Anyone know how to find out your PSB speakers' manufacturing date (or at least year)?

I emailed PSB customer service and gave them my speakers' serial number, but never heard back.

Could someone verify the thread pitch for the rear mount on PSB Image B4 is 1/4" - 20?

Thanks

Anyone know when PSB’s new line launches? I’m wondering whether I should upgrade to X2T + C, or wait and see if they have a new line planned (maybe a more modern looking version of the Imagine series)

Good question. All I have read is that Paul Barton of PSB is working on a new line up of speakers, but no timelines on when they would be released.

I can't imagine the new line of speakers being any less sexy than the current imagine lineup...at least the dark cherry versions.

oh they dont look bad at all. my only gripe with them are the visible holes for the grill. Maybe magnetic grills for the new lineup

Indeed Imagine B.

My initial A/B comparison tells me the Buchardts are probably safe but that the PSBs are holding their own. Will do some more listening today. I am still fleshing out my surround speaker selection and I need a stereo pair elsewhere in the house so it's likely they'll find a place somewhere.

According to some old posts, the Imagine B is 4ohms, yet on PSB's website it states 4 ohm minimum, 8 ohm nominal. This the same impedance as my XBs. Are the B's 4 or 8ohms?

Check measurements from this article from Stereophile. https://www.stereophile.com/content/...r-measurements

I would still use a 4 ohm rated amp to drive Imagine B’s. I used to own a pair, and always used a 4 ohm rated receiver or amp.

The Imagine B could be driven with an amp not rated to 4 ohms, but in the lower midrange/upper bass the impedance drops under 4 ohms, and combined with a -49 degree phase angle at 115 Hz this can be tricky for a non-4 ohm rated amp to drive the speaker.

To get the best out of them I would stick to 4 ohm rated amplification.

This stuff is beyond my understanding but I just found out that my XBs dip to 4.3ohm, as measured by stereophile. I've been driving them with my Yamaha Rx-V383 and it sounds fine to me. Would i be okay mixing the B's (and C) with the XB's as surrounds?

Sorry about the technobabble. Bottom line Imagine B would benefit from 4 ohm rated amps, but they aren’t required.

I am a bit picky about these things, but I bet you would be fine with your receiver driving that setup. If you listen at very loud levels it might tax the amps in your Yamaha some. To get the best out of that set up I do recommend thinking about upgrading the amplification at some point, depending on listening levels.

I'd like to see if my experiences so far match up with others here. Do you think the Imagine series is a very neutrally voiced speaker?

I bought PSB because of their +/- 1dB rating in most of the lineups. I think they are so neutral that I can't tell most of the speakers apart except for bass content. I've got 5 different models in my home theater and they blend seamlessly (T-45, B15, S50, X1T and CS500).

My first PSB speakers were a pair of Imagine B’s. I always thought they sounded neutral to me in my home set up. IMO they are transparent to the point that good recordings sound really good and bad recordings sound, well, bad. Of course the low frequencies (below 60 Hz or so) are lacking in the B’s, but a decent sealed sub set up can fix that.

I have heard T3’s at a dealer a few years ago, and I was very impressed. Neutral, great sound staging, good imagining. With the T3’s I heard new details in the music I had never heard before from a CD I brought along for demoing.

Just my $0.02.

Yeah. I bought mine bc they were the least colored sounding speaker when I was demoing in store.

My Imagine Bs are the most neutral speaker I've owned and I've been enjoying them since Jan 2012 in a two channel setup. I never run them very hard (it's a living room in a smallish house, not a dedicated listening room) but they've not stressed any of the three power amps (two AVRs, one power amp) to which they've been attached (mid-fi amplification in all cases).

I've had the speaker grills blow right off my front height Image B15s while playing a sudden loud passage before (they are tilted down a bit being next to the ceiling).... I guess I was running them a bit hard.

If anyone is looking for Imagine series speakers, I just ordered for the 2nd time from Stephensons Electronics on Ebay, a Toronto-based PSB authorized dealer. Their prices are better than in the US thanks in part to the exchange rate. And they have a 100% feedback score.

Are the Imagine B's less treble-forward than the XB's? Measurements for the B (below) show a drop-off from about 11khz - 16khz, spikes back up by 18khz then drops as it approaches 20khz
