For me, the most moving performance they had done was from the 2007 Crossroads DVD, the song "Anyday." I can't seem to find that song recorded on any of their studio albums which appear on Tidal HiFi, and that may be a case of they weren't yet recording as The Tedeschi-Trucks Band. Just prior to the time of that show it was Susan Tedeschi as a solo artist, and The Derek Trucks Band.
Per the text I've bolded from your post above, Anyday was a cover of a Derek and the Dominoes Song off of the, "Layla..(etc)" album.

I'm old enough to be aware of the source, but thanks for the reminder just the same as it benefits those who didn't know. Have you seen the video of the Tedeschi-Trucks Band cover from the Crossroads 2007? I love their version of it!

Yes, saw your mention in a post above, where the song title sounded familiar. So I looked on youtube to find that live version from the T-T band. Then just a few notes confirmed my suspicion. Nice version.

This was a complete AAA remaster from the original tapes at Emil Berliner Studios in Germany, and – I believe – pressed at Pallas.

I screwed up and didn't buy it, and – as a 3-LP numbered, limited edition – it went out of print. Last week I stumbled serendipitously upon a new, sealed copy on Amazon, sold by Amazon Global UK for $90 (i.e. the original price). I quickly ordered it and it arrived yesterday. The shipping box arrived from England bashed up. My heart sank when I saw it, expecting the records to be damaged. Luckily, there was only a minuscule dent on one corner of the record box, and all record surfaces are perfect, and after an ultrasonic cleaning very quiet to boot.

OMG, this mastering sound fantastic. It's amazing what they can get out of 60 year old tapes. Not to mention, the performance is sublime. I have four other recordings of the Cello Suites (including Starker on Mercury) and I think this recording of the Fournier might well become a favorite.
Trip...no pottery-wheel; so I'll have to "settle" for, HDTracks 24-96 files

For those s40 owners. Which amp and dac are you using? Which one would you recomend?

Recently, I bought a s40 pair. I'm runnig them with a Marantz pm6006 at moderate volume. The set sounds good for me in my 16m2 room. But I read everywhere these monitors need more muscle. So sometimes I wonder if I'm missing something...If I could get more detail, dynamic or soundstage with another amp....

Preferibly I'm looking for an integrated amp+dac. My options are:
Hegel Rost
NAD C368 or C388(Do I need 150w?)
Moon 240i Neo

Also my local dealer is offering me the Primare i15 or i25 (class D) as a good match

thank you for your answer Pete. I still looking for a good and affordable amp for my special forty. I see your two amps are 100w at 8hm. Do you think 75w/8ohm is not enought for a 2,5m listening possition in a 16m2 room? My first option is a Hegel rost, with 75w. And my 2nd one a used Simaudio moon 340i; i would have to buy an external dac also...

I'm limited by the 38cm deep of my tv stand

I’m not familiar with that brand, but choose an amp which can double its power, has stable high current at 4ohms. You don’t need huge wattage for a small space - not a lot of difference between 75 and 100.. but remember it’s actually running at 150w at 4ohms if it can double its power..
By the way, my local dealer does use Hegel so the sound should match cheers.

I had just auditioned about 15 speakers. I had heard the Special 10 or 20 or something in the mid 80's. I thought it was so good. That I almost traded the Apogee's I had then. Now I heard I think it was the special 30 or 40? The current one. Once again it is truly "special". I decided on something much different. Although if that is your sound I feel it is the epitome of it. I would prefer them to big money Sonus Faber. I am just going in threads of speakers that were "contenders". It is not my sound but I can truly appreciate it. Like you may enjoy a single malt. You cannot deny Walker Blue is great too. I think for the right person these are outstanding. They come with much more than their price would suggest IMO. For instance if you are looking at the 805 D3 I think it is. I would listen to these too. I am sorry I do not know all the model names.

I'd also suggest a pre-owned NAD M32. Very good amp for the full retail price. Amazing bargain for a pre-owned one.

NAD M32 is a great example of very high quality made in China. Not everything from China is junk. Even cheaper TOTL Cambridge Audio is great Chinese stuff. If budget is $1,700 I highly recommend a used Classe CAP-2100. It seems they are always for sale. It was $6,000 in 1997. It is also a great deal used. Power is only 100WPC but doubles at 4 Ohms. You are talking like Mark Levinson or Krell there. I was worried about power caps that old. B&W Tech told me those should last 50+ years. I was also worried about the touch screen but it is fine. The screen on my DAVE DAC has been RMA'd 5 times now.

The Rost has a really good sounding dac also and it sounds powerful. I drove the salon2's with it, but it ran out of steam with those speakers. I think the rost was the first int from hegel to update the h360 dac and sound engine at least to my ears the rost and h190 sounded identical while the h360 was just a little less resolving at the extremes. the h190 would get you another 3db for twice the price if i'm understanding what the experts are telling us, that every doubling of power gains 3db output. obviously a generalization.
I vote for the rost, nice white finish also.

Meridian dsp8000se upgrade, Vienna acoustics Beethoven's, Hegel H360, Roon Nucleus, Rega jupiter cd, Revox s26 tuner,

Can any of the Dynaudio wireless speakers be used for surround duty? I imagine not, but if they will then it’s the key to my WAF trouble =) it looks like the wireless hub/transmitter only takes a R+L RCA input though, so I’m not getting my hopes too high. It’s my last shot before resorting to in ceiling options so I just had to ask.

Ooh; then I'll probably wait, for your impressions

So, your Vidars; are they heavy, for their size? One of the things, I'd look for...with the Aegirs; is for the weight to increase, case-work being equal.

I know it's not "true" class-A (it's "adaptive"); but I'd still expect/hope-for, some heft in the power-supply department.

thank all for your support. I think the hegel rost doesn't double the power at 4ohm. But I'm going to give it a chance in my little room. In the meanwhile, I'll still looking for used Moon340i or NAD M32.

I always wonder if I could get better dynamics and detail at low volumens with more power...

Lol. I haven’t put them in yet. I’ve been enjoying them with the Qute. I’ll ger bored at some point and try them with the 272. I am curious to how the tweeter compares with the Contour tweeter in same system and room. Although I use an x24 as center so I have a good idea.

So, your Vidars; are they heavy, for their size? One of the things, I'd look for...with the Aegirs; is for the weight to increase, case-work being equal.

I know it's not "true" class-A (it's "adaptive"); but I'd still expect/hope-for, some heft in the power-supply department.
Vidar tips the scales at 10 Kg, or 22 Lbs. Size is 9” x 13” x 3.875” Aegir is supposed to use the same case as Vidar so I don't expect the weight to go up a tremendous amount.

It’s my last shot before resorting to in ceiling options so I just had to ask.
In theory I would think so, but not sure how well....using the pre-outs of the rear surrounds then broadcasting to the speakers.... in theory should work.

Need advice from the Dynaudio fanboys here

I am looking for a warm sounding int amp with HT Bypass to drive my S40 and have shortlisted the following:
1. Plinius Hiato (introduced since 2009)
2. Hegel H360
3. Simaudio Moon 700i (not v2)
4. Mcintosh MA7900

Are there other int amps with HT Bypass that I should look out for?
Based on the above 4 amps, which amp will mate the S40 nicely

I need HT Bypass as I would like the int amp to drive my front speakers while the other speakers can be driven by my Denon AV
wersuss likes this.

Naim Supernait 2

Personally I drive my Focus 260s with a Uniti Star in HTBP mode as well. I’ve never had an issue playing loud AF, for movies or music.
