I really wanted the 707s/706/702s combo in midnight. The 703s could be good too, altho I think thr 704 has also disappeared.

Looking to setup a relatively small HT (19.5 x 11.5). Was able to buy Polk 707's, 703's, and 704c during Adorama sale this summer. Already have a Klipsch 115SW sub. Read in other posts that the 707's are hungry. Looking at Outlaw's deal on three Monoblock 2200's ($777).

Seeking some advice on a proper setup with Atmos.

1) Would 7.1.4 be too much for this space?
2) Should I use two sets of 702's for side and rear surrounds? Redeploy the 703's to another room?
3) Planning to use two sets of RC80i's for Atmos
4) Any Receiver Reco's?

Thx.

1) No! I have a 7.1.4 set up in a smaller room.

2) 703's as surround and surround back speakers would work fine. However, 702's are made for that purpose. I would go with 702's if budget allows. (It's easy to spend your money)

3. I just went Atmos a few months ago. I considered the Polk RC80i's, but after some research came across RSL C34E's for in-ceiling Atmos speakers. They are well regarded by many on AVS, with many using them in systems with much more expensive speakers than LSIM's. They are twice as much as the RC80i's and larger, but are awesome speakers for $125 each. (RSL also has a $25 Black Friday coupon code good thru 12/31.)

https://rslspeakers.com/c34e-ceiling-speaker/

4) If you want to go 7.1.4, you will need an AVR that can do 11 channels and has pre-outs. I have two AVR's that can process 11 channels, but can only power 9 speakers. These AVR's need a separate amp to drive at least 2 of the 11 speakers.

The two AVR's I have are the newly released 2019 Denon X3600H and the 2018 Marantz SR6013. Someone above mentioned the Denon X8500H, I think that may be able to power 11 channels w/o a separate amp. Both have been great for me so far. I think they are about the same price now.

Whether the 707's 'need' an amp is always a fun debate. If you don't need the extra amp to power 2 of the 11 speakers, then you can always go w/o one first to see how it sounds and add an amp later.

Living Room: Marantz 6013, XPA-5, 7.1.4 Polk RTiA9, CSiA6, FXiA4, OWM3, RSL C34E, SVS PC12+, 4 Shakers, Epson 5050, VApex 92”, Sony 65X900F, Sony X800, Xbox360, FireStick 4K, Roku Ultra, Odroid-N2. Bedroom: Denon 3600, 5.1.4 Polk: LSiM 703, LSiM 704, RTiA1, OWM3, SVS SB12-NSD x 2, LG OLED65B8, Xbox 360, Roku Ultra, Shield, FireStick 4K. Home Office: Onkyo 707, Polk: RTiA3, CSiA4, Monitor 70's, Yamaha SW315 x 2, Turntable, Triple Monitors.

Wondering if anyone else has pulled the trigger on some of the new legends? I’m super excited to be picking up some 600s today! I’ll post some side by side impressions vs my 705s in a few days. Cheers!

I'm super interested in the Legends series as well. Those L600 and L800s look pretty darn nice. 4 ohms isn't what I'd like to see as they are harder to drive, but they look good in the specs. Anxious to see how they perform with Polk's notorious brightness.

Mr. Dave, long time, good to see you!!!

The Polk audio forum has a member that's already purchased the L800's and they have a "pass around patty" program with the L200's. Members are demo'ing them in home for a couple of weeks then forwarding them onto the next contestant. So far the jury is thumbs up.

During the Adorama craze, I managed a pair of 707's, 702's to go with the already 706 I had and there is no brightness with these baby's.

Pretty laid back but very detailed, with the mains producing a very impressive sound stage. And the bass with the 707's......not sure who gets the title belt between the 707's and the A9's for LFE, both series are very impressive!

I've currently moved my A9's to rear surround and I have to tell you, I really respect the subtlety of the 702's vs the FXiA6's I had up before.

My processor lets me by-pass MultEQ-XT32 completely for 2ch (or any other mode of my choosing) and the 707's on their own without any processing or filtering are pretty bad a$$ and I'll be honest with you, I do miss the forwardness of my A9's in 2ch mode so I may do a second set up with my other A9's..... ….who knows.....

Set up:
Marantz AV8802A w/Pangea Premium XLR's-Source: Oppo 103-CD Player: Emotiva ERC 3 w/Pangea Premium XLR's
Display: Samsung QLED 65F-Amplification: Emotiva XPA-DR3, XPA-2 x 2
Mains: PolkAudio LSiM707, C 706, SS 702, RS RTiA9

Was wondering if anyone has installed Polk 70RT in-ceiling speakers in a ceiling with blown insulation, and what your solution was if any. Also if you used some sort of backer box what type and did it effect the sound.

I installed RSL C34e in ceiling which are similar to the Polks. If you're asking for a solution to avoid all the insulation making a mess, I don't have one unfortunately. I did hold a garbage bag under the ceiling while cutting and installing to keep the mess to a minimum.

Regarding a backer box, I used these instead (upon recommendation from RSL). They work great and they are cheap.

Thanks for the suggestion but they seem awkwardly sized. They are not deep enough for the Polk 70RT speaker and twice the size in circumference.

Well I went to try to replace the resistors in my PSW 125. Per this article.

https://mrfxr.com/polk-subwoofer/

This guy has some skills to remove that circuit board. I don’t think I can’t do it and honestly I’m done with Polk subs. I’m going to put my second PSW 125 in my sons game room. That one had the amp board replaced by Polk under warranty and they were not happy to do it for free.

But... it would have been under warranty, so I'm not sure what they wouldn't be happy with? Seems odd for a company to complain about replacing something while it's still under warranty.

Hey, thanks for posting the link for the speaker covers. I installed RSL C34e's a few months ago and was looking for something reasonably priced to cover them in my attic. They make great Atmos speakers.

I found them a little cheaper on parts express.
