I do not have any hearing issues. Now I’d love to get the 803 D3 eventually and move the 805 to the sides but since the tweeter and mid cones are the same, why would it be any louder? I already use 2 subs that really sing. (The SVS SB-16 Ultra only needs to be at -20dB to fill the space)
I am also interested in those questions answered. I have recently decided to save money by going 'bookshelves' for all 4 fronts and rears for my home cinema. I asked around and people said that the 805D3/D2 range combined with 2 subs should have good imaging and better room-control of the low frequencies. The latter is due to the possibility of optimally placing the subs and the less complex nature of bookshelf speakers, for which one does not need to take into account (a) the vibration of the towers' cabinet and (b) the power requirements for the amp, which need to be high enough to drive the bass woofers – and which can probably affect the performance of the mid-range woofer due to vibrations (see (a)). I guess I also save money by getting two 1kW SVS subs vs buying an expensive amp with hundreds of Watts per channel (that are in any case wasted most of the time, at normal listening levels (e.g. 85dB), and would only be useful for the fronts, anyway.

You’ll be thrilled. I think the 802d3 will be kept for many years.

The 803 and 802 don’t really sound louder than the 805 but they do somehow sound fuller. The 805 is a little warmer than the 803. The 803 has all the fullness and imaging of the 802 but lacks some of the warmth brought by the larger speakers. The 805 has the warmth but lacks some of the imaging and presence of the 803 and 802. The 805 is the closest match tonally to the 802 which makes it a perfect surround to 802 fronts. Probably due to having the 6” continuum over the 5” once the 803 or 804.

805d3 + subs = a very good experience.

The 805 has a 6.5” continuum bass/mid because of the 2 way design.
802, 800 & HTM1 D3 have 6” continuum mid.
The 803, 804 & HTM2 D3 have a 5” continuum mid.

I have 805D3 in my office and love them! What color 802s are you going with?

702 S2 -- opinions of those who own or have heard vs Focal Aria

Hi, all, I'm considering B&W 702 S2 and Focal Aria 936/948, as they are in a similar price range. Has anybody spent significant time comparing the "house sound" of these?

I was briefly able to hear the 702 S2 with 804 D3 side by side. Yes, they simply have a different "house sound". The 804 D3 is brighter and more clear sounding, but the 702 S2 also sounded very good, and perhaps might be easier to listen to for extended periods. Interestingly, I did not find the 804 to offer better bass than the 702.

Any objective thoughts on the 702 vs the Focal Aria sound from folks who've heard both? Thanks!

FAMILY ROOM--Legacy Signature II tower speakers(Front L/R), PSB Image 5T tower speakers(Surrounds), Denon AVR-X5200W, Krell FPB 400cx, AR ES-1 turntable w/ Audioquest 404-B cartridge, Oppo UDP-203 UHD Blu-ray Player, RCA HD-DVD player, Samsung HL67A 750A TV
MASTER BEDROOM--Dynaudio Audience 82 tower speakers, Outlaw LFM-1 sub, Yamaha RX-V1800 receiver, Sherbourn 5/1500A 5-channel amp, Oppo BDP-83 Universal Disc Player, Panasonic 60-ST60 plasma TV.

The 702s2 in my opinion is a nicer sounding speaker than the 804d3. The 804 has more detail and a little better sound stage but the 702 is a bit warmer sounding and definitely easier to listen to. I borrowed a pair of 804s for a week and my ears hurt. I think the 804d3 would pair well with a warm sounding amp such as a McIntosh or a tube but with emotiva or something bright or a receiver I’d go with the 805 or 702 instead. I originally wanted the 804d3 for rear surrounds but ended up preferring the way the 805d3 sounded instead due to the 6” vs 5” midrange.

Hi all,

Very new to this so please excuse any mis-steps. I'm currently in the process of replacing the entire surround sound setup and I've been recommended the SR5012 by several people. I'm trying to decipher the specs of it and trying to figure out if its enough to power the BW 704s2 speakers (with matching 700 series center). I'll occasionally be playing in 2.1 mode and also use it for movies in a 5.1 application but I'm terrible with numbers but it looks like if I set it to 6ohm, I should have more power to drive them? Can someone please help with this? Thank you.

The specs for the speakers are as follows:
Recommended amplifier power 30W - 150W into 8Ω on unclipped programme

The specs for the amp are as follows:
Number of Poweramps 7
Power Output (8 ohm, 20 Hz - 20 kHz, 0.08% 2ch Drive) 100 W
Power Output (8 ohm, 20 Hz - 20 kHz, 0.05% 2ch Drive) -
Power Output (6 ohm, 1 kHz, 0.7% 2ch Drive) 140 W
Power Output (6 ohm, 1 kHz, 10% 1ch Drive) 200 W

That 6 ohm setting really doesn't do anything. The Onkyo will be plenty of power.

I noticed today that all of the 600 series speakers are no longer listed on Best Buy's website. I wonder if this means there is a refresh coming?

I stopped by the store at the magnolia guy said he hadn't heard any news suggesting that, and they weren't selling/discounting the floor demo speakers yet. I was hoping to pick up the 683 S2 on display for a steal. No such luck.

Was wondering the same thing. Wouldn't be that crazy considering they updated to the 700 series 2 from the outgoing CM series (shorter than the traditional 5 year refresh). I visited a few days ago and they had removed some of the 600 series 2 display models (686).

Center channel pairing question- I have a pair of CM 8 S2 and want to voice match a center channel. The CM Centre S2 would be ideal, but I can't find one anywhere... What's the next best option?

