Yes, I plan on giving it 4-5 inches above the AVR and a bit less on the sides.
BTW, I see you have SR7009 - friend of mine who has SR7008 says internal temperature doesn't go above 40-45C usually, what about yours? Had a chance to listen to 4520 and compare the sound quality?

Mine is in "open air" on the top shelf of a shelving unit. It still gets rather warm to the touch. I dunno the exact temperature. It replaced an AV8003. I've never had a Denon to compare.

A firmware update showed up for my SR7009 tonight. My wife was turning on theater for us to watch a movie and just said "yes" when it turned on. "It said it would only be 6 minutes"

Not sure what I just downloaded/updated to... I don't think I've gotten a firmware update since I bought it in Nov 2015.

Didn't see anything on the Marantz website about it. They say the latest FW for my Serial # is from Mar 2015.

After update my FW version is: 6845-3161-6010-06. Don't know what it was before...

I got the firmware update notice today too with update time = 10 minutes (estimate). Choosing Included Items displays "Thes update improves overall performance and stability."

I didn't update yet but will likely do it over the weekend.

Having same problem, no on screen display for Pandora, airplay, internet radio, basically any of the built-in Marantz options. When on AppleTv or Cable box all displays and on screen menu's work perfectly. Have tried both a soft and network reset to no avail. Might try a network reset again. Any ideas? My unit is a refurb unit that is up to date with today's latest firmware.

I got this firmware update as well, 6 minutes. After doing it, my receiver now (1) has skips in audio from all inputs and (2) is disconnected from internet -- It was on wifi, and just searches indefinately for any wifi now and also cannot work with wired. Clearly this firmware update has messed something up. Is there a way I can simply roll back to before the update, and if now, how do I reset the entire damn thing to stock specs? I REALLY do not want to have to recalibrate and adjust all my settings again, but this is intolerable!

ETA: I have two 7009's actually. One upstairs I am not updating!

I tried pulling power cable, but did not remove any hdmi cables (why?) and only waited 20 seconds, not 10 minutes. Will try this later and also will try the network reset. If this doesn't work, what is the next step? Even if network is fixed, my audio on all sources is still skipping (happesn about once every 3-4 minutes a brief judder/skip).

Yes ... if you can download an earlier firmware update, then you can roll the AVR back to that firmware version, otherwise you can try doing a network reset as I describe in post 3162.

I downloaded the "latest" firmware which was dated from March via http://us.marantz.com/us/Support/Pag...ctupdates.aspx and installed it via USB per the instructions. Instantly fixed the issue, able to connect to wifi, stream airplay, and so far no sound skipping. Right away I was asked again to update firmware to the one that messed it up before to "improve system stability" and I said no thanks, don't remind me again!

I'm glad that resolved things. I wanted to see what happened on the forums before I updated mine, but my wife was trying to be helpful. Fortunately, I haven't had any issues at all - though I haven't tried streaming from my DLNA server yet... Good to know we can roll back if needed.

My receiver just stopped. On start it tries to power up and then the red light blinks. I have removed all cables and done a factory reset, but it is still not starting up. I had beeen using it just before without issue.

Unfortunately, that means that something has failed in the amplifier circuitry. You'll have to contact Marantz about getting it repaired.

Try doing a series (at least 4-5) of microprocessor resets in a row. If the AVR is connected via a power strip, try removing the power strip and connect the AVR directly to the wall. Was there a recent electrical related incident in the home? Otherwise, if still no joy, if the SR7009 was purchased new from an authorized dealer, it would come with a 3 year warranty so should still be covered for Marantz warranty repair, additionally, if purchased with a credit card, the card issuer may cover it for an additional 4th year as well. Contact your closest authorized Marantz repair facility for an RMA.

AUDYSSEY BEST PRACTICES:

Hi there. I've just reinstalled my SR7009 after running an Anthem MRX 1120 for a few months. I need to run Audyssey again to optimize my system.

Current setup:

Paradigm Prestige 85F L+R
Paradigm Prestige 45C Center
Paradigm Monitor 3 v3 Surrounds
Paradigm Studio CC 470 Surround Back
Dolby Atmos height
Dual SVS SB-2000 Subwoofers
Emotiva XPA-5 Amp (Currently just running Atmos Rear Height speakers)

My question is: Are there any hacks/best practices for getting the most out of Audyssey XT32? I've looked in this thread and in the Audyssey thread but haven't found anything definitive. Has anyone found anything for the 7009?

