Beautiful!

I really like the Helicon MK2 series: one of the most beautiful speakers ever made. And I like the sound of the 300mk2. I tried them at home. I truly miss my Helicon 800mk2 speakers.

Have you ever moved the speakers a little further away from the wall?

Thanks!!.

The room is acoustically treated. The red back panel is filled with glass wool with a thickness of 5 inches and the speakers are away from the wall by approximately 10 inches.

Very nice. Those treatments really make the sound!

Am posting this in both the GoldenEar and Dali threads.

I currently have a 5.1 home theater set up with the equipment listed below. Would like to add two rear surround speakers to expand to 7.1. Due to room layout I need to use wall mount speakers with minimum depth, cannot use In-Walls.

I am considering GoldenEar Technology SuperSat 3’s. Any thoughts on whether these will work adequately with the Dali speakers and Velodyne sub? If these cannot keep up, my second choice would be SuperSat 50’s.

The room is 13’ wide, 20’ long, with an 8’ 10” high ceiling. There is a partially open staircase rising along the back wall. Front speakers (and TV) are across the 13’ wide front wall and approximately 2.5’ out from the wall. Primary listening position is 9’ back from the front speakers. Side Surrounds are directly to the sides. Rear surrounds will be on the rear wall approximately 8.5’ behind the primary listening position, spaced 5’ apart. Their sound will be partially going through the balustrades (1” diameter spaced 3.5” apart) and hand rail on the stairway.

I occasionally like to listen at louder volume levels, especially with concerts, but nothing like ear splitting or distorted levels.

System is:
• Integra Research RDC-7.1 PrePro
• Sherbourn 7/2100A power amp
• Samsung HLS7178 DLP TV
• Dali Helicon 400 Mk I Front Left and Front Right
• Dali Helicon C200 Mk I Center
• Dali Ikon Mk I On-Wall Side Surrounds
• Velodyne DD-12 Sub
• Sony S6700 BluRay
• DirecTV High-Def STB

Thanks
Bruce

Why don't you just use another pair of the Dali Ikon Mk I On-Wall Side Surrounds for the rear speakers?

Thanks for the suggestion. That was actually my original idea when I had the house prewired for surround speakers during construction. But after we moved in and lived with the house for awhile, I realized they would protrude too far into the stairway which is a main artery of traffic flow in the house. There would be too much risk of people bumping into them going up and down the stairs and either tripping, or ripping the speakers off the wall.

I looked at the Opticon LCR. Its a uniform 5" deep where my Ikon On-Walls are 6.5" deep at their thickest point. But the SuperSat 3 / 50 are only 2.75" / 2.5" deep, are a good bit less expensive, and I'm assuming won't cause major issues with timbre match

Cheers
Bruce

Dali does have some low profile on-wall and several in-wall speakers in their current offerings.

As I mentioned, cannot use In-Walls.

I just took another look at the Dali web site for other On-Walls outside of the Opticon LCR. The Rubicon LCR is not as thin as the Opticon and is more expensive.

There are several Fazon models that can be wall mounted and the prices are reasonable. But they are not as thin as the GolderEar SuperSats, and when you use the Dali wall mounts the Fazons protrude out even further from the wall. Per the manufacturer's specs, the Fazons have a lower sensitivity and will not handle as much power as the SuperSats.

Dali used to offer a frame for certain In-Wall speakers so they could be wall mounted, but they were not available for the Ikon In-Walls. I did not find any frames on their current web site.

Thanks
Bruce

Where can I find a list of DALI retailers in the U.S.?

The dealer locator on DALI's website isn't very helpful.

I never understand why this brand gets little traction. I have a pair of Dali Rubicon 6's for my mains and a Dali Epicon Vokal center that is in my opinion the best center channel money can buy. I love these speakers and I feel lucky and spoiled to own them. Yet the Dali line simply gets little fan fare. It is too bad as I don't think they get marketed very well here in the US....

I agree. Makes me wonder what the reaction would be if auditioned alongside some of the more popular speakers talked about in these forums. I plan to keep adding to my Dali collection, likely with Epicons in my lounge when I finish the basement and add a 2ch setup.

