Listened to the Karat's and GLE series.

Canton supposedly uses water to forge their aluminum drivers in some manner to make them less bright and fatiguing, however from my listening they are still quite bright.

The Karat series sounds very laid back and neutral. In my opinion a very precise sounding speakers with a somewhat small soundstage. The GLE series in my opinion sounds nothing like the Karats at all. They are quite forward sounding with quite a big soundstage. These two speakers hardly sound like they are made by the same manufacturer.

I own a set of Chrono 507 and Chrono 502 Speakers for a small system I have in the living room, and I think they are great.

I'm running my amazing Canton Movie CD206 5.1 speakers (includes 5 X CD250's in high gloss black) through a Marantz SR7002. I couldn't be more pleased with this setup!

Nice set-up there.

BTW nice write-up by Kal Rubinson in Stereophile regarding the Reference 9 DC loudspeaker... anyone else heard them?

Too bad you americans don't have any experience of them.

Ergo 122DC's here, driven by Sony TA-F707ES integrated amp, redbook playback done by Pioneer Elite DV-48AV. Nothing harsh about these if set up correctly and driven by the right components. Years ago, I heard a pair of Ergo 90's in a nice listening room driven by some Conrad Johnson stuff, very open and involving presentation, so they are definitely helped by some real gear.

I'm American!!!!
Granted, we are hard to find.

Ergo 70 DC's.
About 12 years old.

Great tweeters. Very good bass for the size. Tight.

I'm looking to dump my cheap center channel.

I was wondering what you folks experience is with

Vento Center vs. Ergo center.

Oddly enough, the prices are not necessarily THAT different.

Any thoughts?

I haven't been here long time, so it's wow, great to see you guys be satisfied with cantons.

I still use my Canton Ergo 700DC in stereo system,( I'm 2 channels freak) , but I replaced NAD 320BEE to preamp NAD C160 and power NAD 216.
Well, what a change. Full and warm sound with better soundstage, nothing's harsh.
There is a little a lot of basses to my ergos, but overall I'm much more satisfied now.

Anyway, I can imagine some karats or ventos in my room::-)

I have a pair of Ergo 22 DC and a CM 402 Center that I've used for a least 5 years and were a decent pair. I recently upgraded to two pairs of Monitor Audio GS10's with a matching center. It's a night and day difference between the two. They worked well for me while they were with me though

I'm looking at very small speakers of a HT setup. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with the Canton Movie Series. Any thoughts versus other small HT speaker packages? They'll be used for HT and music.

Thanks.

Sorry Dean forgot I posted this Yes I love the MA's A LOT more but they did cost me a lot more too(get what you pay for ). MA's have way more detail and very transparent. They both have about the same sound dispersion but MA's surprisingly play low(bass) and aesthetically not even close(here is a pic of the MA's) . Overall there just isn't any comparison but like I said before the Canton's worked well while I had them.

I am stationed in Ramstein Germany. I bought the Ergo 655 CM Center Channel and the Chrono 509 DC Front Towers. I originally was going to buy the Ergo RC-L mainly because of the discounted price. I also bought a SVS 20-39 Plus subwoofer from this forum. My home theater is all torn apart at the moment and I still have to pick up the speakers from Saturn. (Germany's version of Best Buy)

I will Bi-Amp the two front towers and now save a little more for the rear surrounds.

Any questions on pricing for your speakers, shoot me a PM. I can find out the pricing here versus Stateside prices.

Like others, I think the bass isn't a strong point of Mid-end model Cantons, more focus on the attention to clarity and detail seems to be key. Also the build and look of the speaker is absolutely top rate. I figured the SVS will cover most of the bass for my Cantons.

Now, I just have to wait for everything to come in and then I can audition some movies on everything. Will keep you all posted since I can't find anyone on the forums that own the Chrono 509 DC.

Cheers!

Long time.
I tend to like a brighter speaker, and these are the bees knees for me.

I have to tell you that it is a very difficult thing I do putting these Cantons up for purchase. I have owned them all since they were new in the 80s. For my ears, these are the most versatile speakers I have ever owned. When combined with the right subwoofer and configured with one another, or in a 7.1 environment, there is no truer sound.

Audio in this age, uses lots of trickery to make the mind believe that it hears something in finer detail and dimensional quality. The nano-wizards can do amazing things for sure but, back in the day, these Canton CT-1000s were created to transfer the exact audio from the medium with PURITY and without affectation or aberration.

For those of you who have an appreciation for my addiction to Cantons and the magic they produce, you might find this an special opportunity.

I have to start to downsize my life and learn to live smaller. We all will eventually but I am being devastated by the mismanagement of America in every aspect of my life and need to shed some of my material possessions.

I have a set of CT-1000s in the polished mahogany cabinets, a set of Quinto 510s in Walnut cabinets and a set of Quinto 530s in Walnut cabinets. I have a set of Fonums in black that I am going to hold onto unless someone makes me a good offer.

All of these speakers sound like new. There are the usual fine surface scratches from moving them to clean and a small ding or do on the CTs from careless movers over the years...other than that, these Cantons look and perform excellent.

In Europe, there is still a rave and high regard for these vintage Cantons made in WEST Germany when the east was occupied by the Soviets. I te CT1000s are selling for between 300-500 euro or 500 and 700 US.

I haven't weighed these but they are not light and my guess is 30 pounds plus. I will try to obtain the exact weight if I can so the only variable will be shipping costs or you can arrange to have them shipped by freight so you know what your exact costs will be.

I will sell all 3 sets, as a package for 850.00. The Quintos are in the original manufacturers boxes as they were shipped to the dealer. The CTs are in extra heavy dish barrel boxes as I purchased them off the showroom floor and there were no boxes.

This is a first time offer here as I know there are many Canton enthusiasts
on the AV forum. If they do not sell within a reasonable time, I am posting them on Ebay

Well, my new Ergo 655 CM finally came in. Figured I would upload some pics to show you how it looks. I have the Chrono 509 DC mains on order, should be here sometime this week. (I'll post those up when they come in) and 1 pair of Chrono 501s are on order)

I have also included a size comparison between my old Energy XL-C Center Channel.

Canton Ergo 655 CM Specifications: 110/160 Watt, 87.9dB, 26-40,000Hz and 10.5kg

I am powering these with the Denon 3808ci, on the look out for a nice pre-amp to assist with greater power. I am also using a SVS 20-39 Plus Sub.

I own a pair of GLE 409
With a pair of GLE 401 for the rear, 405 Center and one of the subs, I forget the model number.

Very good sound. I listened to them at a store that specialized in selling Canton in Montreal.

I liked them better then the Klipsch which was my second choice during my shopping.

Finally got my Chrono 509 DCs in. Excellent packaging by Canton. Speakers look fantastic! I started breaking them in today and even though they are new, they sound very nice. My 501s should be in sometime next week and still waiting on my SVS Sub. I think I will go ahead and pick up the Ergo 202s for the side surround and use the 501 as the back rear surrounds.

I included some pics of the 509 DC. Sorry about the wire mess, I still have a ways to go to clean everything up when the remaining speakers get here.
