestige line and get 4x 15B and a 45C for now which I could then translate into a 7.2.4 setup eventually in the new home as the surrounds and pick up floor standings then (possible a new matching center as well)

The other option is to stay in the monitor line and go with the 11's but I fear my room is too small and what I gain in them is negated by room and is actually better off with higher end bookshelves. (I would also upgrade my rears to probably the mini monitors)

Another option I was thinking was just updating my front stage to 75F and 45C for now as these would be the options I would have in my budget.

I appreciate anybody who reads my whole wall of text!

If it was me? I'd take advantage of the current trade-in offer Paradigm has going if you're not aware of it. (20% savings). Instead of shooting for the 5 speakers, you could go for the front sound stage with the 2 x 75F and 45C, and continue to use your Atoms as rears if your budget is tight. If you could squeeze it out, I'd spend the extra $$$ and grab a 55C if you have the space for it.

If you can you owe it to yourself to also audition the 85F. I think they offer a
less edgy sound than the 75F.

Appreciate the feedback, I think I might just wait until my budget allows me to do it right as I think just going with the 75F for the sake of getting into the Prestige line is a compromise on my part. I see this as an investment of around 10 years or more as that's what I've had my Monitor 7's for almost and I still love them. Only recently stopped renting our basement as an apartment so I can finally enjoy them at loud volumes whenever I want

Absolutely no harm in waiting until your budget let's you do what you really want to do. If you *think* the 75F is just a compromise to get into the Prestige line, then it IS a compromise. Follow your instinct.

I just demo'd a bunch of bookshelf speakers up to the 2k price point and I was blown away by the prestige 15bs. The 15bs and the revel performa3 m106s were my top 2 contenders; both sound pretty amazing. But the trade in promotion might have sealed the deal on the 15bs. I think it I'm going pick up a set along with a 45c as a start to nice low key HT setup.

Looking for some input, my CC150 has a blown speaker, so I'm looking for a new center channel to go with my Monitor 7's. I'm looking for something with the same series drivers in it this time around, what would people recommend? I'm thinking a CC350 could be a good match.

Smile looking to clean house, so wife is "Happy"

I HAVE A BRAND NEW SET OF CC290'S WITH ALL ORIGINAL BOXES,PACKING materials MINT, MINT,MINT... FROM A 2ND Home theatre I never built, due to a move to Colorado.....

In fact I have the following mint sets of the "Monitor series" all with original packing etc.

= 1pr CC290-BLACK(V-5),
= 1pr Titan Monitors-BlACK(V-5)
= 1pr MINI MONITORS-BLACK(V-5),
= 2PR ATOM MONITOR-WHITE(V-3)

I AM NOT A DEALER today....(I WAS one of the 3 OWNERS of (AND NOW RETIRED) SALON ON Long Island N.Y..[AUDIO VISIONS]....closed after 25yrs.. A partner passed on, lost 2 employees due to health issues and,..... I was ALSO A full time Senior Executive with a Major NY Corp. The Salon was a "hobby-turned business venture" for me with two partners/former audio salon managers.

Customers from all over the New York "tri-state area..... We only carried top flight Brands:

Audio Research, Denon, Marantz, Thiel, Paradigm, Oracle, Sota Star-sapphire, Conrad-Johnson, Kimber, Audioquest, VPI, Grado, Vandersteen, Ortofon Bryston, Sumiko, Rotel, Denon, Magnum Dynalab and others which came and left....

Back to the speaker pix, I could personally send you the pictures of all of them TODAY!....I have been a member of this forum for years. I believe have a good reputation and garnered great relationships..... Ultimately my spouse says "NO MORE AUDIO "stuff"....... Thus it is slowly drifting into the hands of appreciative folks who are "price prudent"....as I was as a poor college student those many years ago who loved music. ago.....

