Anyone compare the 7008 to the new Yamaha 3030? I'm wondering what impacts the sound quality more; the xt32 in the 7008 or the 32bit dac's in the 3030? Looking to upgrade from a Yamaha 861.

NHT speakers, Denon 4520, DUAL PSA XS30SE's, ATV4K, 75X940E, UBPX700

I got my system to play the subs in stereo mode by changing the “Subwoofer Mode” in the menu to “LFE+Main”

That's not the right way to do it and it's totally opposed to Audyssey recommendations. The right way is set all speakers "Small" and work with the crossovers. I found myself the best crossover at 80Hz even that my front speakers are huge and can play down to 25Hz.

7. What is ‘LFE + Main’ or ‘Double Bass’ and should I use it?

Lots of info ther. Thanks.
I set them to small first and still did not get anything out of the sub. I kept them at small and changed it to LFE +MAIN and it worked. Do you think my crossover was set wrong?
I can play with again tonight.

Change the crossover on your front speakers to 80Hz and try it again. Also, Audyssey is very conservative with subwoofer levels. After calibration I always set the subwoofer level at 81 dB instead of 75 dB.

4. If I want to run my subs a little 'hot' where should I make the changes?

Subscribing to this thread as feel the SR7008 is the unit for me.
Would love to read any comparisons to receivers you guys replaced.
Thanks!

I replaced an Onkyo TX-NR809 and the difference in SQ is very noticeable. I think it is most because the jump to XT32. Also in Pure Audio mode my speakers sound much better with the SR7008 than with the NR809. Audyssey did a very good job integrating my speakers with my subwoofer. No nulls or peeks in the all listening area in a living room with no room treatments. I'm very happy with my purchase.

I don't expect to much difference in SQ, if there is any, between the SR7008 and the X4000. I based my selection just because I liked the look of the Marantz and the 7.1 ch analog input.

I prefer the look of the Marantz, but the price of the Denon. wink.gif

I have heard that Marantz tends to be better for music than Denon, but that's such a subjective statement, I can't put too much stock into it.

I only had a couple hours with the 7008 this week and had to leave town. Will spend more time with it early next week.

The 7008 Compared with the x4000 it was like someone took a blanket off my speakers. Highs were more extended, overall sounded better, the bass was not as punchy and fun on my little Usher s520s in direct mode, they sounded very different. This is the first time Audyssey has set the main fronts to large, my last few receivers it would set them to small and enable the subs without me doing that manually. I did try it manual, but didn't get the bass I wanted. honestly, I will need more time with that next week. strange how it sounds bass shy in direct mode, even when compared to an old Marantz 5002 that was sitting around.

Marantz SR7008 SAVE/LOAD function working with Firefox and Safari on both iMac and MacBook Air with Mountain Lion.

Just copy the link below on Safari or Firefox, of course you need to put your own IP address:

I am still not getting my sub to play in stereo. I have my speakers set to small and crossover set to 80Hz. The only way they play is if I set the subwoofer to LFE+MAIN.

I'm between buying an sr6008/sr7008 (which ever I can find the better deal for) and an x4000. The Denon literature says you can listen to one source and view another simultaneously. Is this possible with the Marantz? That could be the deal breaker for me. I'm upgrading from an sr6004 for the 3d/4k passthrough. I also want the network functions. However the ability to utilize two sources at the same time is a big deal. Watching sports with music is the desired outcome.

Did you check on the INFO screen that the subwoofer (SW) is active?

Press INFO in the remote and compare your screen with the screen below:

The SR7008 and X4000 are almost identical units. The main difference between both units is that the SR7008 has two more amps, 7.1 ch analog inputs and one more Component Video input, everything else is the same. Whatever you can do with the X4000, you can do it with the SR7008.

Additionally the SR7008 has--

Gold plated connectors
Learning remote
Flasher input
M-X port
Nicer speaker connectors like the 4520
2 more speakers assignable for a total of 4
1 inch taller and deeper enclosure

Marantz claims there are some inner design differences with better components, HDAM modules, etc.

Up to you if that is worth the additional cost. Call Craig here at AVS for prices.

Howdy. Set up the 7008 a couple of days ago...still haven't even run Audyssey yet.

Quick q: I "lost" the on-screen volume control when I was monkeying around with the settings. Anyone know where that control is?

Also of note: If you are setting up VTuner, you can only see the MAC address from the on-screen UI. It's not visible through through the browser / web control.

Go to "SETUP/VIDEO/On Screen Display" and check that "Volume" is set "Bottom" or "Top". If it is set "Off" it won't show the Volume control on the OSD.

Appreciate the response. Does the 6008 have the ability to do audio from one source and video from another? I ask because I can get a pretty good deal on the 6008, but would forgo it if it doesn't have that ability.

Denon x4000 had more bass in direct mode with my speakers. The 7008 sounds a bit thin to me in Direct mode. not sure if that is "better" really. I think speakers will sound different depending on the woofer size, impedance etc. Main thing was the 7008 was better in all other areas. it was just the bass that was a little thin to me (7008). might of been a tighter bass, so could be better for some setups/personal taste. the little woofers on the Usher S520s liked the Denon bass in direct mode.. I really need more time with it next week.

One thing for sure is the Ushers are very revealing of source. changing amps sounded like i changed speakers. it was a huge difference. with the right 2-channel equipment the s520s are outstanding for music. i heard it!

hard thing is to find an AV receiver that will come close to that.

Just did it....Called Craig at AVS and ordered the 7008....Craig was a big help and the price was great too......
Quick question this will be my first reciever with HDMI, just wanted to see if this is right, I will connect my TV,Blu Ray,Cable box,Satelite box, to hdmi in's. then am I correct, that I have to connect the hdmi out of the 7008 to the hdmi in on tv?? Like i said this is my first time using a reciever with hdmi inputs and outputs, just want to be ready for hooking this baby up when I recieve it....
Thanks,
Rick

Yes, all your sources with HDMI output (DVD, Blu-ray, DirectTV, Cable box, Apple TV, Roku, etc) to any of the six HDMI In's, then your Main Zone TV to HDMI 1 Out.

Thanks much - I tried that last night, but it's not "sticking". I'm wondering if there's a bug, or something else (e.g. tied to the HDMI output, HDMI control, or Video Conversion settings). Too many choices wink.gif

The SR7008 is not 4ohm certified, but if you don't play at reference levels it should drive three 4ohm speakers with no problems. I have a friend who is driving two Polk Audio LSi9s and LCi center with a Denon X4000 with no issues.

OK a call to Marantz confirms the ability to play two sources at the same time i.e. music from CD, radio, etc and video from any connected source.

The Marantz tech may be biased, well actually he probably is, but he said the Marantz has a fuller sounds vs the Denon. The 6008 would be replacing a 6004, which does not have the dual source capability.
