Go to Menu/Setup/Speakers/Dirac/Levels then go to Surround and increase or decrease the level for the speakers. Those settings stay and won't change even if you turn the XMC-1 off.

Hi enrico,

Thanks again. I was told that the level values (speakers levels for DIRAC) cannot be changed in XMC-1. But it is good to know that they can be manually changed.

After setting the speaker levels to your desired level, go into Menu>Setup>Advanced>Backup Settings>Confirm.
If you ever run Dirac again or modify a Dirac reading in Full (and I bet you will) and load a new Dirac solution, Dirac will set all your speaker levels back to '0' after downloading.
You can then set the speaker levels back to your desired levels by going into Menu>Setup>Advanced>Restore Settings>Confirm.
This will save getting out your RS SPL meter everytime you reload a new Dirac solution. I learned this the hard way. Feel free to learn from my mistakes.

Many thanks for the tip.

I'm going to buy another subwoofer for my system. So, I will have two subs (Paradigm Seismic 110) near the corners of the front wall (Dual Mono). They will be the exact mirror image of each other. I think DIRAC will group them together. Is there anything that I need to do differently to get an accurate reading / correction for both subs or as long as I go to the DIRAC setting in XMC-1 and choose "dual mono sub" everything will run as expected?

Just a reminder. A "0" reading on the levels does not mean the levels haven't been set by Dirac. They just show 0 as a reference. I assume so that you can easily remember what adjustments have been made from 0 rather than a different value for each speaker.

I realize that, and I actually wish it would show the levels it has chosen. I have a single rear speaker and Dirac consistently sets it 4-5dB too low by my RS DSP meter at the MLP. Think its a problem how it sets single vs 2 rear speakers. I think, even when set to 1 rear it assumes you have two.
Anyway, it's much easier to just 'restore' for me to get it back to my tweak levels.

I had no doubt you knew that. I was mostly posting for sharok and perhaps others who did not.

Must admit my system sounds absolutely aweful with Dirac, and I have the full version. It places the main speakers out of phase, which in turn affects the 2 subwoofers. It sounds amazing without the Dirac. Dissapointed, never had this issue with ARC on a previous Anthem receiver.
I am using the standard issue mic that came with the XMC-1 and a boom stand for the mic.

Mine sounds great with Dirac preset. I have a miniDSP UMIK-1 mic from Cross Spectrum Labs, though. I have never used the mic that comes with the XMC-1. I did try before ARC (AVM60) and Audyssey (Marantz SR7008) and never liked the results. You can also check your impulse response overlays with REW to see if your speakers and subwoofer(s) are out of phase. Here is my impulse response graph so you can see the way it should look if your speakers and subwoofer(s) are in phase.

As far as I know, Dirac doesn't touch phase. What seating model are you using? Are using stereo subs or dual mono?

I have Dirac full and it works great, but I've never tried it with two subs.

Perhaps take another measurement?

Decided the best I could get with my funds as a replacement for my XMC-1 was an Arcam AVR390 used purely as a processor. Seems the best all round package with Dirac I could find.

Hoping it's not too much of a downgrade in audio quality. Happy to report back my findings if anyone is interested. Hopefully get it this week.

Once the RMC-1 and XMC-1 V3 are ready I may consider coming back to Emotiva. For now see you all later..............

Please report back. That's a solution that I would strongly consider in case the XMC-1 never gets the V3 HDMI board.

Isn't the Arcam AVR390 a receiver? Apples and Oranges comparing it to a processor.

It's a receiver with full pre outs so it can be used as processor. It's full 4K with HDMI 2.0a inputs and outputs, runs Dirac Live and it's ATMOS/DTS-X ready so at this point it offers more than the XMC-1.

I wouldn't be able to use it - no balanced output. I'm not suggesting that it offers benefits - it's just that it's the way I have everything wired.

Maybe in times gone by. These days lots of people are using receivers as Processors as the pre amp section is usually very similar if not identical to the processor equivalent. Why pay the extortionate price difference to get what, balanced outputs and perhaps being isolated from some theoretical noise from the amps ?? I'm certainly not paying twice the price for that privelege.

Then go with the AV860 instead. BTW, Dirac Live on Arcam receivers and processor runs at 96KHz/24bit and it comes with full Dirac Live version from factory.

Hmm, so April for getting chips to manufacturer, then they will build RMC-1's first, and after that the XMC-1 upgrades. So probably late June or July before we can even send them in.. That is discouraging, my theater will be done around end of June and I've been planning to upgrade my XMC-1 since Feb 2017 thinking for sure it would be out before my theater is done... At least the RMC-1 might be available by then, so maybe I will sell the XMC-1 and just buy the RMC-1... Just another hit to the budget...

Yeah. I'm sure the RMC-1 will be ready on time. They always release their products right on time. Their track record is impeccable.

Sorry. The sarcasm is aimed at Emotiva, not you.

My wife tells me I should be more positive, so here it goes. OK, I'm sure none of the products will be ready on time. Positively.

It would be interesting to know, if it is knowable, what percentage of A/V enthusiasts make their buying decisions based on a detached analytical approach that is devoid of all emotion. I would think that the percentage would Be small.

If I could find an XMC-1 gen 2......

Could I upgrade later to the new HDMI boards?

I really don’t want to wait until June.

If anyone knows of a XMC-1 slightly used for sale - let me know?

Thanks,

George
