Thank you. (Can I LOL on here?). Maybe I am not asking this right. I just want to know what the "Web Update" feature (in the photo) is used for. I think it is for Airplay, because when I clicked on it, it gave me (presumably my current) Airplay firmware number, and wanted to know if I had newer firmware (presumably for Airplay?) to install.

There are three ways to update the firmware on a Denon:

1. Direct download, where the receiver connects to the internet, downloads the update and installs it. This is the preferred method.

2. USB, where you download the firmware update to a thumb drive using your computer, then plug the USB into the receiver to do the update.

3. Web interface, where you download the firmware update onto your computer then click on the Web Update button, select the file on your computer that holds the firmware and update your receiver. Denon shows the Apple Airplay firmware version here simply because it is convenient. Airplay cannot be updated outside of a general Denon firmware update.

Note that while option 1 is preferred, options 2 & 3 are the only ones that allow you to install a firmware version other than the most recent (i.e., downgrade the firmware in case of an issue with the current version).

Unfortunate issue X5200

2 weeks ago, it wants to revert to Game for sound mode, even if pushing movie or sound but still did stereo amd DSU and so forth.

tried a 10+ minute soft reset > no change

this morning- show Game , display shows "multi-in" often but not always with other except for stereo and goes through all options, no issues. .

going to do another soft reset and then . . .?

did I miss an update somewhere in the past 10 months or so?

I’ll have tons of beer for you and order Pizza, you can hook everything up!
What do you recommend using to hook up wireless speakers to my Denon?

Purchase HEOS wireless speakers and simply add them to the HEOS iOS/Android app.

Opinions on X5200W vs 4520CI

My 4520 has suddenly developed a problem, which I will describe later. But I'm considering buying a X5200W to replace it and just "be done with it" and put the 4520 into storage to join my 3312. It's not that I need an upgrade, but want to make sure I'm not committing a downgrade. I can get the 5200 or replace the 4520 for the same price.

My uses and needs are simple... 5.2 audio, blu-ray, internet radio, cable TV. That's about it. Most of the features of the 4520 go unused, but I do enjoy the pure sound quality.

The 4520 has served me well for three years or so. Then tonight it just makes a static sound whenever there is any audio signal. This happens on all inputs. If the BRP is off, the speakers are silent. But turn on the BRP (or TV or whatever) and the pulsating static sound starts. Tomorrow I'll look into doing a reset, but am not very hopeful of that doing much. So I will probably end up buying a refurbished something. Thanks for any input.

4520 is out, back to the 3312

I left the 4520 unplugged overnight and tried a power on reset this morning. Shaka, when the walls fell. Even the calibration test tone only produced the crackling noise. Whatever happened, I figure it's likely to take some time and money to get it fixed... neither of which I have much of right now.

So I pulled the 3312 out of storage and packed up the 4520. Pity. Spent the afternoon refamiliarizing myself with the 3312. It looks surprisingly small in the space where the 4520 formerly sat. "It doesn't look any larger than the Mauretania". I had forgotten that the 3312 only has a single sub output, so had to order a splitter. Most of my spare cables and such got tossed during the move.

Maybe someday I'll buy something newer. Lord knows I've done that often enough already. But not this time.

Trying to update my 7200. I have it hard wired to the internet. It's been running a update retry for a few hours now. Did a microprocessor reset. Nothing, still update retry. Unplugged the unit, plugged it back in and same thing; update retry. Is there something else I should try? Would it matter when the last update was done. It's probably been a year.

Yes, I've attempted all three of the resets in post #4 gone through #5 too... still, update retry.
I'll try again tonight after work.

Strange issue with my X5200. I have an Amazon Echo Dot connected via an analog cable (mini-phono to RCA) to the analog CD input. Several times a day the audio in Zone 1 drops out for about 5 seconds, then comes back. I usually play the Echo over both Zones 1 and 2 and can hear that Zone 2 is still playing, so it is not a problem with the Echo or its connection to either the receiver or the Internet. I'd like to resolve this, but I don't even know where to start troubleshooting! I have not noticed any audio drop outs from any other source, but all others are HDMI. This is my only analog connection.

Any thoughts on what might be going on and how to solve it?

By chance are you able to be near the 5200's display when the audio cuts out? Any indication there of what might be interfering or what the receiver is trying to do during these drop outs?

Good thought! I doubt that I will catch it in person while it happens, but I can set up a camera to record the receiver display and review it when it happens.

Caught it in the act. Unfortunately, during the dropout the front panel display did not change in any way. I've tried switching to both different physical RCA inputs as well as re-assigning the input to a different source, but I'm still getting 5 second audio dropouts. Any other thoughts?

Hi steveura, try setting Input Mode to Analog (default is Auto) for the analog CD input.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, it was already set this way. Just tried changing the connection from analog cable to bluetooth and the problem is still there! Quite strange. Has me looking at the Denon X6500h as a better solution!

7200 arriving, speaker layout help needed

Hi all

Need some advice, I have a 7200 arriving soon.

Looking to do: center, fronts, front wides, surround sides, 4 ceiling speakers. (11 speakers)
No surround backs possible as couch agaist back wall (which is 11 ft from TV)
The center, fronts, front wides will be powered by Emotiva XPA5

Questions:
1. Do I use amp assign for the above layout?
2. For the 4 ceiling speakers, should I assign them as top or height (want to use them for both DTS:X and Atmos including the up mixers), if top, should the speakers above the listening position be mid top (no room for rears)?

Thank you

1. Yes. AMP ASSIGN = 11.1.

Amp Assign: 11.1
Height Speakers: 4 Height Speakers
Height Layout: TF + TR (or FH + RH)
Wide/HT 2: Top Rear (or Rear Height)
Pre-out: Front + Front Wide (note the primary purpose of this setting is to identify which 2 speakers are being externally amplified to expand the AVR from 9CH --> 11CH; Beyond those 2 speakers, you can externally power as many other speakers as you prefer, as all of the pre-outs are hot).

2. TOP setting favors Atmos while HEIGHT setting favors DTS:X so you'll have to decide which configuration you prefer most as only one Audyssey EQ can be stored in the AVR and unlike the 2015 and newer models that can use the new Audyssey MultEQ Editor app to swap different configuration EQs in about 1 minute, doing so on the X7200W takes about 10 minutes. Also, you can't configure two sets of speakers next to each other (eg. Top Front and Top Middle is not allowed, therefore your choice is either Top Front + Top Rear, Front Height + Rear Height, or Front Height + Top Middle). As I prefer using DTS Neural:X over Dolby Surround for all non-Atmos/non-DTS:X audio, I prefer using the Front Height + Rear Height configuration.

Hello,
I have problems with my AVR-X4100. After an unsuccesful FW update there is no sound, picture, and the menu is not completely working.
The unit tried to make new update several times, but when it is starting the SUB CPU update, it is shut off.
I found on the net exactly the same porblems with a marantz receiver, and after an offline update that avr is worked again.
I tried to find the FW content, but i was not able to find an EU version, only the US.
Can somebody help me, from where can i download the EU FW content?

Thanks in advace!

Yes, but it would seem to me that if you can't find what you need... then there is a "Contact Us" link or call Denon support directly to get your firmware...

Then apparently they have removed the actual firmware update which are still being provided on that site for more current models.

As deano86 suggested, select the "Contact Us" link on that page and request Denon EU provide the update to you.

I already requested from the local dealer, they can do the FW update only in an authorized service partner, they will not share the FW content.
So I will carry the AVR to the service point on this week, and will see, that it will solve my problem or not....
