Likewise...and have a well-equipped home shop. No late model CNC, but a useful old Prototrak, 16x40 manual lathe, and 6x14 surface grinder. It can be a pleasant diversion from my current job (past 10 years) of selling tools to guys like you.

M6 tap drill?

The drill size for an M8x1.25 thread should be 6.75mm, shouldn't it?

Yes,but I was just going by him saying it slipped into the hole no problem, figured there must be some play there, and since M7 is not a commonly used size.

The Dave, yes I picked it up yesterday afternoon, but got all jacked up, so it stayed in the box until this afternoon.
I have to work tonight, so I wanted to thoroughly read the manual before throwing in the system. Figure I might as well bring it to work with me, try it with headphones first, while getting to know all the buttons/features. My dealer said he tried headphones with it, and something sounded off...and I have to agree with him. There is a lot of distortion in the bass when you turn it up loud, but it does sound fantastic if you keep the volume down. Not sure if it is a faulty unit or what, but the Hugo 2 I had on demo sounded better, and played much louder with no distortion, so I will try and figure out what is going on there. I would not be using it with headphones much anyway, if I insert it in my home setup. I will get around to hooking that up tomorrow, hopefully with better results...he never had any problems with it as a DAC, I will post more tomorrow, but I will post a few photos of it sitting on my toolbox with my I-pad, and Sennheiser momentums.I also came across a few old photos I will post...my white C1s,the old home theater room, and my dealers C1 platinums I demoed for a week when I first got the 272/250 DR.

A little update...I have the Chord Dave in my system now, playing from the Core,to Dave,to analog inputs on the 272,and it is absolutely stunning! The layers of detail coming from nowhere is incredible, there Is air and separation of instruments like I have never experienced before at my home.Everything I play just makes more sense, and it just draws you in to the music.THIS DAC is an end game for me,and I will have one some day...can’t wait to try it directly into my amp, using it as a DAC/PRE.You really are not aware of how much information is on a track, and how much better your speakers can sound, simply by upgrading what you feed them, but there is only one problem...it is damn expensive to get there.

With the Sopras?

That DAC, high end tube amp, and Sopras would probably be a combo to die for. Haha.

When comparing Dave as a dac + pre, to a 282 ( 2 highcap dr), into 250dr, we found the 282 the better pre. Dave sounded good, but a but sterile maybe as i remember, espacially when you used to the naim's sound..will be interested to see you're testresult and findings.

Also, i recommand not to demo Dave together with mscaler, before you have enough fundings for it on a short term .

Unfortunately I do not have a cable to connect to my 250 DR,so I will be using my Anthem MCA 50 for that test. With the Hugo 2,it was miles better than the same way i have the Dave connected right now...we shall see.I use a Din to XLR cable to connect the 250,which the Dave does not have(DIN).

Did you by chance compare with Schiit Yiggy (with Gen5 USB + Analog2 board)? I have a few friends who have owned both or doing 100+ hours comparing the two. Some have kept both as they both excel in different ways but the Dave is never the clear (and neither is Yiggy) but the latter costs about 20% of the former.

Current HiFi: Dynaudio Focus 260 | Schiit Modi2 Multibit (Black) | NAIM SuperNait 2
Cables: Chord Cobra VEE3 RCA>DIN | Tellurium Q Black 3M

Past HiFi: Dynaudio Excite X16 | Dynaudio Focus 160 | Harman Kardon HK3490 | NAIM XS2 (70w)

These are legit. Even out of the box I can tell they are a step above the S40. More linear all the way through. The tweeter is even more extended but also smoother. I don’t know how Dyn does it. Better bass, soundstage, Imaging, depth.

I cant wait until I have about 200 hours on them.

Kind of funny. I turned off the sub yesterday to listen to the 40s unassisted. To compare to C20s. Well I turned on the C20s and played the song Morning Sun by Melody Gardot. I honestly thought my sub was still on. Lol

Really impressive bass in these monitors.

Good to hear Drew,I am relying on your input on these, because I doubt I can pry my dealers pair out of his hands for a home demo(he just got them too). Before I commit to the Sopras(sorry guys, but they are better than the s40s),I want to get a price on the upgrade you just did.The problem when I hear the C20s at his place,he never turns it up,uses the Blu2Dave as a source, and it is his music choice...so hard to really asses their sound.

Yep. The C20 is a definite step up. The C30 does to C20 what Focus 260 did to Focus 160. The C60 needs a much bigger room than the other two.

The Focal Sopra C1, at $8K, competes with Confidence C1 prices, much less C20. Comparing it to S40 is really not a fair comparison at all.
