AVR’s are pretty much all about bells and whistles so that is going to be part of the Avr package no matter what.
I would probably er on the side of more watts as a power supply that doesn’t struggle is going to perform better and last longer.
As the saying goes, buy once cry once. I’d pay a little more now so you aren’t paying even more down the road.

Used is hit or miss. If price is good and somewhat newer it might be a workable idea. It is a risk.

Mike,

What are you using for input? Turntable, streamer, etc? What volume do you use in the small room? That certainly helps with suggestions.

Spoiler!

Input will be game systems and just the smaller TV in the room. Loudness is all dependent on who is in there. With me then louder but not ear screeching. The significant other, more mellow.im sure.

I understand for what I am connecting to it anything will work. That's actually why I don't need much of anything when it comes to fanciness. What I need is a properly powered and fitted ave for the speakers I will be running. I do not want the Chrono sl to be underpowered if that means they will not sound as well. Thats all

Hi Peeps, I have been spending a few months researching brands for 100% home theatre use and I have come across Canton. The CANTON: CHRONO SL 586 DC fronts, CANTON: CHRONO SL 526 rears, CANTON: CHRONO SL 556 centre, not sure on the sub yet and probs a set of CANTON: AR-400 for front heights. Has any of you guys experienced Canton from more of a movie point of view?

Cheers

I use Canton Vento 876 towers for my L/R, Vento 826 at center and a pair of Chrono 502.2 for surrounds and love it for both movies and music.

I don't know about the Chrono SL series, but the Vento series I have has an impedance curve that dips below 4 ohms. The requires an amp section that can deliver a lot of current. I have an outboard power amp with dual 1.2 kVa toroidal transformers that fits that requirement nicely. I do have a large room to fill which it does at concert levels if desired (think Led Zeppelin). I never tried them with the AVR amps.

If you're running the Canon SL-516.2s with a sub as you noted earlier and have them crossed over at 80Hz or higher, any Yamaha or Denon AV receiver rated at 75-80w or more will do just fine. I've had better success with Yamaha, but unless you're chasing bells and whistles, which you aren't in this case, there should be minimal difference.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone, I have the opportunity to get a Denon x2100w for 200 so I may jump on that. If not I will prolly go with a Yamaha v485 or 585. I appreciate everything.

Hello, just sharing my experiences with my new Canton Vento 826.0. After saving up a reasonable amount to spend on good speakers, I was researching everything in the $600-800 usd range. Due to the pandemic, I had to rely on online reviews/information. My final list had Q Acoustics 3030i, Elac reference, b&w 607, Triangle BR03, and Kef LS50. I was looking for warm speakers with good low end. And then someone on reddit recommended the canton vento 826.0 which were being sold for $600 on A4L, and was an older model, a couple years old, with a $1500 msrp. Information on these speakers were nigh impossible to find in english save for the occasional post on avsforums and a couple google translated reviews. But hell they used to be $1500 speakers and looked amazing in white, so I pulled the trigger. How to describe these speakers. They sounded just dead and flat out of the box. But after half an hour or so, they started warming up. They have amazing bass, which I loved instantly, but they also had this forward sound signature like Klipsch horn tweeters (but not as pronounced), which I thought I would really dislike but I forgot about it after a day. I initially thought the speakers were on the bright side (which I really hate, and the main reason why I passed on the Kefs) but after several days of really listening, I came to the conclusion that the speakers were not bright (bright speakers like my sony cs5 hurt my ears) but the ceramic tweeter on the speakers were just incredibly accurate. These speakers are quite exceptional speakers, and the fact that I got them for $600 is just a steal. Very happy with this purchase.

Though I do always wonder how these compare to the buchardt s300 (since they have similar msrp).

My wife bought a new entertainment center for a smoking deal at Costco, last one, $400. If you can’t tell she is into Farmhouse decorating. Got it all disassembled and reassembled without a hitch, yahoo. Canton Vento 890.2 DC Towers and 866.2 Center. Other equipment in Sig. One sub behind the electric fireplace the other in the opposite corner.

