Does anyone on the forum own a pair of Veritas 6.3 speakers?

There doesn't seem to be much on the internet about them.

How do they compare to the RC-70s?

What are you running them with? 😁

I’m hoping to find a set for my home office.

Unfortunately I've never heard any other Energy speakers. This purchase was on a whim as I was cruising AVS at the time and got wind of the "fire sale" retailers were having to get rid of their stock and I found a pair locally, in addition to a pair of surrounds and a center channel.

The 6.3's actually sit in my home office, powered by a McIntosh 2205 amp. They sound spectacular. My only gripe is the dust cover for the tweeter likes to self destruct and it's almost impossible to find a direct replacement. If I remember correctly, somewhere higher up in this thread it was mentioned that a refurbishment service was being offered. I could be wrong, it was a while ago. I'll probably follow up on that shortly as I'll be getting ready to sell our house and downsizing...so I may have to sell the 6.3's. We'll see.

EDIT: I found the info. Speaker rebuilding for $60. You send the tweeters in and they refurb and send back.

The V-6.3 were developed after the Klipsch acquisition and as such differ in sound vs the RC-70, with a slightly higher sensitivity and a more pronounced treble (brighter).

Both of these speakers have numerous reviews and measurements, for example here are thorough measurements of the RC-70 from the NRC (Canadian research center where Floyd Toole developed much of his theory) and here are Audioholics measurements of the V-6.3. According to those measurements the V-6.3 is about 2.5dB more sensitive (so the RC-70 would take almost 2x the power to reach the same level).

The RC-70, typical of the RC line, has a relatively flat on axis response with a slight boost in the mid/upper bass (~100-300Hz) which gives it a warmer tone. The V-6.3 has more rise in the upper end, so it will sound brighter. The subjective reviews of these speakers support that, with the RC series being widely known for smooth, non-fatiguing treble whereas the V-6.3 has more "sparkle" in the highs (typical of Klipsch) and may thus be perceived as more "revealing" and perhaps sound a bit harsh with some material. This could be probably be mitigated by using less toe-in angle so you aren't listening directly on axis.

Both are excellent speakers.

Has anyone used both a Denon AND a Marantz with their RC-70s (or any RC line speaker)?

Thoughts on if the "musical" Marantz sound better or different....?

I have RC 50s that I have run off a marantz 6006 and denon 4500. I did not perceive any differences in baseline sound quality on direct listening mode. I felt the more advances audessy system xt32 on the 4500 was better than the xt on the marantz.

I know the RC-R's are a unicorn nowadays (I did sell an almost new pair I had in storage to a forum member here last year!).

So, while perusing multiple states CL listings (I am looking for 3 sets of RC-70's or 50's or Veritas 6.3's for my new house), I found this ad if anyone is looking for parts for theirs. $35 for the pair!!!!

It's out near Reno, NV but I figure since they are so rare that someone on this forum might benefit from this listing!

If they are indeed the i version and 100% brand new, someone (not me) might be able to just them for close to $1000. Used black 2.2i speakers are usually in the $500-$700 range.

You got some weird guys on Craigslist. There's this one other dude on San Diego Craigslist who has been trying to sell certain speakers for over a decade and hasn't moved on price. I recognize the ads and they always include the "Firm!" on the price (which is often unreasonable) and I wonder WTF this dude is doing. If you search this thread for some old posts by me you'll probably find examples of me making fun of him in the late 2000's

Example: https://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/...968645013.html

These speakers have been listed, with no price change, for at least 12 years!

Here is his reply:

Hi 355F1, I apologize for the delayed response. Been busy putting out small fires this week. The $875 offer was valid but this person unfortunately had health issues regarding his wife and understandably couldn't get together at this time.

Although I'm in no hurry to sell them, what would like to offer? If they fail for some reason other than damage from amp clipping, I'll refund your money. To avoid driving here ( although its much cooler , you mentioned paying my ebay/paypal fees for delivery. I'm a man of my word and will ship them with my fedex account rate. Sometimes its cheaper than ebay but not always. Rich

Wouldn't you think that a NIB pair or amazing speakers would sell better on eBay????? You can ship these easily without much cost or risk of damage!

Has he really owned these things for 20 years???? He says he used to own a hi-fi shop--I think Carlsbad Audio/Video.

Just strange!!!

I'll be trying to wall mount RC-10s soon. They use a 1/4"-20 threaded hole in the back, but, at 14 lbs, these are the heaviest bookshelf I had to deal with yet.

Any recommendation as for the bracket? I've had little luck in the past, trying various models including Omnimounts, but they were all either hard to work with (little space to work behind a large bookshelf with the Omnimount for example, especially tightening that hex nut), or they could not hold the speaker up without drooping, or would allow very little down-angle.

Maybe I should just build a small shelf...

So I have been doing some thinking about my setup (see above posts up the page a few spots).

For my RC-70 and LCR front I am re-considering the Outlaw Audio 5000 5ch amp and thinking about doing 3 Outlaw Audio 2200 200ch Monoblocks for the front 3 and letting the Denon receiver (4500, most likely) handle the RC-10 surrounds that are going up on the side walls.

Any thoughts?

WHat is everyone using on those RC-70's?
I'm not familiar with outlaw amps, but I don't hear much difference between my Denon 4311 receiver and my Parasound 2205AT 5 channel amp powering my RCs. A little more bass, but that's about it. I doubt monoblocks would bring anything more to the table either, but can't say for sure.
Ended up buying a rarely used Parasound A51 (and A21!) from a forum member last month.

Looking forward to getting this setup rockin’ once my house is built! Scheduled for January!

^^^About $333 per speaker. Not bad for New In Box. I paid $299 each for my RC-70's in 2011-12 when Fry's put them on sale.

That issue has been covered plenty over the years on this thread... use the search function and see what you find... but I believe several have used simple rubbing alcohol and a microfiber cloth and had good luck...

Anyone using an RC-70 as a center channel?

I just picked up a Parasound A51 (250x5) and am thinking of using five RC-70's in my 5.2.4 setup in my new house.

I currently have an RC-LCR for center with RC-70s for L/R.

(House won't be done til January so I can't A/B them yet.)

I am picking up 3 pair of RC-70s this week and I now have the opportunity to use 1 of the as a center channel.

Thoughts....???

If you can place the speaker vertically, then three identical speakers across the front is the perfect setup.

I haven’t chosen av furniture yet for my new house being built so yes...I COULD do that.

I’m just wondering if it will be a night and day difference over using an LCR.

😎It's just life, dude. We are all gonna die sometime--Might as well try and have a kickass time while we're still here.😜

Yes, IMO, having three identical vertical speakers for LCR is a very noticeable difference. Absolutely seamless panning across the front soundstage.

The issue is that it's often impractical because the TV would be blocked by the speaker, so it's generally only done with projection and acoustically transparent screens.
