I heard at CES that many companies were demoing DVD/CD players capable of playing CD's encoded in the MP3 format - essentially CD-Rs with MP3 files copied onto them. Does anyone know if any of these are anything but vaporware? The idea of one disc playing 10 hours of audio appeals to me!

You can pick up an APEX 600 from Circuit City for less than $200 and it will play MP3 CD's. Check out http://www.nerd-out.com/apex/

Cool! I think I'll pick one up this week - the idea of storing my entire music collection on 30 or so CD-Rs gives me tingles! Now if only someone made an in-car cd changer that would read MP3...
