That's what I did

I measured from the middle of the two midrange speakers to the top of the speaker, put my pointer there, then adjusted the speakers to hit the sweet spot.

makes sense...

Last question - for the SS-150 surround placement:
I have heard place:
1. directly at ear level (Dolby ATMOS)
2. place 2'+ above ear level (THX standard)
3. 2' above or below ear level (M&K Spec sheet).

With 4 speaker ceiling ATMOS setup 5.2.4 and (Marantz 7011) Audyssey room correction pushing s150s & ss150s would you recommend ear level or +2' or -2' ?

I personally have my surround speakers above ear level because obstacles don't make it possible to lower them (they are 6.5 feet from the ground). One negative of having speakers at ear level, in my opinion, is they can become a bit overpowering on 5.1 tracks if you are too close to them. They sound great for Atmos that way, but not so great on everything else. I personally like them being a bit higher, although my ceiling speakers are 10' 6" so I still have separation between them. Can you run some wires and do testing to see what you prefer?

I will be building a dedicated home theater (16'x20') in our new home's basement. I am considering using M&K speakers for 11 Atmos channels. I am thinking S300 for the L/C/R, MP150 for the 4 wall surround channels, and IW95 for the 4 height (ceiling) channels. Subwoofers are two JL Audio Fathom v113v2 (13.5" sealed), which I already own.

1) Any thoughts on this M&K speaker configuration? I cannot afford 300-series speakers for all the surrounds, but I figure MP150's are more than adequate (maybe even overkill for surround channels?)

2) I am hoping to power everything with ATI amplifiers (and a Marantz AV8805 processor). Any suggestions on which ATI amplifiers? I was thinking their Signature Series AT6003 (class A/B, 450W RMS into 4 ohm) for the most important LCR channels, and their new highly reviewed AT528NC (class D, based on Hypex Ncore 500, 300W RMS into 4 ohm) for the 8 surround channels. I wasn't keen on the massively heavy AT6003, but since the S-300 is VERY sensitive (93 dB), I am concerned their class D amplifier will not cut it and have too high a noise floor.

Would appreciate any thoughts/suggestions!

That is an excellent combination and you'll be very happy. I have vintage S150s that are 17 years old, but reviewed both the S300s and S150s (new models) and they are both excellent speakers. I've also reviewed by the Signature Series amp (I think it was the 7 channel...it was many years ago) and their new N-Core amps (527 and 524) and ended up buying them since I liked them so much. Not quite to the level of the Signature Series, which was the quietest amp I every auditioned, but still excellent. Like you stated, they aren't as heavy nor do they put off as much heat. The Marantz is a great choice (I reviewed that as well). Overall, you'll have a great system that will blow you away.

You will have a great system!

I'm building an HT/media room with the new 150 series. IW150 as LCR, S150T surrounds and IC95 for Atmos(when they will be released). I will be using the Lyngdorf MP-50 processor and Lyngdorf SDA-2400 amps. They are only 2 channel amps but they run cool and are very quite! Next year Lyngdorf will release an 8 channel version.

Just curious why you chose the tripole S150 for surrounds - I though object oriented Atmos is better suited with direct radiating surrounds like the MP150?

Also , wasn’t aware IC95 is coming out - do you know how this will compare to the IW95 spec wise ? I assume you prefer this because it will be a smaller/round speaker more suited to flush ceiling mount ?

The first reason for using the S150T is that I'm quite close to the surround speaker and secondly I will "only" have a 5.3.4 system. This means I don't have surround back speakers or front wide speakers and a tripole design will shorten the distance between the front speakers and the sound will spread more behind me, if you understand what I mean. English is not my native language, sorry.

There is an IC95 coming out it's a coaxial design so better suited for Dolby Atmos:

Any other suggestions for M&K Atmos Surrounds ? Would there be much difference between the IW150 vs MP150 (in wall vs on wall)?

This thread seems heavy on subwoofers and variants of the S150 models. Are there any LCR-950 owners here?

Glad to see the 950 series has just got a new acoustic upgrade with a new Danish tweeter and crossover. Anyone know if and when the SUR95T Tripoles are also getting the upgrade?

