Yes, due to downsize requirements. But I'm surprisingly pleased by the end-result. Hope all is excellent with your M17!

Shame - I was hoping you were going to do a nice write-up of the M17 and Dirac. Yes I am happy with the M17 - sound quality is great - better than my Marantz AV8801 - which is always positive. I've done a few Dirac calibrations now and certainly with v2 the process is a little easier. My dealer is coming round in a few weeks to do a professional calibration - hopefully that should take it up another notch. I am on my second unit as the first was an upgraded v1 which I returned - one of the minor issues with the M17 is that is quite hard to tell a v2 M17 apart from a v1 M17. I haven't tried Tidal MQA yet - I'll wait for the dealer to do my cal first. There are a few little annoyances - like I can't play files off the USB - I wanted to try the Atmos demos (leaf, etc) - I'll just wait till I get a UHD Blu-ray - such as your Pioneer or borrow my brother's nVidia Shield (unfortunately so he is in the Far East at the moment so not quite an easy option). All in all pretty happy with what I bought and cost of the exchange between my Marantz (I sold second hand) and this (I got quite a good deal) was good - George

Has anyone idea why M17 still does't have option to turn off front screen? It is absolutely ridiculous that home theater prepro cannot switch off screen to prevent distraction during films. Has NAD given any sensible reason for this?

And yea, remote is an absolute joke.

Presumably the team at NAD didn't think things through. Considering that this is pretty much a must-have feature on any home theatre product (and presumably an easy one to implement at that) it's pretty lacklustre. When I owned the M17 I asked NAD repeatedly for years and the reply was always the same - "your suggestion will be passed on to the development team". Now with the new V2 and new firmware - still nothing.

The matching HTRM 2 remote I thought was pretty amazing however. Same materials and luxurious build as the M17 itself with a nice weight. Smallish buttons perhaps. I considered the HTRM 2 leaps and bounds above what many other brands offer. But of course this depends on your preference and frame of reference.

Mine are ML Expression 13A mains, Focus C18 center, and Electro Motion R in-wall surrounds which you can barely see hiding in the top right of that pic. All powered by an ATI AT1805 power amp that lets unholy amounts of dynamics and airy detail through for its price, and it’s not even a balanced design. (I really want their balanced 450wpc AT6003 for my LCR but it won’t fit in my BDI tv cabinet and aesthetically there’s nowhere else out of sight to put it) The subs are Rythmik FV15HPs which I purposely bought for their servo system’s ability to kick out extremely detailed and textured bass to keep up with the ML’s speed. But being 15” and ported they can also pressurize your entire room with clean 20hz and under content. You’d have to hear it to believe it. Everything piano gloss black. The M17V2 w/ Dirac V2, Oppo UDP-203, and Samsung 75” QLED Q9F tie it all together into this super dynamic 3D tangible experience I don’t even have words to describe. That, and it all looks like pieces of art. Can you tell I’m kinda into my toys a little? The crazy part is with the NAD I feel like I’m only scratching the surface running an unbalanced 5.2 system when it’s capable of balanced 11.2 Atmos. Like someday when I move and have room for more amps/speakers I can’t even imagine what the possibilities are gonna sound like.

ATV 4K Netflix App seems to produce a slight hiss when played through the M17. I think it is a Netflix issue as I tried the Prime App on the ATV 4k through the M17 and no hiss. It is quite easily tested - just pause the video stream - Netflix a little bit of hiss - Prime nada. This seems to me to be a software issue of some sort which I hope can be fixed. Fortunately when playing the ATV 4k Netflix App the hiss is not really noticeable unless you listen up close to the speaker. I would be interested if anyone else has noticed this - George

My NAD M17 failed a couple of months ago. It has been at the local NAD repair shop for a little bit now, but I've just been informed that because I changed the MDC modules that the unit is no longer under warranty. The unit had been working fine for >6 months with the new modules.

Is this true? I'd like someone from NAD to comment. Bob are you there?

It was one of the preset settings. I had not enabled dsp. So now I have a couple of settings and can change it regards on music or surround. Love this more and more.

That’s cool - haven’t really used presets so far - i’m using Dirac on everything at the moment. I had a chat with Netflix engineers and Apple support (the guy I talked to was a sound engineer). It seems the ATV 4K in Atmos is sensitive to electrical interference. I’m re-cabling my setup to minimise this and i’ve bought a better power cable for my ATV 4K - hopefully that will solve this - George

I added a new power amplifier and then set up a new preset for 2.0 without Dirac and all the other things. Kind of "direct" mode.

Let me know how it goes, probably I will have the same hiss here. But had not played any atmos on my ATV yet.

The manual regarding Atmos are not good. Use the Dolby speaker. 5.1.2?

hi - just had the dealer in to calibrate my setup. Interesting watching someone who does Dirac calibrations for a living. Picked up a few tips. My crossovers are higher than I usually set. The dealer used Dirac v1 - which I can import into v1 but not Dirac v2. But at least I can see what was done in Dirac if I need to do another calibration. For example, the dealer calibration has my Sub 3 sealed - I may try another with the Sub 3 ported - George

Do you mind share some of it? Here or in the Arendal Sound thread on ..forums?
I try to follow the guidelines from here: https://mehlau.net/audio/dirac-live-avr-crossover/
And was ending up a bit lower than I wanted so the first weeks I use 80hz on all speakers too see/hear how it are for some time.
The sub are on 120hz for now.

I’m finding the Dirac v2 calibration in my room sounds better than the v1. The dealer recommended front crossovers at 100hz, centre 150 hz and surrounds at 120 hz. But I may review this - this is an advantage and disadvantage of Dirac you can change to your heart’s content

My initial run of Dirac V2 came out with some ups and downs over V1. V2 is louder overall and far more full sounding at the expense of sounding a little muddy tbh. It’s more attention grabbing at first but I feel V1 sounds more refined..less in your face impactful like a real theater. I’m going to keep experimenting with it since my V1 calibration was done with the M17V2’s supplied mic and the V2 Dirac calibration was done with a miniDSP Umik 1 mic. So far I’m sticking with V1 but there’s got to be a way to get Dirac V2 sounding less muddy. Maybe I’ll nix the Umik 1 and go back to the NAD supplied mic for Dirac V2? Either way it’s so cool to be able to switch between the different calibration versions on the fly with the remote to A/B compare.

I do it by going to the on-screen menu, then select DSP Options> Dirac On> drop down select which of the three possible slots you want.

Oh, I seem to remember the OSD causing the music BluOS plays to stop until I exit it. But, I could be wrong.
