Obviously it wasn't obvious if someone had to ask "Sorry, February for what?" C'mon, man.

Do we know yet if this will support 9.2.4 Atmos? I will have two surround speakers in my home theater. The current plan is to treat the two speakers as a surround array on each side, but if a pre-amp comes out (or AVR) that supports 9.2.4 and allows for sidesurround and sidesurround2 (or whatever Atmos calls those), I might switch to that configuration instead.

It looks like it will support 9.2.4, but it does not do two sets of side surrounds. Look at the first post.

Does Marantz have a presence at CES? Anyone going? I'm hoping for more definitive news coming out of CES.

I thought we were told it was going to be simultaneously only 11.2 but with connections for up to 13.2

Has this changed?

The 8802 is a 13.2-channel SSP, and as such you can connect 13 channel amplifiers and 2 subwoofers.
But only 11 channel plus the subwoofer channel (times 2, or even more subs if you want, with 'Y' connectors) can run simultaneously.
Basically you can run a 5.1.2, or a 5.1.4, or a 7.1.2, or a 7.1.4, or a 9.1.2 Dolby Atmos/Auro-3D setup configuration.
And of course the .1 in the middle can be a .2 (for two subs but still the same channel).

* You can connect a 9.2.4 system with all the amplification and loudspeakers and subwoofers, but 7.2.4 (or 9.2.2) is the maximum that can run simultaneously.

Sorry, but no it will not. The Denon X5200W/X7200W and Marantz SR7009/AV7702/AV8802 all have the same max Atmos configuration of 7.2.4.

I didn't see anything in the article (translated) and looking at the picture, it lists the front heights, but as assignable. That's the reason I was hoping that if they supported more than 7.x.x that those might be able to be assigned to surround2 rather than front heights.

There was never any plans to have HDCP 2.2 at launch. It has always been talked about as a future upgrade. Are you saying there won't be a future upgrade? If so, do you mind sharing your source?

Hardware upgrade usually have to send in. From my experience. I can wait to buy one once that's been implemented in the system.

D&M won't be showing at CES. Most of their news was released at CEDIA. I'm planning on meeting up with the National Sales Manager at CES and grab a drink to talk shop.

That is smart thinking; and by then we might have few more Dolby Atmos Blu-ray titles, ...smart flicks.

I suspect we might want to wait for the dust to settle on HDMI2/4k/HDCP2.2 as well.

I expect there'll be some reason why we'd need HDMI2.1 and HDCP 2.3 next year

Greetings,

For this reason I have decided to wait on the 8802 until it begins shipping with the HDCP 2.2 hardware. In the meantime I will go with the 7702...

Looks like we have a price. Bit more than I was hoping.

"The $3,999 AV8802, available in February, also adds ISF
video calibration and AIFF music playback compared to
its predecessor.

Marantz said it held off on installing HDCP 2.2
because it “does not want to compromise on the limited
bandwidth and color capability of currently available
HDCP 2.2 implementations.” The HDCP 2.2 upgrade will
require a hardware modification."

54 000uF to power 11 channels... I am not impressed..

  • 150 W per channel (8 ohms, 20 Hz-20 kHz, 0.06% THD, 2-ch driven)
  • 170 W per channel (8 ohms, 1 kHz, 0.9% THD, 2-ch driven)

  • 27,000μF custom block capacitors

  • High quality gold-plated speaker terminals
  • Auto Power Standby
  • Handy trigger control (trigger in / out and through out )
  • Detachable high quality thick AC power cord