Let me know asap

The cc-290 is a sleeper if you don't have enough power to drive it.... It is a 4 speaker design, with 2 @ 8" woofers, a 6"mid, tweeter... capable of handling "Mega watts". It weighs in at nearly 40 lbs. (I have used my Bryston 7b sst's to keep the voice coils lubed and magnetized, when I was considering another HT/ listening room.. But the wife killed that idea.. So now I have a 17ft x 37ft basement room /on a concrete slab with 8ft ceilings of which the concrete slab walls go up 4ft !!!!.... no flexing going on down there....

My main system is Theil 3.7s, (s) Bryston 7Bsst^, VPI TNT, [email protected] subs.
[email protected], Sansui Tx-1 & 919, OPPO digital, and assorted this & that..

So on & so forth...

My receiver is a Pioneer Elite SC55 @ 140wx9, so power shouldn't be an issue. I've got a line on a CC270, hoping to go take a look at it later today!

I'm not sure what you mean by "Mega watts." The CC-290 has a maximum input power of 120 watts and an efficiency of 94db. A receiver will drive this easily without any issue.

Duly noted... 120watt's RMS into 2 6" woofers will be plenty loud before "breakup"in a "normal" sized room w/8ft ceiling.... Well..... so much for "shooting from the hip" or should that be "LIP"

I believe it may also have a lot to do with placement in your room. The 95's are a little more forward in the mids and highs but are crystal clear and the base extension sounded excellent. IMO.
Just ordered everything I need for a new Atmos setup.

Equipment in my set up includes:

Anthem PVA 4
Cambridge Audio CXU

I would like to know how you really like the 95's. I'm going to choose between the 95's and 55c against my def techs 8060st and 8060hd. I'm leaning toward the paradigms as I've always wanted to own a set of paradigms

. . .
I've got a line on a CC270, hoping to go take a look at it later today!
If you haven't picked up the CC-270, IMO don't. Stick with a CC-350 or a CC-370 v1/2. Although it's not from the Monitor series, the Studio CC/v2 pairs surprisingly well with the Monitor speakers (I had one paired with my M7v4s for a while) and it sounds really good.

Does anyone here have vintage (20-25 year old) Paradigm Phantom, Titan, or Atom bookshelf speakers? These were Paradigm's entry-level speakers from around 1990. I have some I bought around 1992 to use with Denon 2 channel receivers (which still work). The speakers sold for about &80 to $150 each new.

The speakers don't sound as good as new, although they are still good enough for music and HT if the listener isn't too critical. I would describe the sound as being like a cheap speaker, there is bass, midrange, and treble but something is not quite right. I'm wondering if there is something easy I can do to restore the sound to its original glory. I've opened up a couple of these speakers and nothing is obviously damaged. The woofer cones look OK, they have plastic foam surrounds which look OK, apparently the foam can degrade and break on old speakers.

I'm considering replacing the capacitors in the crossover as I've read that cheap capacitors can degrade and the capacitance changes which will change the crossover properties. Also there is the possibility of replacing the entire crossover as generic versions can be bought for low prices like $30.

BTW for anyone who has these speakers and wants to check the innards, after the screws are removed the back panel is usually stuck from a tight fit with the speaker cabinet walls. The way to remove the back panel is to screw a bigger wood screw a small distance (1/8" to 1/4") into one of the panel screw holes and use that to pull on the panel (it's about 3/8" thick particle board). Use pliers to pull on the screw to start removing the panel. A steady force may not work so it might help to tap the pliers outwards with a small hammer or a wrench.

Theater 1 (living room): 65" TV Sony XBR65X900F, Denon AVR-S720W receiver, speakers for 5.1: 6 Kef Q100 (dual center), Klipsch SW-110B 10" subwoofer.
Theater 2 (family room): 55" TV Sony XBR55X700D, Klipsch Promedia 2.1 speaker system.
Video sources: Telus 1080i PVR, Apple TV 3 (Netflix, YT), Sony 1080P BR player
