Hey guys don’t know if this will go anywhere, but I’ve always really liked jbl products, and I recently have been thinking with their new link capabilities the Bluetooth speakers have that it would be cool if they made a dedicated jbl mini sub that could link with their BT speakers. Since this is a dedicated jbl thread I was wondering if anybody knew how one might get people on board with making a substantial enough product recommendation from jbl consumers to possibly swing them into considering something like that. I’m not talking like rock your world bass but I’ve seen some pretty cool mini subs that work really well when people who know what their doing put them together and I think people would totally be on board with the idea if it produced good audible bass. It could really solve the issue the passive radiators have with the bass roll off at high volumes. Just a thought

It would be nice if there were a whole line of BT subs, not just for the smaller portable BT gear, but for plug and play anywhere in a big room. I'm not holding my breath, but you never know...

Overall, the pickings for BT subs is slim, and even companies that one might think would pursue this obvious market are at best offering underpowered, small driver units. Curiously, purchasers of these units are generally very happy with them, maybe due to the fact that they previously had no sub at all.

JBL/Harman's owner, Samsung, has a line of wireless subs, so the technology exists in some form within the corporate conglomerate. Whether Samsung will allow other brands to use the corporate IP or develop their own is an open question.

You could ask this question over at Lansing Heritage to see if anyone there has any information.

Posted some JBL 4429 Studio Monitor's for sale in the audio gear classifieds for a great price! They sound very nice and are part of the Synthesis line of speakers. At $2100 (normal street price is $4k-5k), they are an incredible bargain.

https://www.avsforum.com/forum/209-audio-gear/3110010-jbl-4429-studio-monitors-stereo-speakers-columbia-sc-2100-a.html

If anyone is near Columbia, SC and just wants to listen to them, they are welcome even if they don't want to purchase (just need to have an established account here and send me a PM). I hate to sell them, but have too many projects going and want the money for other stuff.

I'm not sure if I am so impressed with that setup that I have blown a logic circuit... or if that setup is crazy, over the top, unnecessary.

Seriously... Is that in your house?

Anyone still running JBL S312 speakers? What amp are you using for them? I am looking at getting another set of JBL S36 speakers to mount on my rear wall expanding my setup to 7.1.4. With my receiver to do that I will need to add an external amplifier, might as well power the towers. Thought I would get some impressions of others. I am considering everything from used to new and 100watt per channel on up. Rest of my equipment is listed in my signature. I am about 80/20 movie/music.

7.3.4 Setup---TV: LG OLED 65B7A, Receiver: Marantz SR-6012, External 2-channel amplifier: Marantz MM7025 (Front Towers), Blu-Ray Player: LG UBK90, Fronts: JBL S312, Center: JBL S-Center, Surrounds: JBL S38, Surround Backs: JBL S36 ,Top: JBL S36 (4), Subwoofer: 2 PSA S3000i and one PSA XS-30se

Not familiar with your AVR. I was able to choose between a 7.2.4 front preout or a surround rear preout. Within the speaker system selection in the Pioneer AVR. When I replaced my Pioneer SC1222 with the Pioneer Elite SC97. I used/repurposed my SC1222 to amplify my JBL front left and right speakers. The SC97 amplifies all the other JBL speakers and handles all the audio signal processing for ALL the speakers in a 7.2.4 speaker system.

Good luck.

It is fully assignable. That is why I figured since I will need external amplification to get full 11 channels I might as well power the towers. I have read other forums with the receiver and many are using a 7 channel amp for the base level and the receiver for the Atmos. That is still an option with the Outlaw 7000x or the Monolith X7. Overall I am happy with what I have powering the 9 channels via the receiver so I probably don't need external amplification on all the speakers, just the two additional ones. I could go cheap with a Russound or Audiosource 50watt x2 to power the rear surrounds. I thought I could pursue quality for the towers in the price range of the Outlaw and Monolith. In the two channel field I was considering spending less and getting monoblocks from Outlaw or Monolith and get 200watt per channel for the towers or be in the same price range of the 7 channels and get a Emotiva XPA-2 with 300watts per channel. Maybe I should be looking on ebay for a used one for certain characteristics. Should I really consider spending more on a different brand amp like Parasound or PS Audio? I just would like fellow S312 owners/previous owners opinions on what brought out the best that the S312 has to offer.

Hey guys, I currently have the Studio 530's in my living room for 50% music/ 50% HT mated to a yamaha RX-V667 AVR. The matching 520C center channel is currently on sale for 150, and wanted some advice on if its worth it to pull the trigger? I've read some mixed reviews about it, but wanted to hear some opinions? If this center isn't good, what would you recommend to match the Studio 530's?

