I don't think it is for Dolby Vision. A x4100 owner got a firmware update in the past couple days as well and in far as I know the only 2014 (ish) AVR that will get Dolby Vision is the x7200wa (I could be wrong). I haven't had a chance to swap my 4k Apple TV to my Denon after the update to test but usually firmware updates that add major features like Dolby Vision say that on the update package. This one just said performance improvements (or something along those lines). I want it to be for DV though

Have been confused lately about the maximum speaker layout this receiver can drive, is it possible to use it for a 7.2.4 dolby atmos layout? Of course with an external 2-channel amp

It's complicated:

With no external amps, the X7200W can provide power to as many as 9 speakers at the same time (5.1.4, 7.1.1 or 9.1.0). It can decode audio for up to 11 speakers at the same time (7.1.4 or 9.1.2), but you have to add at least two external power amplifiers. If you add at least 4 channels of external amplification, it can calibrate and be connected to as many as 13 speakers (9.1.4), but only 11 of them can be active at the same time. Which 11 are active is determined by which audio processing option you choose in the receiver.

Yes, as you say, with an external 2-channel amp (and speakers )

I bought a Emotiva BasX A-150, which is a bit of overkill, but decided to do so in case I want to re-task it later for use with my editing equipment. There's a lower powered model, the A-100 that JD suggested to me would be a good fit for surround speakers. The BasX line are well-made, the 2 models I mentioned have trigger inputs on them -1/8" mono (not stereo per Emotiva) jacks on them that are compatible with Denon's trigger outputs (12vdc), and work nicely to turn power on/off to the Emotiva when the Denon is powered on and off.

You're right, of course: connected goes up to 14 with Auro3D, but then only 10 speakers can be active while actually using Auro3D.

I have the 7200wa and will be replacing my 1080p display soon. My HDMI cable run to the display is about 25 ft. I imagine I will have to upgrade the HDMI cable. Does monoprice make a cable that will do the job or should look to at others?

Thanks,
Rob

Go get a Blue Jeans Cable Series 1 HDMI cable. I have seen some people have issues with Monoprice.

Guys is there a way to hook up my AVR-X7200WA to my PC as to use the AVR-X7200WA DACs for sound instead of my PC's sound card? Say via USB? Would drivers be needed?

Ya but wouldn't the headphone jack be using analog signal supplied by the on-motherboard sound? I'm trying to keep the sound digital until it gets to the AK4490 32-bit DACs in the 7200WA.

Right now my PC is hooked up to the 7200WA through TOSLINK. But doesn't the digital signal from the TOSLINK still go through the on-board sound?

Oops! Misread your post thinking you wanted to bypass the AVR DAC.

Yes, using TOSLINK input will use the AVR DAC.

Would USB provide better bitrate than the TOSLINK? I understand TOSLINK is quite bandwidth limited. I only use 2-channel stereo though. Any way to check the bit-rate and frequency of my motherboard to Denon TOSLINK?

You can use a DP to HDMI or DVI to HDMI adapter for your VR headset, and use the GPU HDMI for the AVR. This is what I've done. The VR headset doesn't need the sound through HDMI as it uses USB (at least that's the case for my Oculus Rift).

I have:
1080 Ti HDMI > X7200WA
1080 Ti DVI>HDMI > Oculus Rift

Just make sure the adapter is DVI-D (not DVI-I) to get full HDMI 1.4 bandwidth (at least as much as the Oculus needs).
A DP to HDMI adapter works too but it's more difficult to find a compatible adaptor, the Cable Matters one works fine though.

Works great

Hmm, interesting. I guess I am wondering now if it would even be necessary already connected via TOSLINK since I only send stereo sound from my PC to receiver.

I have my home theater setup differently on the 7200WA for 7.1 via HDMI from my UHD Blu-Ray player.

Fairly sure that D&M AVRs don't have USB DACs built in that allow you to connect a PC. For that you would need a USB-B port which I don't see anywhere. The USB-A ports on the X7200 are for connecting hard drives and USB sticks.

Any word on MQA support? I've been listening to master recordings via Tidal desktop app (software MQA) and it sounds amazing. Curious if receivers were going to be able to process.

Hello can someone tell me how to do a complete, full, factory reset??

I did the reset below but it didn't seem to reset EVERYTHING...

Turn off the power using Power Button .
Press Power Button while simultaneously pressing INFO and BACK.
Remove your fingers from the two buttons when “Initialized” appears on the display.

I don't want to receiver to remember ANY of my settings, is there a different way to do this?

Thanks

Try, unplugging the unit, depress the up and down cursors simultaneously while replugging the power cord back in.

Using the UP/DOWN arrow buttons performs a "Network reset" which also includes a microprocessor reset. Try doing either reset at least 4-5 times in a row which should return just about all settings to factory default.
