On the subject of DACs, one of my favorite aspects of the F260s is how they do open up in an insightful manner to allow one, if so inclined, to "hear the gear" as it were.

I've had both an Yggy A2, fed by a Jay's digital transport and now I have a pro audio dac based on humble AKM chips, called the Dangerous Music Convert 2. The Yggy Analog 2 is an excellent DAC IF you can leverage its balanced outputs and IF you can feed it something that isn't USB. For both the Yggy and my current DM2, I use AES/EBU from a CD transport (Sonic Frontiers CDT-1 today, replaced the Jay's which I sold earlier this year). I also use a Pi streamer that has an AES/EBU "hat" on it and feed it from Roon Labs software, so that occupies the 2nd AES/EBU input on the DM2 DAC.

Where the Yggy is a very special DAC - it images incredibly well, it has taut, refined bass and organic midrange - it will offend LITERALLY no one with a decent ear - I truly prefer the DM2. This is a DAC that is basically used in the creation of rock music. The best way I could sum it up is - Dangerous Music set out to create the absolute perfect DAC for playing Master of Puppets. And they succeeded. It images fine, but it has this intensity and engagement in the midbass and midrange that is addicting. And it suits the Focus 260s really well. Bassier (yet still taut and punchy) than Yggy, the DM2's heart and soul is its analog output section. I can't tell you what makes it special because I don't know, but basically they used "pretty good" DAC chips and made this thing a killer DAC with everything else around it. It's not for everyone - it's I/O options are limited (2 AES, 1 S/PDIF, 1 USB), it only has balanced out, it has a master clock override switch, and it has level monitoring meters. It's a pretty cool piece of gear and I'm very thankful it fits within the other gear I have.

I'd have no complaints at all about getting another Yggy, but my DAC searching is over for a very long time. This DAC just makes my favorite types of music even more musical and engaging than I could have hoped.

And it, coupled with a 24/96 version of Fear Inoculum running into my Bedini 200/200 motivating my F260s? It's heaven.

Too long of a name to be ChiFi... LOL... Look at the back of the unit... Designed in Maryland, the original company Jolida was from Maryland then some Chinese knock off company tried to take it over years ago but failed. Long history of some good stuff, but it got tainted buy counterfeit equipment etc.. A typical the Chinese plant were stuff was being made split off and stoled intellectual property and tried to make similar knock offs but that didn't work out too well. Its s h i t like this that gets me pissed at times that people have zero issues with having things built their like its no big deal, and it the long run it usually is... Hopefully Dynaudio doesn't go that route, I would hate to see knock off speakers from them showing up in the US, hence why they pulled their production of raw drivers from the market years ago.

No issues supporting a company that states it, and or says they use labor in China for some parts and they disclose it, I can't stand it when a company skirts the issue, not knowing your enemy is worse! LOL

Just a FYI:

Not sure if anyone made it to Colorado this year, but the Confidence 20's did get an honored pick for being one of the best bookshelf (monitor) at Show! Congrats to Otto and his team on this..... I might just have to give these a listen if we ever get any near by me! LOL Wishful thinking.....

Thanks Garman, I did not think the Confidence 20’s were even there, according to JNelson. Looks like the Chord Dave won best DAC, and the TT2 won best headphone amp/DAC combo...Schitty.

Interesting unless it was in some room just for reviewers.... which wouldn't make any sense... The most anticipated speaker from Dynaudio and it's taken "Forever" to get into the US market... It list them in that link... Doesn't surprise me on the TT2 or anything from Schitty is usually good.. LOL

I meant Dynaudio NA wasn’t there as they are doing Cedia instead. No clue if a third party brought a pair in. Could’ve been. I didn’t see it when I had some down time roaming the halls. No clue where it could’ve been hidden.

I did catch the reviewer saying “ they were in house for several weeks” so I’m still sticking with saying no Dynaudio was present.

Thanks for confirming Jeff, hey George posted a photo of the Z01 on the Borrenson thread, and I commented over there, perhaps you can reply to it over there...more appropriate than here.

FYI that Schiit released a new Bifrost 2 DACwith a new single-ended/balanced topology with their new Unison USB input, along with other goodies. Expect these to spread up the line to Gungnir and to Yggy to an extent.

They have also released their new Sol turntable. Lots of good Schiit.

Looking to upgrade my speakers. I have Focus 380 now. I am happy with the sound, but I want better imaging, depth, and more flatter response speakers. I thought contour C30 / 60 would be ideal, but been looking at Confidence 20 as well. My room is a mid size (15'x20'x8'). The 20s look really interesting ... Any thoughts?

