Any ideas guys? I am having mixed thought as I heard that dacs these days perform admirably even in the sub1k to 2k range.

My speaker is contour 60 and i use Accuphase integrated amplifier e-470.

Any thoughts?

Check out the Musical Paradise MP-D2 MKII DAC...it is crazy good for the money...actually crazy good period

My first impression was they were more efficient but they played 'More True' at lower levels

Just looking at the numbers, the rated sensitivity of the MKII Sig is actually 1 dB lower than the original C1. But I'm not saying that I doubt what you heard. I think that the effect is at least partly owed to your electronics upstream. And the true loads are owed to your particular system.

I run an Ayre system (upgraded to current preamp/amp combo last August), and my C1s absolutely sing at low to moderate levels. Also, my system underwent run-in over the last couple of days that is very apparent to me and just elevated what's coming out of the C1s. Since this is not an Ayre discussion thread, I will refrain from talking it up, but I still am eyeing the C1's successor and imagining what it could do for me and my system.

Same behavior i had with the C-30, i am sure you could fond some of the comments I wrote throughout their break in period. Even sometimes I lost imaging and was coming back a half hour later sometimes they sounded like they had so much congestion it was horrible.

Mine are sounding sweet. These will be here for a while. I'm as happy with my system now as I ever have been. I will be adding a dedicated stand for my Naim gear but I'm good other than that.

You may of seen Wengers recent thread about adding Full Fraim, and basically saying it was an astonishing upgrade...I don’t think so,mine added a bit,but nothing revolutionary I’m afraid.I only paid a fraction of the price too.

Can't say I'm expecting a sq increase. It's more for looks and getting my other equipment back in my stand now.

Isolation transformer that provides balanced power to the DAC and my OLED. Also high current outlets with a huge capacitor to handle the amp and sub. Music sounds a little more relaxed. It was kind of a trip by my picture quality has improved as well. Plus it just felt wrong to plug all this expensive crap into a $50 surge protector.

Gentlemen, UnitiStar is in the house. Got it on Friday from Tyler. It's fully broken in and has been playing non-stop since Friday evening. It's an amazing piece of engineering by Naim.

Background: Tyler texted me that prices of Naim are going up as of 04/30 and he has a good deal on Naim. So I took my 260s, NACA5 and Nait5si to his shop for demo. One big mistake we did while demoing was that we paired Nait 5si with NacN272. Ha Ha...and the magic happened. 260s sounded really magical that even Tyler said that they are something special. So much clarity and wider soundstage and the bass was hitting the chest. We played rolling the deep by Adele and the bass was tight and accurate just like it should be. So whoever said that 260s aren't good then he/she hasn't heard them paired with good power components. Now I understand the addiction to 272/250/XPS combo. If Nait 5si + 272 can produce such magical sound then 272/250 would be extraordinary...neither bass was overshadowing the vocals nor the vocals were overshadowing the instruments.

Reality: We then paired 260s with Star and the magic disappeared as it was supposed to. So we played the same songs again and again and then we paired Nait 5si with ND5XS as well which was a disaster. So we paired them back with Star. Now it was better. Tyler said that Star has toroidal transformer and it takes 48-72hrs to warmup and produce amazing sound. So I paid Tyler and got Star home. Plugged it right away into 260s. Started playing different songs and after 6-7hrs magic started happening. Played Get lucky by Daft Punk and for the first time I could see woofers of my 260s popping. Fast Forward to Sunday evening. I played same songs and this is when Star really shined. One of the good things about Star is that the volume has numbering so you can remember at which volume you did the demo. It's really a keeper. The clarity is amazing. Everything is forward sounding unlike Nait 5si. Three things about star...1) CLARITY, 2) WIDE SOUNDSTAGE, 3) BASS...all so controlled and evened out. I'm hearing the cymbals so clearly. Saxophone is not shrieking and bass drum hits the sweet spot. Placing of instruments is so audible and timely. Bass is good and might become tighter over time but as of now it's good. Vocals are smooth and balanced. I agree with Callas on what he said about black background. it's there for real.

Regarding it's tech and features...there are so many of them. I still need to figure out. Naim app is awesome...got my Tidal and Spotify paired through it.

I have 260s toed in and I sit 7 feet from them and the sound seems to be coming from center channel...just like 90degrees soundstage...don't know if it's the right way to describe it but I'm enjoying it a lot. I would never trade in my 260s for any other speaker...would rather keep on upgrading the pre-amp/power-amp but don't see that happening either for at least 2-3 years given Star's performance.

Kind of sad to see Oppo go. My 205 has been great and Oppo kept making it better with firmware updates. It was like the swiss army knife of audio and video...

Thanks, no quarter!! Yes, 260s are super. I had heard from everyone that they are power hungry speakers but saw it happen for the first time during demo.

Congrats! I heard an Atom this past weekend and was really impressed with it. They had a Star but I didn't get to hear it. Confidence center you're using?

That would be sweet but I just need a single stack with 3 shelves and I'm out of cash right now too.

OPPO just announced that they will end production of their Blu-ray and headphones products in the near future. If you've been waiting, now is the time.

What confuses me is that the headphone market is expanding and their DAC’s and cans were very well regarded. If it was just streaming, why shut down all A/V hardware and not just the UDP line? Heck, they could’ve looked at replacing the UDP’s with a product to take on the NVidea Shield, ATV4K, Roku, etc..

Sad...and odd.

Oppo's focus is cellphones not headphones or BDPs. Manufacturing cost of cellphone is much cheaper and profit margins are high. That's what pushed Oppo to go that route.