Main 7.1 HT: Dali Zensor (7s, Vokal, and 1s), Emotiva E2s, HSU ULS-15 MK2, Emotiva BasX preamp/amps (MC-700, A-300, A-500)
Kid’s 5.1 HT: Dali Oberon (5s, Vokal), RSL C34Es, HSU VTF-2 MK5, Denon X2400H
7-Zone CCA/Spotify WHA: Paradigm (E-80Rs x6, P-80SM), Def Tech AW6500s, Polk MC-80, Emotiva BasX amps (A-700, A-500), FiiO D3 DACs

Quite late but I think Sound Organization is still the distribution partner.

I will be getting Q acoustics 3050i for a 3.0 set up and now researching a matching center. I have the concept centre on the way but I'm concerned about the 4inch drivers. So I've been looking at the Zensor Vokal. Anybody have any thoughts on if they would be a good match for the Q Acoustics?

I think both the Dali Concept Center and the Dali Zensor Vokal will be a good choice. Once you apply Bass Managment on your AVR these centers will surely give you a superb performance once it comes to dialog intelligibility. Usually most important is to place the center by tilting it to face seated ear height (up or down). Like any other speaker, they will deliver not only their highest SPL (sound pressure level), but also their widest frequency range when positioned on-axis with ears as described above. Go for it! You can't make a mistake with any Dali!

Whoops. Sorry, I had no idea that Dali made a similar named center speaker The center speaker I was referring to was the Q Acoustics Concept Centre. Thanks for the advice.

No problem. I think you'll be better off when following guidelines for center placement as described earlier. Have fun and enjoy your system after a complete and careful setup!

@Banks1 :

Fully agree with callas01! I also have a pair of Dali Concept 1s in my HT system used as surrounds and another pair for front R/L heights. They are excellent speakers and I'm sure they will do equally fine in your desktop setup. Enjoy!

Is the Zensor a step up from the DALI - Spektor series? I know they both get great reviews, just wondering if one is a little better than the other.I have a pair of WHARFEDALE - Diamond 220s that are really good for desktop because they are downported. But I am using them a surrounds in the family room.My wife likes to listen to t.v. in all chan.Stereo .So I was thinking that the Dali,s would either do well at the desktop or would match up better with my Revel f 36,s .I just cant afford to get the Revel m16s for surrounds right now, they are almost 3 times the price of the Dali,s.I just use 2.1 for music and don't ever use the system for h.t. except when the grandkids come.

Still nobody managed to listen the new OBERON speakers? 0 result with the search. This is positioned above Zensor and priced well (at least here in Europe) so it could be popular.

Anyone have an opinion of adding Dali Alteco C-1 to my existing 5.1 setup with a Marantz SR6013 AVR to gain Atmos? I would place on top of my front Opticon 5's floor standing R/L to gain the 3D height over head? Given Marantz now supports the IMAX solution any limitations with these Altecco on getting all the sound modes enabled that I lack now?

I’ve listened to the Oberon 5s in stereo and absolutely love them. The clarity exceeds my Zensors, but they are more neutral and balanced (Zensors tend to be a bit full and warm). Love the Zensor Vokal as a full center in my main setup. The Oberon Vokal is crystal clear, edging out the Zensor Vokal but carrying some of the same dynamics.

For a large room and primary home theatre setup, I might find the Oberon 5s a bit thin, whereas my Zensor 7s really round out the sound. After I setup the Oberon I thought I would hate my main setup based on the better clarity Oberons but the scale and soundstage in the Zensors still exceeds the 5s. I do have a huge bias on my subs...so it’s a bit unfair since my ULS is better calibrated and integrated, but I still feel a thinness in the 5s vs the Zensor 7s.

Hope this helps.

Main 7.1 HT: Dali Zensor (7s, Vokal, and 1s), Emotiva E2s, HSU ULS-15 MK2, Emotiva BasX preamp/amps (MC-700, A-300, A-500)
Kid’s 5.1 HT: Dali Oberon (5s, Vokal), RSL C34Es, HSU VTF-2 MK5, Denon X2400H

Since then I've read customer reviews and they are saying the same as you so that it's less warm than Dali in general and is a better series than Zensor.

The 5s are always thinner than the 7s across all Dali series, as they should be since they are smaller so it's a bit unfair to compare a 5 vs a 7

Overall then it's something worth to check out who are looking for a rather neutral speaker, thanks for your input. Somebody who have Zensor and Oberon at home is rare, only home user can give useful opinion.
