I have a SB2000.

Multi-channel music is my favorite, athough there's only a limited number of releases out there.

I usually listen to 2-channel music in Dolby upmixing or whatever it's called, which I believe uses the center as well.

Anyway I'm sure I'll be testing them out with the Q600.

There will be a difference between the LS50's and Q600 for music, maybe not as noticeable for HT. I find music sounds better in 2.1 stereo even with matching center and surrounds. I'm curious as well since I'm keeping my Q200c. Unfortunately, I won't be getting my LS50's until early next week. Kind of bummed me out when I learned they were shipping out from Richmond B.C.

Maybe you can test it out and let me know how well the LS50 matches your Q200.

It would really irritate me if the front stage is not consistent as I watch everything in surround if at all possible.

I'm keen to hear your observations because my setup might end up being very similar to yours!

That wait would be agonizing, I bet you were hoping you'd get them before the weekend.

Yeah, it's generally about 2 days since they ship out from Toronto. Ordered from a different place this time and I did get them at a very good price, so can't really complain.

I should post first impression by end of next week. It'll probably take a day or two to break in, placement, audyssey....etc.

The spikes would reduce vibration, but not sure how big a difference it'll make. You can however use isolation pads to avoid damage to your wood floor.

R600? Floor spikes?

If it's the R500, R700, or R900 floor-standing speakers, those come with protector pads to use under the spikes. I'll post a photo of mine later today, after I get home from work.

The R600 is actually R600c, a center speaker.

Best regards Daniel.
With wood floors the biggest concern will be reflections from the floor.

Regarding spikes or no spikes, I have never preferred spikes. Just make sure that the speakers are stable and sure footed on the floor.

I think you really hit the nail on the head with this. My sweet spot volumes are pretty close to yours (about -32 to -40), and they sound really good there. Turn them higher than that and that harshness starts to creep in.

Mind you -30 is quite loud and borderline excessive so I rarely go there. Any lower then -40 (in stereo with enhancements turned off. Multi-channel is different) they sound like they lack weight or dynamics if you will.

It would help if you can measure the SPL at 1 meter using a free smartphone sound meter. There are many free ones and most are very accurate.

Then we could compare one person's -40 to another person's -30 as those numbers are highly dependent of the way the volume control is designed and the power of the amp.

Connecting KEF LSX speakers to Kube8b subwoofer

Just added the Kube8b subwoofer to my LSX bookshelf speakers in my bedroom. It already sounds great to have the added bass punch, but I'm puzzled by the setup options.

The subwoofer has a crossover frequency control, factory preset at 80Hz. But the KEF control app also has a slider control called "Speaker/subwoofer balance" that "Control(s) the bass output between speaker and subwoofer. For example, Slider to Subwoofer is subwoofer handling most of the bass output."

So, does the app control override the crossover dial on the subwoofer, or are the two independent? And if they're independent, any recommendations on a good starting point for both controls, please?

Here is what I will suggest.

1. Remove any cross over settings from the sub.

2. Place the sub somewhere between the two LSX. This is because you may see some localization at the beginning of the test.

3. Cover the LSX port with foam.

4. Set the cross over frequency at 200 hz in LSX set up.

5. Play your favorite music increase or decrease the sub volume till you get the best sound.

6. Reduce cross over frequency by 20 hz increments till 80 hz. Repeat step 5 to get the best sound at each cross over frequency.

What ever setting sounds the best is the right setting for your room.

Just my two cents.

What the heck... Just listened to REDEFINED Acapella by Imagine Dragons... and my R700s started to produce some kind of a clicking noise at -13dB and up at the part when the kick drum was added to the voices... I disconnected subs to isolate the clicking sound, and sure enough, those static-sparks-like clicks were coming from R700s... Was it what people usually refer to as clipping?

Does it mean my Yamaha AVENTAGE A2070 had finally showed me its limits or it was the limit of my speakers? Would a real amp cure those clicks?

Here is the link to the music piece:

1. Samsung UN55MU7000, Yamaha A2070, KEF R700, R200c, 2x Kube 10b
2. Panasonic 50" (plasma), Yamaha A550, KEF R300s, Q100s, Kube 12b.

If it happens only at a high volume, then either the speakers are bottoming out of the amp is going into protection mode.

Check to make sure that your sub setting is NOT speaker and sub both.

Check to see if R700 speakers have excessive displacement.

Remove all speakers other than one R700 and see if the problems moves to a different volume level. Most AVR can provide a lot more power when only one speaker is driven.

I am planning to take a vacation in Vancouver. Maybe I will pick up something there. Could you give me the name and town it is in?

Sure - looks like multiple locations. The Surrey and Abbotsford are closer to me if driving North from Washington but the Vancouver store may be closer for you if you fly into Vancouver.
