There's a deal at the future shop by me that has a " Pioneer SC-1528-K " for sale at 1100.00. I can't find any reviews for the 1528, just the 1523. 1. Did futureshop screw up their marketing and mislabel this receiver and 2. How do you think the receiver compares at this price to the Denon x-4000?

The 1523 is top of the line in the non-Elite series receivers. Sounds like they've screwed up on their input on that ad.

Nah, the 1528 is the Canadian SC-1523 with the brushed aluminum faceplate or other cosmetic difference.. They've had several Pioneer models like that in the past only available in Canada.

could also just be a Futureshop thing as Pioneer may have given them different model numbers. On the website I see a VSX-1127, 1128, 1027, SC-1228, 1328, 1527 and 1528.

http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/category/receivers/1043.aspx?type=product&filter=category%253aTV%2B%2526%2BHome%2BTheatre%253bcategory%253aAudio%253bcategory%253aReceivers%253bbrandName%253aPIONEER

The xx27 are last year's models while the xx28 are current models.

The hdmi inputs look different on both, 9 inputs on one with 8 on the other. But other then that the 1523 and 1528 look identical. I'll have to call pioneer tomorrow.

as far as size measurement they use the metric system in Canada, hence the cm instead of inches.

If there are added features this could be a special model designated for Canada. It may be that they don't have elite models in Canada so the SC-1528 might be the equivalent of the SC-75 or 77. which would explain why they have different finishes than non elite Pioneer models.

Both Pioneer USA and CAN sites seem to be down so it's hard to find the differences right now.

Pioneer SC-1523 VS  Pioneer Elite (SC 71 or 72)

Elite vs not elite

I don't need the 9.2. I'm powering 4 ohm martin logan speakers.

Which is a better product

The SC-1523K is the technical equivalent to the SC-75, so it should have greater capabilities than either the SC-71 or SC-72. The main difference you will find is that the SC-1523K has a white LED display while the SC-75 has amber LED's. Also keep in mind that if you buy a Pioneer Elite product from an on-line store Pioneer will not provide any warranty. They will however honor the warranties for non-Elite products like the SC-1523K that are bought on-line.
