4. I have both a Chromecast and Roku and the streaming quality is greatly inferior to the built-in app. Further, they require an additional device to control versus simply using the Denon remote. Fortunately the app works again after this update.

Please stop telling me I'm wrong, which you are effectively doing each time you offer a rebuttal. I'm the customer, and you're speaking like a dealer making excuses for Denon by offering options (kluge workarounds) that are not really helpful. But thanks for trying to be a good sales person.
Not at all, rather we simply have differing opinions and considering I've been a forum member much longer than with AVS, you would have gotten the same advice either way.

But as you say, you're up and running again with the new firmware update, so enjoy the on board Pandora.

Hi all - a very informative thread to read but after going through weeks of posts I just want to confirm my understanding. I have a S900W and I'm looking to get both a new TV (pretty much settled on the Samsung 75NU8000) and the PS4 Pro (to replace my PS4 to take advantage of 4k and HDR).
  1. Even with all the firmware updates, the S900W won't support 4k video? The users manual indicates it will pass 4k / 60fps via HDMI, just not the connector on the front panel.
  2. Does the answer to #1 depend on if we're talking a PS4 Pro or a STB (Fios)?
    • If Netflix, Prime, etc are selected from the smart TV directly and audio sent to the S900W via ARC, any concerns here regarding 4k or surround sound quality?
  3. Main reason I'm upgrading the TV is to take advantage of 4k and HDR - if sources are sent directly to TV and audio to the S900W via ARC, any issues with taking advantage of 4k and HDR without sacrificing sound quality?
Thanks in advance. Just trying to fully understand any implications of using my S900W with a new TV and PS4 Pro to take advantage of better video/audio.

Should have included I have a 5.1 setup with Energy front and center speakers and HK sub and rear speakers. Not looking for the end-all-be-all surround sound solution, just want to keep a nice experience for movies/TV/sports (almost always use the PS4 with headphones). Thanks

1. Correct. HDCP 2.2 was released in 2015 which negates 4K from passing through.
2. Only audio is being passed back to the AVR via ARC or optical, although only non-HD audio will pass in both cases (ie. no Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD-MA from BDs or 4k UBDs).
3. Nope, other than what is noted in 2 above.

Anyone running 4ohm speakers like the Emotiva’s T1 with an entry level Denon like the 510 ?

Hello @roostervol ,

Regarding the HDCP 2.2 limitation of your AVR mentioned by @jdsmoothie , there is a solution: HDFury Integral 2 or HDFury Vertex (maybe even their AVRKey).

This gear can legally convert HDCP 2.2 to HDCP 1.4 enabling you to bypass the limitation of your AVR (same as on my Denon AVR-X3100W) and enjoy its full audio capabilities.

For the HDR of the PS4 Pro - which your AVR still won't support - you can also bypass that with this gear by linking one output (top one) for sound to your AVR and the bottom one directly to your TV.

Take a look at the threads for this equipment on this forum, ask questions if needed and decide if the price is worth the investment.

I suggest you read the Integral 2 thread - it's the same gear as the Vertex minus the OLED display - and since it's quite new, there's much less to read to grasp the huge possibilities (overkill for our uses) it offers.

One feature I thought I would not need - until I got a new media player which outputs a 10Bit picture - is what is called "Beta AVR Audio" on my 1st generation Integral: it sends only the sound to the AVR (if it supports this feature)... my Denon AVR-X3100W does not process HD sound when my media player sends it with a 10Bit picture at 60 fps, be it UHD or HD! 24 fps has no problem.

I will add that in the above limitation of the AVR, it reports the kind of HD sound received as "unknown"... but once the bandwidth is reduced, audio gets processed.

Regards,

W.

TV: Samsung UE78JS9580 (4K HDR10); AUDIO: Denon AVR-X3100W (4K HDCP 1.4)

Need Help; Denon S900W minimal output to sub

One of our set-ups at second home is 5.1.2 system driven by Denon S900W AVR and RSL speedwoofer.

After firmware update this past week sub output easily dropped > 50%. Afterwards I ran Audyssey (2 times) & same issue. This firmware update did something to impact this.

Afterwards I did change my fronts to small and also upped subwoofer dB and it helps a bit with music or Blu-ray. But with normal HD TV cable I have no punch from subwoofer & did turn the subwoofer gain up way past 12 o’clock

What else can I do?? Thanks

Primary set-up 5.1.4; Yamaha A2050, Paired w/Parasound P5 & ATI 500NC 2 channel amp
Revel F206 fronts & Revel M16 rears; Outlaw X12 Sub & 4 RSL C34e in-ceilings

Secondary 5.1: Denon S900W, Polk LSiM703/704C, Polk RC80i in-ceiling rears, RSL Speedwoofer 10s

Get a hold of an earlier firmware version (if still available on Denon's website) and install it if you have confirmed the issue is the recent update.

Thanks for reply JD, as usual

Was thinking of that, but then via set-up I went into audio (not speaker level). Subwoofer adjust was on & set to only +4 dB, I changed it to +6/7 dB and the punch came back. Amazing, but I’m happy mystery is solved

Have great Sunday

still awaiting the FW update for my 2100 to restore Pandora. I am experiencing some intermittent hdmi issues where the signal drops for a split second and I get the blue screen on my projector. Considering updating to a newer receiver but not really feeling Denon. I had a AVR-2113CI die and replaced it with a AVR- X2100W. Had the HDMI board replaced once under warranty which is obviously now expired.