With 530s for left and right, the 520 is as good a match as you’re going to get. If you’re pleased with the 530s, then you’ll be pleased with the 520 as center.

It seems as though the 520C becomes mismatched when you combine it with the 580 or 590. It just can't keep up with the larger towers in the lineup.

I am using a 235C with 590s, and it works very well. I initially had a smaller center, and had difficulty hearing dialog. Yea, I know the 235C is not a perfect match, but it's large and moves lots of air, and most people can't hear the mismatch difference as the center is just for dialog. This is a topic that comes up frequently on this thread. If you search back through the thread, you will find several different center speaker comparisons.

Yeah I used to mix my speakers all the time and I never noticed a difference in sound quality, but then again I'm %98 movie watcher so I most likely would never heard a difference anyway.

That is especially true if you are streaming movies or music. I have never heard of a streaming service that doesn't use heavy compression, and that results in a lossy audio stream as well as the video stream.

For most of us, the key is to be happy with our systems. While "happy" does not always mean "satisfied," it means that we can enjoy what we have rather than lamenting the fact that we don't have something else. If you're happy with a 235C, then enjoy!

I remember cobbling together different speakers to make my first 5.0 Dolby Surround system to mate up with my bargain Technics surround receiver! The center was just a small speaker on its side under the TV, but I had surround sound and was in heaven. Happy! Eventually I bought a sub on clearance at Highland Appliance (long out of business), and I didn't realize until I got it home that I needed a separate amp to drive it. Eventually, I got an old Soundcraftsmen amp and real 5.1 though, so Happy!

I've been through seven systems since then, finally getting to a real all JBL matched system around the fourth one, then to a high end Synthesis set up at the sixth, and now with an M2 set up. I was happy with every one on of them. It seems I'm both happy and satisfied with this one.

Bear in mind from my first Electrophonic stereo in 1965 until getting the M2 set up in 2018, 53 years passed! You're no doubt father along in the arc of your happy journey than I was for most of my life. The 590 truly outperforms anything I had until my early fifties. Enjoy

Looking for a 904Ti for my PC600

Hey, long time following this thread, but first time posting here. I am trying to complete my JBL Performance Series set but I am in need of a 904Ti driver for my center channel as the one in the one I have is distorting badly at certain frequencies and lower volumes. Anyone here has/knows where to get one?

It's the last piece I need after removing the burned out plate amps from the PS1400 and now running them separately in a dual SW setup with a Behringer amp fed by my Denon AVR. Got 4 PT800s, 2 passive PS1400s, 1 PC600 center channel with a damaged midrange driver.

Thanks!

Are you certain it’s the driver? Could be a crossover problem.

You have two ways to find out.

Remove the 904Ti from the PC600 and another from a PT800. Put the questionable driver in the PT800 to see if it exhibits the same distortion. If it doesn’t, put the good driver in the PC600 to see if it distorts.

I think you can figure out the rest.

Remove the 904Ti from the PC600 and another from a PT800. Put the questionable driver in the PT800 to see if it exhibits the same distortion. If it doesn’t, put the good driver in the PC600 to see if it distorts.

I think you can figure out the rest.
Thanks for the reply, yeah I did exactly that. I took the driver off and tried it with one of the PT800 and found the same issue, also tried full range signal (piano - Minute Waltz - and at very low volume) and found the same thing, also noticed a strange halo-like marking on the driver, not sure if someone just poked it very hard and damaged it or somehow got enough power into it to damage it like that, most likely the former.

Anyways, I was able to find someone willing to sell me one so I should be all set with my request

That's a shame. That 904Ti is a very nice driver. I hate to see one fail or be damaged.

Good luck with your system. The LE14H-3 is also a great driver, and your external sub amps are bound to be better than the built-in ones which not only failed but would get into weird auto-on/auto/off fits from time to time. The 14" subwoofer deserves better treatment than that.

I remember seeing and drooling over that Performance line system in a couple of JBL PDFs I saw in college...and wondering who owned them.

At one time (before we moved) I had a bad-ass Performance Series surround music only set up:
  • 4 PT800/PS1400 towers
  • 1 PC600 center
  • 4 HTPS400 subwoofers
  • 1 Performance Series AV2 Digital Surround Processor
  • 1 Performance Series AVA-7 Amplifier

The HTPS400 subs handled everything below 50Hz, giving the PS1400 units plenty of room to stretch out, and the sound, especially on 5.1 DTS Surround, DVD-A, and SACD discs was otherworldly. I truly miss that system.

Attached is a picture the front stage of that system.
