Then check your HTPC sound settings as the AVR can only play what it receives. If the HTPC is the only source with the issue ... the HTPC is the problem.

That's impossible - in order for audio to work with a computer, it must be using a sound card. Mine is built into my motherboard and is Realtek. Your sound card is most likely not able to decode the multichannel audio, so that's why it is playing in stereo.

If I wanted to use my PC in my HT setup, I would need to invest in a sound card that could process Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA. Right now it is only capable of stereo, or simulated surround.

If you have the PURE DIRECT surround mode selected, this is by design.

It is also a setting For the display in any mode, you can set it to do this or be on all the time. Just press the display button on the front and hold it a second.

Music, more music.

Hi all

I'm having an issue with my 7008. I'm playing two channel music from my iPad to the 7008 via airplay and was listening for about 10 minutes when I heard a loud thump and pop come through the speakers, then the 7008 shut down and the red light on the front is blinking. It's done this twice in the last month and a half but before that no problems for the last three years. I have it plugged into a power strip with a lot of other items as it's always been and my speakers (powered sub section) are plugged into different outlets.

Any idea of what it can be or where I can start testing? Thanks a lot

Start by taking the power strip out of the loop and plugging the AVR straight to the wall outlet. Also depending on the frequency of the flashing red light will determine the possible issue:

Fast blinking (ie. 2x/sec) - loose speaker wire from one post touching another; volume of 4-ohm speakers too loud; amp failure
Slow blinking (ie. 1x/2sec) - poor ventilation around the unit

Thanks JD - I think the light was blinking more like once a second and it's just weird to me because it's only happened twice.

I'll start checking out the items you mentioned though

Trying to stream through my Marantz

I'm using a CAT5 cable from the router to my Marantz SR50008 Network, from there it goes to my (older smart tv) Samsung by HDMI cable. But when I run a Network test the tv says that i'm not connected? Need help, questions are welcome.

You won't be able to access the TV's smart apps if the TV isn't connected directly to the router, either wired or wireless.

With a CAT5 cable just like the way you connected your Marantz receiver. Your old Smart TV probably has an ethernet port.

Problem with my Marantz 7008. Last week I was watching a movie and noticed that the center speaker volume was suddenly diminished, almost nothing. I ran Audyssey, and that improved (but not resolved) the sound issue. The problem is that the center channel levels are now +12.0, while the other channels are decreased from before (previous center channel volume was +1 or so). Last January-March, we rebuilt the basement and home theater, but the wiring was retained and has been working correctly for the past 6 months.

The center speaker is a Def Tech CS-6080HD, with powered amp. When the receiver is turned on, the light turns on red (which is proper functioning) and the bass level has not been changed. I assumed that it was a speaker fault, took it to my local Def Tech repair center, and they confirmed that it is functioning properly. I also connected my Klipsch center channel, and it is also almost silent at correction 0 dB, almost matched when increased to +12dB (and the two fronts are at -2 dB).

My current set up
Receiver: Marantz 7008 (refurbished from accessories4less, purchased Jan2015)
Center: Definitive Tech CS-8060HD (purchased new Dec 2013)
Fronts/Sides/Rears: definittive tech
Subs : HSU VTF-15h x2

I would have thought that if it was an issue with the speaker wire alone, then there would be no signal. I was wondering if there is anything I can do to check the receiver in place or if there are any known glitches to cause this? Or does it mean that I need to unhook everything and lug it into a service center?

Before taking it to a repair facility, refer to p. 241 in the Owner's manual and reset the microprocessor a few times in a row. If still no joy ... repair time.

Thanks for that rec. I actually rest it once and it seemed to clear the memory of Audyssey settings. When I did the reset 4 times, it completely cleaned the memory - I had to go back and choose language, speaker setup, etc. After the multiple resets, no change in center channel output.

I then swapped the center and L-Front wires at the back of the receiver (so the center channel is still using original center speaker wires), and now the L-front speaker is quiet requiring +12 dB (almost without bass) while the center is full sound.

So that has isolated it to the receiver.

Does this happen more often with Marantz AVR, or refurbished units? The reason I ask is that I will be upgrading to 4K in a year, and so that requires new PJ, AVR, and disc player, and I am thinking of avoiding refurbished vs extended warranty.

I can only share my experience with two refurb Marantz products. I bought the Marantz SR6005 and the UD5005 disc player from Accessories4less and they have worked flawlessly in the five years since. Others may have similar or conflicting experiences.

I hope it lasts a little longer. Just got a little paranoid because I have a Sony receiver from 2000 and a Denon receiver from 2009 that are still working just fine

Hi all

I think I've read that the 7008 does 4K but will it pass a hdr10 and Dolby vision signal clean from a new Apple TV 4K into the 7008 to my TV? Many thanks

Nope. This will only be possible on the 2015 (X010) and 2016 (X011) models once they have received a firmware update (scheduled to be released by early 2018). The 2017 models can do both out-of-the-box. However, if your only 4k/HDR/DV external source is a Blu Ray player, most have dual HDMI outputs ... one to pass the 4k video to the TV and the other to pass the HD audio to the non-4k/HDCP 2.2 compliant AVR. Note too that your 4k TV must also be able to receive HDR and Dolby Vision (excludes Samsung). Another option to pass 4k/HDCP 2.2 (but not HDR/DV) video through the SR7008 is to use a converter like the following:

Could have sworn I read in the 7008 book it did 4K but maybe not. My tv does 4K and all hdr formats so that's not a problem. Oh well maybe time for a new AVR.

Again ... the 2012 - 2014 models can pass 4k video (w/o HDCP 2.2); however, when 4k Blu Rays were released, they also included HDCP 2.2 which prevents the 4k video from passing through the 2014 and older models.

Been having some problems with my SR6008. When I initially turn it on, everthing look fine, then the time before it happens will vary, but it will click and shut off and just show a black screen with the Marantz logo. It will happen with different inputs, and I can turn the whole system off, and then restart and usually fine after that. I have unplugged, I have gone back and made sure all my cables are securely attached, so not sure what is happening.

I am running with a Control 4 system. I have an Apple TV, KScape Alto, and Directv receiver hooked up to it for inputs. I have the L&R preout going to a Emotiva A-300 that drives Goldenear Triton 3+, and the Center directly to Goldenear Supercenter XXL, and the rear surrounds directly to Goldenear HTR7000 in the ceiling.

I had a similar problem and for me it was over-heating. I improved the ventilation and the problem went away.

DSX on SR7008

I really enjoy the 9 channel surround we get from 2 channel inputs. My ceiling precludes Atmos in my house. I was checking out the Marantz models that are newer than the 7008. Is seems that their DSX will not give 9 channels from 2 channel sources. Am I correct about this?

Correct. From the SR7009 Owner's manual (p. 199). Note however, that most owners likely prefer using DTS Neo:X (over DSX) which does allow simulating 2.0 audio to all speakers in the setup.

Thanks for the info about DTS Neo:X. This would accomplish that which I would have missed from the SR7008.

DTS Neo:X is featured on the SR7008 as well, the difference being you can have an 11 CH setup on the SR7009 by adding an external 2CH amp.

I had forgotten about the DTS Neo:X on the SR7008. I tried it years ago but much preferred DSX. Still do.Thanks for the reminder JDS.
