Yeah my numbers do look like that. However, you can probably pin the date down precisely by emailing your serial numbers to Revel customer support here in the US and they could tell you exactly when they were made.

And I don't think 7 years is anything to be concerned about. I've had 25-year-old speakers that have worked brilliantly when I sold them (to a friend) and they're still pumping out the beats.

Best,
Bob

My Studio2s had the manufacture date printed on the shipping cartons.

Frequency response, why doesn't Revel seem to list it on many of their speakers? I got some in ceiling speakers (C763L) and they don't list it and looking at some subs and even downloading the manual they don't list the frequency response which seems odd.

That does seem a bit odd. Luckily, there is a 3rd party site that lists Spinorama data for most Revel speakers although this is not provided directly by Revel. Seems like Revel needs one person capable of making such a decision to assign someone to adding links to the website with spins for each speaker. They have them, embrace the science wholeheartedly(almost), and wouldn't be that much work to do it.

Even if they "buried" the spins into a white paper for each speaker so that only those truly interested would get to them, rather than confuse the average consumer with TMI they don't understand.

I think someone posted the frequency response for the in-ceiling speakers several months ago. It's buried in hard-to-find pdf somewhere in cyber space. Rex has recommended crossing them over between 120-140hz, although the specs page lists 80hz +/- 3db.

Is that for the entire revel line? That'd be a heck of a deal!

Early impressions are that I really like them so far, but, I like to take my time in making a definitive stance. I don't want to succumb to the "my shiny new toys are the bestest ever in the history of the world" syndrome. It's easy to be kind of excited about our new stuff, so I like to take my time, be objective as possible, listen to a large variety of music over time while really listening and paying attention. Also experimenting a lot with multi channel listening. In real world use(not sitting with my head in a vice in the perfect MLP), using the center channel certainly locks vocals and such down in the center better than stereo, and the ambiance and envelopment of using all 5 channels is certainly very different.

I haven't done movies extensively on them yet, so I can't report much here. I did watch The Elephant Queen(Apple TV documentary) and the sound was great....vocals through the center seemed very clear and natural.

As long as they will meet your output needs, if your getting F36 for half MSRP brand new, its a no brainer. If you are 12'+ away and want reference level playback, I don't think they are the right choice. I need more time with mine to determine if they fully meet my needs for home theater. However, I decided I was willing to give up a little bit of home theater capability to gain some benefits for music I was after.

I do think they sound very good with music so far.

Hmm, that could motivate me to buy another pair of Salon 2's. LOL

They have one big sale a year and this year has me tempted to pick up a pair of speakers. I am perfectly happy with my B&W 805S for music listening but now that I have just turned a room into a more HT based room, I feel that “better” speakers for movie viewing may be in order. So far, the announced deal is for the F12, F35, F36, F206, or Studio2.

Thanks for the feedback. My sitting position is about 12’ and I am willing to give up some music capability for more HT benefits. My local dealer has the F35s setup in a listening room and I liked them, I can only assume that the F36 would be better.

That certainly is interesting. Is this for new orders or just existing stock and floor demos?

Do you have to buy other associate items at MSRP in order to get the BOGO?

How long is the sale last?

Most importantly where are you located?

Damn! You have two separate speakers that match your flooring perfectly - well done! Call me nostalgic, but I so dig retro speakers and their looks.

F208/F206 comparison

Just got in a pair of F206's for rear surrounds to go with my F208's and C208. I thought it might help folks to see the size comparison. I used my Lexicon MC-10 to play stereo music to the rear channels only and kept cranking up the volume expecting to see clip lights on my Bryston 3B SST2. I couldn't get it to happen before it was way too loud and didn't want to put in ear plugs just to see clip lights flash. The F206s are small but mighty, amazingly powerful speakers for their size. Mine have to be close to the rear wall but that makes them sound huge. When I get subs and run Dirac I expect the low end in my room to be very powerful and extended.

Rex, don't you have your stock spikes attached? Yesterday I tried but was unable to screw those in and am really confused. It looked like the spikes couldn't fit into their places deep enough so I've had to discard the idea. I don't like these spikes anyway as unlike to Polk lsim it's really inconvenient to adjust their height and think whether third-party outriggers worth their money

I have used the spikes in the past but am not using them now. Not sure why you would be having a problem screwing them in. I didn't have any problems when I used them in a previous house.

It's probably worth checking the screw hole for construction adhesive / debris. That happened with my speakers. I wound up using an allen wrench to work it out.

I finally took delivery on a pair of F206's (pictured below). I've been traveling a ton and just got back to AZ late last night. An hour ago, the F206's were delivered (see below). I'll give an update on the speaker comparison experiment in the next few days.

Since I didn't have time to re-package up the F228's, I might as well give them another A-B-C comparison. The Salon2's that were pictured earlier are now at their new home. I should mention that my customer is liking his new Salon2's even more than his Magico A3's ($12,300).

Based off of sound quality 1st and size 2nd, my prebias is that the F226Be's will be staying and they have more bottom end and control. We shall see. I needed another pair of speakers in my loft area so I figured I might as well compare them in the same room before I drag them up to the loft. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I've already decided that the F228Be's won't be staying. More to follow in the next several days.

I've had a fair number of Revels shipped to me in the past year and I have had this issue with a few. For those, I purchased an appropriate thread flat-bottom tap to clean out the threads in the speaker.
