I am considering this system. I just recently purchased the Onkyo 777 reciever. I now need to upgrade my speakers to an equivalant quality level. I have an equal interest in music reproduction and movie sound field.

What do you guys think about this system? Any other recommendations in the $2000- $3000 price range?

Thanks for the help.

Same here. I upgraded from AT 250's to the 350's all I can say is WOW. I paid 1697 with all Peds and 1 sub from Onecall. Well worth it.

I also have just gotten in the 350THX system, with the sub upgraded to the 15" 374PBM, and an extra set of dipole surrounds. I will be driving them with the Lexicon MC1 and seven (7) Marantz MA500 Monoblocks. Atlantic Technologies says the 15" sub is be a better overall match for the 350 system. Incidentally, the only difference between the 370THX and 350THX system is the 15" versus 12" sub. I haven't gotten my Pre/Pro yet, but when I do, I will post let you know how they sound.

The "$1697 with peds" special on onecall.com is no longer. The 350THX system was upgraded by Atlantic Technologies (at least the model numbers of the individual speakers have changed), and the price was only on the "older" speakers. They have a $1797 special for a single 12" sub, no pedestals. The dual 12" sub with all peds is now $2199.

As an alternate source, Tom Young of CinemaSource.com says he will beat onecall's price by $100. I bought mine from Tom. The sub upgrade cost me $694. The extra surrounds were $349. two front and four rear stands set me back $300. Total cost of the speaker system, LCR, Sides, Rears, 15" sub, all pedestals is $3042.

FYI, the "new" 350 THX system model numbers for the individual speakers are:
- 351LR is now 350LR
- 352PBM is now 350PBM
- 353C is now 350C
- 354SR is now 350SR

I did so much research and listening, before coming to the conclusion that this speaker system is far superior to anything else in its price range. I looked and listened to M&K, B&W, NHT and AT's 270THX systems. The only thing I will say is that you need to go listen to all the different speakers. My heart was set on a different system until I heard the AT's. I was only able to demo the 370THX system, but I knew it was almost the same system.

I live in Edison and belong to Metuchen Country Club. I code everything from legacy applications(cobol, assembler) to web stuff(pearl, java) for AT&T.
I am teeing up for the first time this year tomorrow. Balls in the air at Noon. I am pumped. Once the golf season starts, I get out of my condo and HT mode and into being outside and away from my puter and HDTV.

Baimo,
I've heard comments that these are great for movie soundtracks, but only OK? for music. Why would someone say that? What is your opinion concerning these speakers and music?

Buddy,
thanks for the tip on Cinemasource. What is your opinion concerning music through these speakers.

Thanks
Scott

Scott,
I ahve heard the same thing. People claim that THX is designed to show off movies not music. The AT website addresses some of this concern.
As far as I am concerned , they sound awesome for both music and movies.
However, this is the best audio system I ever had, so I do not have much else to compare it to. And honestly I use my sound system for movies/tv aboit 95% of the time.
I do not consider myself an audiophile, but I am very proud of this system.

Scott,

I am certainly not what you would call an "audiophile", but definately have an opinion about what speakers should sound like. I can express it best by paraphrasing a review I read in one of the magazines (not sure which one).

When listening to the 350THX speakers, I find myself getting absorbed in the music I am listening to, and forget that I am trying to evaluate the speakers. With many other speakers, I am drawn to the sound of the speakers themselves, which probably indicates some flaw, or at least something about the speakers that gets my attention.

I think the whole point of listening to music or watching a movie is to enjoy the presentation, and to get "lost" in the effect. I guess I would have to say they are very well balanced, easy to listen to, and envelope me with the sound. Like I said, I am no audiophile, so I don't know if what I am saying makes any sense, but that is my judgement, and is why I like these speakers so much.

thanks guys for the tips. i ordered them today from cinemasource as tipped by Buddy.

The price for the full system (both subs and all pedestals) was $2499. Onecall wanted $2680. I also saved $110 on the shipping since NH is closer than WA to SC.

Delivered to my door for $2560. Now, I just wait in anticipation.

Equipment List:
Toshiba TW56X81
Toshiba SD5109
Onkyo TX-SR777
Atlantic Tech 350THX Speakers (soon)