I would be patient and monitor the used market (AudiogoN, USAudiomart, etc). You could potentially use a 600 series 2 center or an CM S1 center.

I think they were making room for ELAC Debut 2.0 which debuts in Best Buy this week. I went to Magnolia looking to pick-up 686 S2 in white for surrounds. Those were still full price and hard to find. The rest of the 600 series are no longer available.

I guess i have to wait for the new 600 S3 series hoping they inherit the continuum driver or the carbon dome tweeter to better match my 700 S2 L/C/R speakers. The 707 S2s are not good for wall mounted front/surround heights being back-ported unlike the front-ported 686 S2.

You could / should close off the ports with the supplied plugs anyway if too close to a wall or ceiling. It tightens up bass performance and lower bass, if any in heights, can be handled by your subwoofer easily, with crossover at 90/100/120 Hz. Mids and heighs matching is more important than maybe some loss in bass performance I guess. And it looks better too.

About to put in my order for this room! Please help me finalize.
https://www.avsforum.com/forum/19-ded...l#post55886420

I am putting in a 120" screen with an ultra short throw projector

Center will be above the screen. Going all in wall/ceiling speakers

3 CWM 7.3 for LCR

4 CCM7 for atmos (the drivers can be pointed towards seating position so I thought they'd be better)

For rear surrounds, problem is sofa is maybe 2ft from the back wall. Do I do CWM7.5 in the wall behind me LR? I was thinking the 7.4 is overkill for the size room and seating area?
Or should I go with speakers above?

For Subwoofer I was ordering 2 of the ISW4 in wall Subwoofers, Anyone have these? It says I can use 1 of the SA250 AMP, but should I get 2 amps? 1 each?

Separately I was ordering speakers for my dining room and kitchen, only the sonos connect amps. they are only 55W per channel, so do I get any benefit of the 662 over the 663? Or should I save money and get the 663?

I also am getting the outdoor AM1 and the marine outdoor speakers for some spots outside the house

Would love advice!! Oh, and what receiver can I run the home theater with? Can I use a Denon? Marantz, Onkyo? 5.2.4 atmos? Or do I have to go higher end?

Hi All

I've got a question regarding a stand for my center channel HTM1 D3. I currently have the speaker placed on a stand below my 110" screen and the top of the tweeter is about 20" off the ground (it is tilted upwards). Based on the distance between the bottom of the screen and the floor, I would like to get the speaker about 6" higher off the ground so that it is closer to ear level. Can folks recommend a center speaker stand that is large and sturdy enough to hold the HTM1 (which weighs 67 lbs) and sits about 14" off the floor? Has anyone tried getting a custom made stand from companies like G-Wiz Custom Wood Products. If yes, how did you like it?

I tried looking on the B&W website but could not find any information on center speaker stands that B&W might make/sell.

Thanks.

The B&W stand is 11” tall and with the spikes and the optional inserts that go between the 4 legs and top base you can tilt it back so the top of the tweeter is about 26” off the floor.

Don't agree. I am using 706s2 for this exact purpose with the ports plugged. They are fantastic.

Do you have pictures of your set-up?

Thanks for the information on the B&W stand. It looks about right to me. I'll need to find out if I have to purchase it from my dealer or if it is readily available online. For some reason I cannot seem to find any information on speaker stands on the B&W website, even when I use the search function.

Thanks again for your help.

Or do I have to go higher end?
i also use the CWM7.3's for my LCR. I currently have CWM7.4's as my surrounds and am considering selling them (still have three years on the warranty) because I can get a really good deal on a set of CWm7.3's to also use for surrounds. For my Atmos Speakers I am using 4 CCM682's and will be adding a 3rd set when my new Marantz 8805 arrives. I like the CWM7.4 as a surround speaker if the CWM7.3's are being used as LCR surrounds because they both have the same size woofer. I also use Rotel amps with the speakers and think they really complement the speakers a lot. I use a RMB-1585 for my 5 bed channels and a RMB-1565 for my atmos speakers which I am selling because I have a RMB-1575 I am switching to for Atmos duty.

Thanks!
Interesting post. I am just looking at upgrading my 603 S3's for a bit better 2 channel sound and I listened to some aria 936's the other day, albeit not on my equipment but on some nice Naim gear and NAC cabling, with various sources, and also with a MF integrated amp. I was hoping to like the focal 936 due to all reviews I've seen and the look etc. WEll, absolutely awful it was. shouty nasty cloudy midrange with not much sound stage to speak of. Afterwards even tried some 1038 Be's and they were the same but with a better sound stage. I wanted to turn them both down all the time.
Then tried some monitor audio silver 300 with the same gear and wanted to keep listening more but was the end of the day.
Haven't tried the 700 series yet but hoping (huh..) to like them.
Extremely amazed to find the focals so disappointing - was it just a case of not suiting my ears???

Wow. I've yet to hear the Focals, which is why I was asking. But they do get great reviews. I should be able to hear the Focals in the next couple months.

Hello! I would like some advise, someone in my area is selling two CM8 $700 and an ASW10CM $600 (see pics for reference) is this a good offer? Should I attempt to negotiate?

Thank you for your help!

Hi everyone,

I know there is a lot of talk in this thread about higher end stuff, which is great. But my question is related to the 600 series. I have the 601S3's for L/R and the LCR60 S3 for the Center. I wish to get a sub that can match this setup. Originally I was thinking a used ASW500...but I'm not sure that buying a relatively older sub makes sense in today's market. I'm not looking to overpower the B&W's just looking for something that matches it a little better. Do you have recommendations around the $2-300 price range?

Thanks in Advance!