Got a recomendations? Simple requirement is 7.1 due to my home theater speaker arrangement.

This is the second time Pandora has broken in as many years. So I'm looking forward to next summer when it breaks again, probably in late August 2019 if history repeats itself.
Interesting, my online update keeps failing. I went direct to the update section of Denons website and based on my serial number is says my latest update is dated Oct 29 2017?

As noted in post 6, the Pandora update was released on November 9.

I see that but my unit continues to fail when updating firmware over the air, and when I go to Denon's site it wont give me the latest firmware?

EDIT - I switched to wifi hotspot and was able to update. Looks like the Denon update system doesn't like my Verizon throttled connection

Refer to post 5 and do a "Network reset".

Sent my unit Denon avrx4100w in for repair this morning. I accidentally left the unit on for an extended period. When I did my last configuration change to my setup, I didn’t plug my Denon into the switched outlet on my outlet strip. Typically, it would turn off when I turned off my emotive xsp-1 and xpa 2 and 3. I plugged it into the standard always on outlet. When I realized it and shut the power off it went into standby mode. I made the configuration change July 14 of 2018 so it was powered on continuously for 22 weeks or 4.5 months. I did the soft reset described on page 1, I even unplugged everything and tried the soft reset, no love. Even though I never used the built-in amps, I used the preamp section, I may need to buy a new processor.

Leaving it powered on for an extended period shouldn't have caused any issue. A "soft reset" is only the first troubleshooting step. Did you also perform a microprocessor reset (post 5) as that would have had a better chance of resolving the issue, although you never actually indicated the issue.

Also, as your unit was likely well out of the 3 year warranty, you'll be responsible for the warranty repair, although if they only have to do the microprocessor reset, they shouldn't charge you much.

jdsmoothie, thanks

I looked and couldn't find buttons labeled (tuner preset +, tuner preset -)

I did try pressing the power button while also pressing the info and back butttons. The initialized never appeared in display. The power would shut off after a few seconds and blink rapidly.

My Denon shuts off and goes into standby mode immediately when powering up.

Oops! Sorry. I forgot that you're actually posting in the wrong thread.

You should be posting in the following thread ---> https://www.avsforum.com/forum/90-re...200-x7200.html

And in that thread, refer to post 4. If you pressed and released the power button (as is normally done when the AVR is powered on), while continuing to hold the INFO + BACK buttons and the unit never displayed INITIALIZED as well as "powering off after a few seconds" then there is likely amp failure.

You can either purchase an OEM replacement (RC-1192) from Denon or eBay or purchase a Harmony universal remote (eg. 650) and download the X3100W remote codes to it from Logitech's website. Remotes are about $50.

Or also use the Denon App (for Android at least) in the meantime if your AVR is connected to your home network.

AVR: Denon X3100W
Issue: no video output on HDMI, audio works

Pardon me if I missed it, but I looked through all the problems and issues lists and searched but could not find:

My HDMI output has no video, but audio works. Other than that all inputs and speaker posts work as well.

Could I fix it somehow?
Thanks in advance!

Try a different HDMI input on the TV. If no joy, then try replacing the HDMI cable from the AVR --> TV.

If yet still no joy, then try doing a "soft reset" of the AVR by powering it and the TV both OFF and unplugging their respective power cords and the HDMI cable that connects them for 10 minutes. Connect all cords and cable. Power on the TV first, pause 5 seconds, AVR, pause 5 seconds, and the lastly the source.

If yet still no joy, then refer to post 5 and do a "microprocessor reset".

And finally, if yet still no joy, either repair or replace.

I'm in the same boat but..... no sound or picture from one of my HDMI inputs. I have had this AVR since it came out and it has worked flawlessly. I have all my HDMI's used on this bad boy. AVR is going to SONY XBR65X900E through ARC. HDMI's are filled with game consoles and SONY 4K Bluray player. On one input my ps3 is connected and has worked perfect. The other day i tried turning it on and no screen or sound. HUH.....
Turned of unit and still nothing. i looked online and thought it might be my PS3. unplugged it got out my AV Cables and reset picture and even connected directly to TV and it worked. i then plugged into the TV with a new HDMI Cable directly and worked fine. When i plugged it into the receiver the tv just was black. i tried a different HDMI INPUT and it didnt work. i also plugged a different console into that input in question and nothing.
i called Denon and they had me reset the device and it still didn't work , the ps3 doesn't work on any HDMI input of the denon and..... nothing works on that input...
is it my receiver or ps3?? Maybe it hates my PS3.....
Here Is what'S connected.

PS4 PRO
SONY UBPX800U
NES CLASSIC
SNES CLASSIC
PS3
XBOX ONE
NINTENDO SWITCH

Clearly there's an issue with the one HDMI input. If the PS3 previously worked with the 4k TV, then try rebooting the TV and the PS3. Also, to mitigate HDMI handshake issues, power on the TV first, pause 5 seconds, AVR, pause 5 seconds, source.

sorry for late response, so i tried this and still nothing. i have googled to see if anyone else is having probs like this and i think its something to do with the PS3 and Denon of all things. funny thing is it works when plugged direct to tv. i am usually pretty good at this kind of stuff but this one has me stumped.
