I have A21 and have it maxed out. Mine calls that setting the “THX level,” both in the manual and next to the gain on the rear of the unit.

Exciting. I'd like to hear your impressions when you have a chance. What speakers will you be using?

I will use a set of Kef LS50's and use a Marantz ND8006 to stream music. I have not decided what turntable to purchase yet.

Like I posted originally, all will go into a new shop w/mancave that is being finished now. It will be a few more weeks until I can get in and set it all up. In our home I currently have a Marantz NR1609 powering a 3.1 system with 3 LS50's + 10" sub for AV duty. I think the 50 w/ch of the Marantz are a little weak for the LS50's.

Growing up in the early '70's and going to many concerts my hearing at the top end is dropping off so I enjoy the clear/brightness of the LS50's. I can't wait to hear them combined with the Parasound setup.

I will update when the mancave is up and running.

Great setup. I recently got into audio about 6-8 moths ago and ended up with KEF R3's and Dual Rythmik subs driven by a Yamaha A2080 AVR. My next upgrade will be better amplification hence my interest in the Parasound amps/integrated amps. I'm most likely going to get the Arcam SA30 integrated amp when it comes out this fall (Dirac room correction, MQA, 120W class G) but am still interested in Parasound too.

I can relate to the upper freqs. I have the 8-10K plus hearing loss notch courtesy of the USMC rifle range and training and being in aviation maintenance for the last 20 or so years. Plus a little of everpresent tinnitus. :-)

I have to say, even with all that I absolutely love what I hear from my R3's, even what I hear of the upper freqs sound magic and clear to me. Mid range is magic, holographic image... It crosses my mind to try LS50's plus subs for the increased concentration of the midrange and treble. It's a fun journey!

Have fun getting setup!

Anyone is using parasound A21+ or JC 5 to power Martin Logan renaissance 15A ?
Can 500 watts to 4 ohms on A21+ vs 600 watts 4 ohms make any difference
Currently I have P6 and A21+ combo

Based solely on power, the 500 to 600 is .6 dB. There may be other factors though since the 1'st watt is the most important one.

I upgraded from an ADCOM GFA5500 (350W @ 4 ohms) to a Parasound JC5 (600W @ 4 ohms) driving my Martin Logan Quest Z ESL speakers and noticed a significant improvement. As others have mentioned, the point isn't to make them louder, but to drive a low-impedance load with a well-damped, low source impedance amplifier. In my opinion the lower output impedance of the JC5 is significant, and this would apply to a comparison against the A21+; more output transistors in the JC5.

I haven't personally tried the A21+, although it was a consideration when I decided to go for the JC5. Reading online and Youtube reviews they say the A21+ is good, but the JC5 is better. Unfortunately it isn't practical to run these experiments yourself.

Yes, but it is in need of an update. There's plenty of rumors suggesting that one is coming soon, but I haven't heard anything concrete yet. In particular I'd love to see an updated volume control; the one in the P6 is wonderful.

This is a slow-moving forum overall, and the owners threads can be particularly slow. Just be patient.

Can anyone tell me the years the a21 was made? Not the a21+, just the regular one.

I bought mine on Ebay now selling in Dallas and people are asking the age. I have no idea how old. Can i find out with the S/N?

If you're the original owner and know when you bought it, that's probably a pretty good estimate of the age. Parasound can probably tell you the manufacturing date (or close to it) if you send them the serial number.

I think I bought my A51 late 2002, the A51 probably came out the same time as A21?

It’s still going strong!

Hello, Parasound peeps!

Putting together a home theater system for my new house currently being built and just picked up an A51 & A21 from a forum member.

Only doing a 5.2 setup and using the A51 for that.

Energy RC-70’s up front and Energy RC-LCR for center.

Undecided on rears as I have a pair of RC-10’s NIB but I think I want to to do towers for the rear as I have tons of room.

Owned a Parasound back in 2001 when I worked at TheGoodGuys! And got sick accommodation pricing. Sold it after a year, though.

I have been using a 2205 for about 20 years without any problems.
Recently I noticed that the stereo image from my front left/right speakers had drifted to the left.
I adjusted the amplifier gain for the channel about 1/4 turn and that solved the problem.

However when I turned on the amplifier the next day, the image had shifted to the right, so I restored the channel gain.
A few hours later I noticed that the image had shifted back to the left again.

Does anyone have a suggestion for what might be causing this?

After further investigation I discovered that the right front speaker had a disconnected driver. I think this created an unusual load for the amplifier. Fortunately it should not be too difficult to repair. I hope my amplifier won’t need to be repaired as well.

Hi there peeps,

WAFWarrior/Mr. Schram

Have enjoyed my Parasound A52 for many years with my Def Tech 7002 and CLR 2500. And the A52 is plenty and amazing with them on music and movies. Thinking very seriously after listening to the Goldenear Triton One.R and Triton Ref Center Channel to upgrade in a new 18 by 15 living room in a new house ..I would imagine that my existing A52 should have no problems running the new tritons to nice levels as I don’t want to immediately have to buy a new larger Para amp .. (maybe someday). Is this accurate, ? as I know the Tritons while designed by Mr Gross are not exactly the same as the old BP series but they share similar tonal characteristics (powered built in subs etc) and they seem to also be an easy load on the amp from what I understand ... Any further insight or info would be appreciated ..By the way Richard is a great guy and helped me with info when I first upgraded to the Parasound A52 almost 8 years ago.. going from a nice Yamaha receiver ...it’s an amazing external amp
and then some (now using a Yamaha AV preamp stage). Thanks Richard and WAFWarrior sirs!!

Mike

Ok so is the sound going to be any diffrent other then that it raices the volume 6db. Its not going to be more power full then normal..? Becouse if i have it at +6db i take that down anyway in the reciver so it matces the rest of my speakers in volume.
Or is it best to crank it up to full and use al its power and fix volume in my reciver..?

When you set it to the "Normal/THX" setting (half-way), the amp will perform to the standards of THX Certification. THX certification establishes a rigorous set of industry standards for audio reproduction. The certification means that the sound coming out of your sound system is as the audio engineer intended while he was recording and mixing it. With other settings, the amp will not perform to THX standards. IMO, I can't see any reason not to set it that way, and adjust volume at your receiver.

Ok thanks for explaining very appriciat il set it halfway then. Thanx again..🙂👍