Hello everybody
I switched from a MX350THX 1st generation to 2 x12.
Since the 12er are larger I have put down because of the screen, there are sound limitations?
I have not found the right setup yet, maybe I expected too much and the room is also problematic
I think about putting them under the s150 right and left.

thanks so much

Question regarding the Anthem PVC 8 - 8-channel power amplifier; 125 watts per channel continuous power into 8 ohms.

https://www.anthemav.com/products-cu.../page=overview

MK speakers are rated to 4 ohms, roughly how many watts would be provided with the above power amp powering the MK 150T / IW950 / IC95 ?

Hi there , just received a set of SS-150 THX Mk 1 rear tripole speakers ( serial 664568 and 664569 ) approx. 15 years old .

Both " point arrow towards screen " stickers were loose in the box ( adhesive had dried up ) . Is there anyway of now determining which speaker is the rear left and rear right now that the stickers are off the back ?

cheers Gary

Here is a pic of the Left surround backside with its arrow displayed. This should help you with the arrows pointing to the side walls.

Connect and operate each speaker independently in tripole mode. Move around the speaker while it is playing. When you are at an angle about midway between the front driver and side driver on each side you should be able to tell a difference. From one side it should sound similar to a monopole, very direct and easy to audibly locate. From the other it should sound rather diffuse like a dipole, difficult to audibly locate. The side that sounds like a monopole should point toward the screen.

Official MK - Miller & Kreisel Thread?!?

How much perceivable difference is there between IW150 and IW300 for LCR duty?

The latter commands a huge price premium (essentially double the price) and I am not sure it’s worth it. Use case is a dedicated home theater (15x20’), average listening levels, driven by 300w RMS (into 4 ohm) class AB amplifier.

Hi on my X10 subwoofer I just run a Low Frequency Range Test (10-200 Hz) https://www.audiocheck.net/audiotest...cychecklow.php

and I can only hear from 30HZ should I not also hear down to 20HZ according to its specs? Frequency Response: 20 – 200 Hz +/- 2 dB

I don't have experience with the in-wall speakers, but their regular speakers there is an audible difference between the two. The 300's have a deeper midrange and have a bit more heft. That being said, the S150s don't sound weak or thin at all. Of the two, I think the S150s are the better value, but if you have money to spare, go for the IW300s for pice of mind

Are you using S150 and IW150 interchangeably? Is there difference between these two ? the IW are still a sealed cabinet so I would think any difference is negligible.

They may sound slightly different due to the effect the cabinet has on the actual drivers and air movement.

Hi all,

I really want a M&K Sound 7.1 system for my home theater, but the new S150 system is way out of budget, so I am looking at used original S150s. I want to know, are those speakers still good today? I'm also looking at PSA MT-110 system or DIY Sound Group HTMs. Are the originals still good/better than today's speakers of around $700 each?

Thanks!

I still have my S-150 system I bought in 1999. Lately I've been wanting to try some HTM-12s or other horns (like the PSAs you mentioned) but these things just keep pounding out big sound. I'm afraid if I get rid of them I'll regret it.
I'm not sure about their value today vs the speakers you mentioned but I know it would take a pretty generous offer for me to part with mine. Good luck in your search.

I'm also looking at PSA MT-110 system or DIY Sound Group HTMs. Are the originals still good/better than today's speakers of around $700 each?

Thanks!
Get the original S150 and SS150 that Ken Kreisel designed, you will not be disappointed. there are a lot of good deals out there (Ebay, USAudiomart) I have 3 x S150 and 2 x SS150T on Bryston Power, 2 x MPS-5410 Subs, every time someone hears the system they are blown away. In-fact a buddy of mine is now on the original M&K bandwagon after hearing the system, he has the same setup as I do except with 2x MX-5000 subs and 4 more SS-150

Talking M&K THX Select System- LCR-750THX System For Sale

M&K’s THX Select system, comprised of the LCR-750THXs, Center-750THX, S-550THXs and V-1250THX Subwoofer.
The system is in great condition. I had it in my Media Room at my last house and in my new house..No Media Room.
So Now I would rather sell it to someone who can enjoy it, then have it packed away.

I am looking at $650 for the system and you would have to pay for Shipping.
I only accept Paypal and will only ship within the Domestic US

I might be able to get the left/right/center speakers for $500. Is this too much for them used?

How could I mount them on a wall? Is there mounts made by M&K or anyone else for wall mounting?
I have a whole 750THX System that I am selling..Let me know if your interested
