I've been planning to buy the PSB's (Silver mains, C5 center, 3i sub & alpha surrounds) primarily for music, but also thinking (hoping?) this would be a reasonably capable HT system. But with a couple of teenagers and a wife who considers all music to be background, I'm now thinking that I should reverse my priorities and look for an excellent HT system which is at least reasonably good at music. Based on what I've read, the 270THX seems to meet the first requirement, and at a significantly lower cost than the PSB's. In addition, I might be able to save some bucks on the receiver, since it appears the AT's are a somewhat easier load (if I'm wrong please let me know!). The savings would allow me to upgrade our 31" TV to a HT-size RPTV without breaking the bank. My only fear is that the the AT's will be a major disappointment for music listening primarily classical and jazz).

Opinions regarding the quality of MUSIC reproduction with the 270's would be greatly appreciated. Are the 370's noticeably better in this respect?

Thanks!

I've got AT 250 speakers and they're
quite similar. This general design
is just superior for soundtracks!
I listen to jazz and R&B mostly and
for music my speakers are above average for sure. They will play at
extreme volume levels if so pushed
with a clean amp.If you're so unsure
you've got to go hear them in person.
I do not use the AT sub though,I have
Paradigm sub.I highly recommend AT
for theater.For music I'm quite satisfied,but.....

Brian or Desi or whomever,
Take a look at the on-line only AT350THX-ultra system at www.onecall.com . For a few extra bucks it blows away the 270THX-Select system and is almost the same(with the exception of the sub) as the higher priced 370thx-ultra.
I went through the same thought process and ending up buying the 350thx from onecall with all stands and one sub for $2200.
