I'm looking to buy a HT-amp to add a center speaker to my 2.0 system to enhance the TV-sound further.
I'm planning to use my stereo amp (Hegel Röst) to drive the front channels, and possibly a X5200W to drive the center and manage all the HDMIs and such. Ive a friend selling a used X5200W for 6000$, is this a fair price? Should i look to get a new one, like X3500H instead? As far as I can tell the X5200W does not give me HDR-support, or is this possible via firmware update? Im using a samsung q7 (2017) and apple tv4k to watch most of my content, and thats mostly netflix 4k and itunes rented movies.
Thanks for any reply and advice!
I have had my X5200 for several years now, and I use a Krell power amp to drive the front L/R channels. I'm running a 4.0 system, so the 5200 drives the surround L/R speakers. I also use a PS Audio Stellar Gain pre-amp/DAC. I use the home theater bypass feature of the PS Audio unit. That way, I can listen to my multi-channel SACD and DVD-Audio titles. When/if I get a center speaker, I will likely use the 5200 to drive it.
The 5200 was the next to top AVR of that year and was made in Japan. I find the audio quality to be excellent, and I'm not sure if one of these newer 22 pound AVRs is going to sound as good. I can tell you for sure that $6000 is NOT a good price for a 5200!
But I assume you mean $600, and I'm not sure about that price. Some others here can probably tell you.
As to 4K content, all of mine is UHD Blu-ray discs via my Oppo UDP-203. Now, the 203 has two HDMI outputs, so I connect one of them directly to my Sony 4K TV. I do not believe the 5200 is going to receive any update for HDR.