I don't think you will find any speaker stands with holes in the same position as the Canton's. Most all speaker stands I have seen do not have any mounting holes at all. A lot of folks use blu- tack to hold them on pretty securely.

Thanks for getting back to me, I will try Blu-tack. Does anyone have the expensive canton stands, do they seem worth the extra $$?

If I’m paying around $500 for stands for my Cantons I’m just buying Solidsteel SS-6 stands not canton branded ones.

I’m actually using $300 Focal stands from my 906 Aria’s with my Canton Ref 9.2’s and even those are over priced for what they are, no way I’m paying even more for Canton stands that don’t look any better built.

You could easily make a template of the holes on the speakers and drill two holes on the top plates of whatever stands you come up with. I’ve got a couple metal Wharfdale stands that would work perfectly for this if I felt it necessary to secure speakers to them.
Could do the same thing with the all wood stands.

I like the template idea, I am going to try that. The solidsteel stands you mentioned look excellent as well, still pricey but better value than the Canton.

I have seen open box deals on the Solidsteel SS stands for around $300 and you never know what you can find on the various audio classifieds on the cheap.

I have a couple pairs of these Wharfdale ST-1 stands that I found on sale new for $199 pr. Like most stands they still seems over priced for what you get but they aren’t a bad metal stand in form and function.

I am contemplating pulling a trigger on the same Reference 9.2s you have. I've done some research, but it is still a difficult decision knowing that I can't audition those and Canton does not even have dealership network in the U.S. if something goes wrong.

Do you have any updates on your listening experience since last time you shared it?

Any other happy owners here who would like to share a few thoughts?

Thanks!

I’m still enjoying them and have no plans to upgrade, but I also have 5 other pairs of Cantons besides the 9.2’s so I’m already pretty well invested in the canton sound. I’m also not the most critical listener and don’t have a lot of experience with a bunch of different speaker brands like a lot of folks here do, so I’m probably not the best of speaker judges.

I have the Canton Chrono SL 536.2 downstairs in my basement. I am running them through an Arcam avr380, those are the only speakers I have hooked up to that reciever at the moment. I may decide to get a sub at some point but honestly the system sounds great for now.

Upstairs in my home theater I have a yamaha 3050 with Martin Logan motion 40 front r/l with a motion 30 center. I have motion 4's on the wall for surround. A svs-sb1000 finishes out that system.

The Canton/Martin Logan sound comparison is a tough one. They both sound excellent when I compare them in stereo direct. I have never run the ML speakers with the Arcam reciever so I am not sure if they would sound that much different then they do currently with the Yamaha. The suprising thing to me was how much sound came out of the small Canton bookshelf size and how much detail. Since the Canton speakers are only a few weeks old, I need a little more time listening to them to see which speaker becomes my favorite.

Of course its a crazy thing with A4l's apparently horrible return policy, so that combined with towers shipping cost and returning would pretty much not be an option.

However, I am super confused, the two units that are most interesting to me at the moment are the Reference 5 if it ever comes back in stock, though a bit expensive. Or, the really nicely priced 876.2

Of course, there are also some nice looking JBL speakers for like 200 dollars out and around so...obviously things can be cheaped out on in ways that I do not understand. All the specs seem to be great, but the pricing is just really confusing me and I feel I must be missing something. Combined with no way to test them out and it's a real brick wall. (of course, if they were MSRP I wouldn't even have looked back at them again, given the no testing and very very few English reviews)

Anybody have some information I should consider, or links to some good reviews etc? Even in German, Japanese etc with some Google translation would be great...
I'm interested in reading your impressions of the kef against the focal

Hey guys! I've got $2,500 to spend on a pair of floorstanding speakers and a receiver. I see a pretty solid deal on the Chrono SL-596.2, $999 each and a free center channel. While a 50% discount sounds like an amazing deal, I need a basis for comparison. Can someone tell me how the Chrono SL-596.2's compare to other floorstanding speakers that are priced at $999, such as the KEF Q950s?

I really want to love and buy these speakers, I just need a bit of convincing because I've never heard of the brand lol.

Thanks to anyone who responds!

Not sure on how they compare but I have that setup. They sound great. I got the same deal about a month ago