Yeah I am thinking about getting the bitfrost 2... but atm I am using rca interconnects so maybe the cheaper modi multibit will do?

Thinking of one of those two dacs and a Vidar and saga+... to pair with Dynaudio special 40’s.

How could I connect a subwoofer like an svs sb-3000 to a schiit system like this?

Do it all or don't do it at all.

If your sub has active out then DAC -> Preamp (saga) -> Sub -> Amp (Vidar) -> Speakers.

Most Dynaudio speakers in the middle to upper range use the Esotar, which is close enough. Eg the Confidence series of yore is very close.
But a radical answer - 7 S40s? Or at least the front 3?

Think the Contour towers will have some more dynamic in lower region and in low volume compare to the Confidence 20 monitors.
Other than that, i heard new Confidences and they are something special and recommand to audition next to the Contours if you have the opportunity.

I was considering purchasing a Music 7 to sit in my kitchen below a TV. I noticed they are on sale at the moment. Does anyone know if this is because there is an updated model due out. Do not want to invest in something that is quickly replaced.

They currently are at CEDIA in the US, here is a link to what they have going on, but I don't see an update to the Music system I would guess maybe next year as they are still relatively new. I have the Music 3 and wanted it because of portability so I can move it around the house and outside. The cool thing is I just read they will have an outdoor speaker, 2 of them available soon, which would be great for my current home.

Otto: Thank you and Dynaudio for releasing these! I would have these up at my Lake House in a heart beat, currency have the PSB's which I thought was one of the better indoor/outdoor speaker on the market, but your new units look great!

https://www.dynaudio.com/custom-inst...or-series/ow-8 Only issue I see, is the weird connector on the back of the unit...

Hi I’m thinking of buying a pair of mono amps built using Icepower 200 acs modules. These would be powering my Contour 3.4s.
Does anyone have any experience with these D Class amps with Dyns and also any advice about which pre amp to use on a budget of about £150.

Not sure what a budget of £150 is

Try to demo Dyn's with the class D amps you're considering. I say that because class D has come a long way. There are some that are great and others still not so much. They can sound lean. I have a class D Aavik U300 integrated and it's anything but lean. I've heard it and Aaviks U150 with the new Contours and it's great. It's extremely expensive at retail U300 ($30K USD) U150 ($15K without dac or phono) but can be found on the pre owned market for less that half. Aavik showed the new U380 and if it's as good as they say there may be a lot of pre owned U300s in the market.

As far as a pre amp make sure the output impedance matches the input impedance of the amp because a mismatch can sound real bad.

Good luck

This forum still has problems in posting certain letters and characters from mobile devices, I see.

I would take that "£150" to probably be $150, but I suppose it could be 'Pounds Sterling' (£) or Euros (€).

I dont know if there is a new generation of icepower boards, but barring that i would be tempted to look at something hypex ncore based instead. I dont have direct experience with either but i did alot of research on them in the past and hypex seemed like the clear leader. I did have great success running my c4s from a class d crown xls amp for a few years. It sounded fantastic and it was fun running an amp that costs the same as my preamp remote control. I still use the crown as a subwoofer amp. They would cost 5x as much if they were in a nicer box and manfactured by the dozen instead of by the thousands

LOL, most criminals wouldn't have a clue what Dynaudio even is, plus my speakers at my Lake house are on brackets that you can screw on and off in 30 seconds, I only put them up when we go up.

Dynaudio Confidence C2 Platinums (Mocca), Dynaudio Contour 20's (Grey Oak) KEF LS50 (Black), Magnepan 1.7i, Belles VT-01/MB-200s, NAD M10, Hegel, Musical Fidelity and various other good brands.. HT system: Dynaudio SCX Center, Dynaudio In-Walls for Surrounds and Sony VPL-295ES possibly a new Monitor in the future.

Having mulled everything over I think I’m almost certainly going to go for a Nad C370 which I’ve been offered for 150 British pounds.
This is a safe ‘Budget’ amplifier which won’t set the world alight I know but won’t sound terrible either.
So it’s a safe temporary amplifier with plenty of power.

It can also be upgraded by bypassing it’s preamp section which is a weakness apparently with a better separate preamp.

Something with valves if matched sympathetically can by accounts give great results.

That's a good powerful amp to start with, and believe me you could do much worse!

Anyone locally looking for a great deal on a pair of C2's, not affiliated with this seller, but they look to be in near perfect condition!
