You can go with something else. I have an SVS PB2000 with Klipsch speakers and they blend incredibly well.

I have no doubts the SVS are superb but way out of my price range.

You can find SVS SB12-NSDs at blowout prices quite easily (they're the predecessors to the SB2000). I have a couple of them in my second system (2x RP-260F, 1x RP-440C, 2x RP-160M, 4x RP-140SA) and they're great.

I was so tempted to buy one for my secondary system as well.

Does it give you adequate tilting flexibility ??

I do have front projection, and I'm actually using the 13" VTI DFC with my RC-64II there.

I was mistaken in my previous post because I'm using a 19" VTI DFC with the RP-440C under my Vizio P75. It has fixed tilt which works for me because it points exactly where it needs to.

I have inherited a pair of khorns from I think the mid 1960's (my grandfathers). They have not been used in many many years. Is there an easy way to check on the woofer for deterioration? Any other things i should check on before using them?

I decided to spend a little time building out my system. Just ordered a 450C and a pair of 250F's to start out. The 250F's will go to side surround duty later being replaced by 260F's or 280F's, then 150's last for the rear surrounds.

Since I already have the HTIB I can take my time swapping out speakers and eventually the AVR.

Speakers have to be close to 20 years old. They still sound great but I have been looking around at newer Klipsch stuff.

What do you guys think would be in the same size/sound/price as of today if I wanted to start listening to some new Klipsch speakers?

Thanks.
Do yourself a favor, if you've not already upgraded the crossovers and diaphragms in both the KLF-20's and KLF-C7, you'll not do better IMHO, except for the Palladium line. The crossovers in the Legend Series speakers were definitely an after-thought, so upgrading the crossovers and mid & horn diaphragms will do justice to your Legend fronts and you won't have spent all that money on new speakers.

Very cool pic. I've long wondered what these look like under the grille. Those horns look like they match the r26 or r28 in size, which is the most surprising part to me.

How do you like the R-14S? I'm considering purchasing a pair to use a side surrounds to match with the R-26F, and R-25C, I'm currently running a pair of R-14M's and they sound great, but the sound is very localized. Right now I'm thinking about purchasing another R-26F to use as a center, and possibly the R-14S to have a fully matched set, possibly move the R-14M's to tops or height.

I think with the setup you have it will match perfectly. Go for it! i just have a simple setup R-14S sounds good for me and i like it matching with 4 of R-14M for my heights and rear surrounds. They are trying to cope with my RF-35 fronts but their doing a good job and i'm satisfied with it. Next project will be RC62ii for center.

Guys I'm having issues with my r112sw. Do I go straight to Klipsch or try Onecall that I got it from. I purchased it within the last two years. Same thing happened to my other 112 but that I purchased locally so I just took it back. It doesn't want to auto power on. One of the 112's fires up, the second fails to grab and go. When I flip auto to on it grabs and goes. my other one started this way and then just stopped. Klipsch or Onecall?

I'd say if it's still under warranty send it to whoever sold it to you. If they're an authorized Klipsch dealer then they can handle it for you.

Sorry for your loss.

The easy test for the drivers is to Ohm them out with a Ohm meter. That checks to make sure there is nothing shorted. More than likely, the woofers will be OK. Unless bugs have infested it. If the drivers ohm out to 8 Ohms, play the speakers and see how they sound. Nice and easy. If the woofer is toast, I think the door is on the bottoms.

Thank you. The Khorns have been in the den for decades having recently been placed in the dry finished basement (insect and rodent free). Cabinets are in good shape. I can easily check the drivers individually with an ohm meter. I just didn't know if the woofers had anything that would deteriorate (oxidizes) over time like foam or rubber.

to make a long story short we ended up with my grandparents house. We put our HT in the den, but by doing so had the move the Klipsch. The living room was full of our furniture and boxes at the time so the basement it was. We have now cleared out the living room and I could bring the horns back up. before i do that I want to make sure they are in working order

Those drivers last a long time. Usually it takes some abuse or rotten living conditions to get rotted. However, nothing lasts forever and they do fail. I would Ohm them out and hook them up. A wipe down with some lemon oil and you will be ready to go.

I'm sorry to hear about your Grandfather, he had good taste in speakers. Like Mongo said, there are access doors you can remove and look inside. If the wiring looks ok, everything seems to be connected, and the ohm test is ok, you might try to power them. Did you inherit any amps or electronics? I'm sure these require to be placed tightly in a corner, if they're away from the corner they won't sound as good, but you can test them while away from a corner. Good luck and good for you for keeping his sounds going, they are exceptional speakers.

If you wanted to post some pictures, we would love that.

Right now I'm thinking about purchasing another R-26F to use as a center, and possibly the R-14S to have a fully matched set, possibly move the R-14M's to tops or height.

Originally I was using the R-14m as sides then bought the R-14S as sides and used the R-14M as surround rear and I'm quite impressed with them. Much better feel then the R-14M as sides. It's also interesting how well these pair with the Reference II, swapped out my R-24F and R-25C to RF-82 II and RC-62 II and they work quite well!

Excellent, thank you for the input. Now I'm just going to wait for them to go on sale