I don't know of any best practices for XT32 which don't also apply to the lesser versions. Other than resolution, the major difference is in the support for dual sub outputs in those devices with XT32 which include Sub EQ XT. Best practices for dual sub placement are separate from the use of Audyssey.

If you haven't already done so, please take the time to look through the Audyssey 101/FAQ. It will help you to get a good calibration. The instructions in the receivers' owners manuals are pathetically inadequate.

Why waste the power of the XPA-5 on your Rear Height speakers? Consider instead using it to power the L/C/R which require far more power to drive them.

Also, here's a best practice tip: Don't hold the Audyssey mic in your hand or place it on pillows or boxes to get it to your seated head height, rather instead use the included "rocketship" cardboard stand or better yet a camera tripod or mic boom stand.

That's how I had them set up before actually. This time, I wanted to set the receiver up to default. I wanted to get a reference of how it sounded with the stock amps before I use the external again.

Thanks for the tip, Mike. Never a bad idea to grab a copy, while it's available. Since they appear to only maintain a single version, that means when they update the site with the next one, this will go away. Even if it turns out it is more stable.

Does anyone know how to raise the input level of the audio via the HDMI Arc channel?

I have to raise the volume to 45 on my 7009 when using my set top box or Netflix, for example in order to get a reasonable amount of volume. It just doesn't seem right.

If I run my set top box through the 7009 to the TV then I know there is an option in the Inputs to raise or lower the volume but since the video is going directly to the TV, and the sound via TV audio/hdmi ARC, this is grayed out.

BTW I have the digital output on my Sony A1E and my Verizon VMS 1100 stb to max and there is nothing else I can change.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

FYI, 45 sounds about right for a Denon or Marantz receiver. I don't think you have an issue except that of expectations of how the volume scale works.

Thanks, the only other thing that's driving me nuts is when I use the HDMI ARC from the Apps, it works pretty consistently meaning if i'm watching Netflix, it decodes dolby digital, etc.. but with the stb connected, as I change channels, the 7009 seems to loose sync, decodes whatever then switches back to dolby digital. Very annoying. I get something similar when i'm watching Amazon video. When the stream is coming up to speed, the 7009 switches in and out of Dolby Digital + until the stream is up to speed then sometimes I can watch for 20 minutes then loose the sound. If I pause, go back or forward in the movie then press play, the sound comes back and everything is good again. I'm not sure if all this is interrelated.

I'm thinking of using my stb's optical out and feed it to the 7009 to get around this since the stb is never going to send anything more than dolby digital in the near term. Do you think the HDMI ARC is working properly or do you think something is wrong and I should reset the 7009?

Hard to tell where the issues are with respect to negotiating formats but in general running audio thru the set and to any AVR seems to be unpredictable depending upon TV brand. I suspect your issues are with the TV.

I have a LG C7 and not the AE1 but I found Amazon streaming very unreliable as compared to Netflix with the TVs built in app. (It also somehow screws up my hardwired enet connection while streaming--no other apps do that...must be an LG bug.)

As for everything else (DirectTV, AppleTV, BluRay <non 4k>, Nintendo Wii U) I run everything thru the AVR to the TV. With my older Sony 4k set (850a) everything worked great; with my LG I've had to disable ARC/CEC because of issues I have with LGs CEC screwing up my receivers input during the power on sequence--and use a harmony remote to start everything up.

I am having the same problem with audio drop outs ever since i installed the new update. When i go to the marantz product update the only firmware it shows is from march 2015 which i downloaded to a flash drive. Is this the correct one to roll back this crappy new update?

I am having similar problems with the new update from 6-29-2017, audio dropout, no WiFi connection and even have a subwoofer problem on one main speaker (FL) no bass output. Rolling back to march update as I type.

Takes about an hour.

The firmware roll back was a success. However the first time i installed it with a flash drive it stopped after about ten minutes with an error. I unplugged the receiver for 10 minutes and tried it again and it worked just fine. Everything seems perfect now. Just to clarify this is my sons marantz.
