I have finally decided to upgrade my projector to support 4K/HDR and found out the passthrough on the AV8801 really isn't a passthrough for this material now through both trial and error and this forum. I love my 8801. Not really wanting to update it yet. So, stupid question, what options do I have to get audio from my Xbox One X to the 8801 and still have my Xbox signal go to the projector? Is the HD Fury the answer? I only use my Xbox in here for what it's worth. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hey all, the remote has become dysfunctional. Where is the best place I can obtain a replacement? Are there suitable aftermarket RC's for less money that perform well for the av8801? Where is the best place to purchase those?

Thank-you JD. I just ordered the 650 since the OEM remote was back ordered.

AV8801 -- analog output

Greetings everyone! I have an AV8801 and am about to integrate a tape deck into my system. The AV8801 (thankfully!) has one analog output ("Media Player") I will connect to the tape deck's Rec Input, so I can record things like records, etc.

My question is, does anyone know if signals going to this output are subject to the unit's signal processing before going there? Or was Marantz savvy enough to shunt signals to this Output before they undergo Audyssey, etc.?

i.e., ideally analog signals that come from, say, my turntable will go to the "Media Player" analog output before the unit converts them to digital, washes them with all the sound processing, and so on. Or, if it must Analog-to-Digital convert everything that comes in, at least it sends the signal there for Digital-to-Analog before it goes through all the other processing goodies.

Does anyone know how Marantz / the AV8801 handles this? Is anyone using this output for a similar purpose? My impression is that most (quality) pre-amps have always done this properly -- signals went to the Rec Out outputs before processing, etc. so they weren't colored by, say, tone controls -- but in this new generation of "home theater" pre-pros, I worry things might work differently.

What d'ya all think, and/or know, and/or speculate??

AFAIK, pre-processing as they also go to the Zone 2 pre-outs as well. Must be analog input though to get analog output.

I bought an used AV8801 but the pre-outs aren't working. RCA and XLR.

When a send an audio signal by analog RCA (CD input) i can get sound on the pre-outs. But HDMI i get vídeo but no sound. Also the device's test tone don't produces any sound. Neither Audyssey calibration.

Any ideas? I reseted the device but didn't help.

Do at least 4-5 microprocessor resets in a row. If still no joy, return to seller.

Been 2 months and still waiting for a "backordered" video board.... kind of doubting I will ever get it.

For anyone else out there, be advised, getting parts may be difficult for this unit.

Not surprising as this model is now 5 years old and as of next spring will have been superseded by two newer models.

As an owner of one of these, but speaking more generally about the A/V industry, shouldn't one expect to be able to procure repair parts for a top-of-the-line unit that sold for $3500 only 4 to 5 years later? Just sayin'.....

Should, yes ... but not likely much longer as mfr's focus is on selling more current models.

Understood. But it would seem that a decent manufacturer would feel some moral obligation to provide parts for, I don't know, 5 to 7 years or more. Not for a $100 throwaway item, sure. But for a very expensive piece of equipment like this, it seems morally wrong to not provide parts to enable the repair of a unit like this. Not to mention, you could buy these brand new, AND they were a current item as recently as January of 2015. So someone might own one of these, and it could be as little as 3 years old. And no parts? Criminal, in my mind.
Again, just sayin'.....

In my opinion just one model. 8802 and 8802a for me are the same. And 8805 is not for sale yet.

I agree @jdsmoothie . My unit has audio problems (no audio tone, no hdmi audio) and one more reason to send it back to the seller.

Especially since it seems this is a fairly common failure of these units.... maybe true with all brands.

Given a static charge or power surge thru the HDMI ports can fry the processor in a $4K unit, seems they should make more of an effort to create more spare boards or make the board more easily repairable (e.g. socketed processor chipsets). I've read, from a few techs that work on them, that other brands are more serviceable (at the electronics level).

What do you think it could be? DOes it need to be sent in for repair.
I was wondering if you ever got this issue resolved. I am starting to have the same problem. Unfortunately, my AV is just out of warranty. Very frustrated at this point. Any information is greatly appreciated!

When you identify a post of a problem similar to your own, you're best served following the OP's string of posts to determine if they posted a resolution or not, in this case, he did ....

Also note, that if after trying the microprocessor reset (p. 186 Owner's manual) you still require warranty repair, if you purchased the AVP with a credit card, many card issuers will add an extra 1-2 years to the mfr's 3 year warranty so check with your card issuer to see if this is a feature of your card.

Reminds me of an issue I had with a Miller Kreisel Subwoofer. It was 25 plus years old. A serious hum started to develop. I had no idea if M&K was even still in business. So I called California and someone answered the phone . This was a little bit before all the China counterfeiting and Kens decision to pull the plug on the company ... Anyway. I told the M&K salesperson my issue. He explained the way to remove the amp from the speaker and shipping instructions ..... So I shipped it back to them .. I was tickled that it could still be fixed ! .... THEN,in a couple weeks, my repaired board/amplifier shows up .....FREE . They even paid the shipping back ... That stuff just don't happen anymore ..

Nope.... still waiting. They told me in December it was shipping 12/28... never did. Going to contact them again.

This experience has taught me to avoid Marantz products in the future. You drop $4K on a AVP, a few years go by and you have a problem... you have a very expensive boat anchor.
