Didn't know NAD was offering AVRs with Dirac. Very interesting! Both the T 777 V3 and the T 758 V3 have 7.1 analog inputs as well. I've never owned any NAD gear but they're known for having excellent sounding gear. If more audio companies add Dirac to their AVRs and prepros that niche for Emotiva will be gone.

You also have Arcam AVR390 with Dirac Live (Full version installed from factory), ATMOS 7.1.4, full 4K + HDR with 7 HDMI inputs + 3 HDMI outs for $2499 at Best Buy. But I asked at my local Best Buy/Magnolia and they offered it to me for $1999. Trust me, I was very tented to get one to try it.

How do the DACs in those units compare to the XMC-1?

Not sure how they compare but I'm pretty sure none of them use lousy DACs. As already pointed by Bill, both companies (NAD and ARCAM) are very well known for their SQ. I have a Bluesound Node 2, which is made by NAD and the sound is extremely good, to the point that I sold my Oppo 105D because sounding wise they were too close to hear any difference in sound, at least with music streaming from TIDAL (HiFi and MQA). The NAD T 758 V3 comes with BlueOS already so basically you have a NODE 2 installed inside and the DAC inside the 758 V3 is MQA certified.

So in the last podcast (03/09/18) Big Dan promised weekly updates starting from that date. It's the 19th (10 days later) and not a single update. They even locked down for good the V3 HDMI Board Update Thread.... At this point, I'm seriously looking to other options with Dirac Live...

Wait, isn't the T 758 an 8-channel unit? I don't think it can do more than 5.1.2 in Atmos.

It does 7.1.4 with external amp for the four height channels.

Good to know that the AVM60 does OSD at 4K/60Hz. Unfortunately I did try ARC on the AVM60 side by side with the XMC-1 and found Dirac Live a much better room EQ solution than ARC. By that time (May 2017) I didn't have a 4K display so did not check for OSD at 4K/60Hz.

The Marantz and Denon you were looking at don't have Direc Live either...
Why would you consider them?

I posted my tale of woe and was immediately jumped for not being patient, whining, etc. After nearly three years of waiting, I have no patience and should just move on and quit raining on their parade? I had forgotten how strong the supporters can be over there, and why I rarely if ever post there. At this point I am hoping the v3 board is out "soon" as that is all I really need and it's cheaper and far less hassle than a new AVP.

Like Enrico and many others, I really like Dirac Live, and do not see myself giving it up without finding something with similar capability.

Ah, I see the pre-outs for that now. They were not grouped with the 7.1 preouts, but hiding over by the digital inputs oddly. Anyway, that's a great price for all that functionality. It's Dirac Lite I know, but still . . . does it do Dirac on all 12 channels?

Sorry for the off-topic stuff. I'll head over to that thread if there is one, and check it out.

I have a 7.2 setup in my living room with XMC-1 and Dirac Live and a 5.1 setup in my bedroom with Marantz NR1606 and Audyssey. I was looking for for a replacement for my bedroom setup with a receiver capable of showing OSD at 4K/60Hz and Denon/Marantz do not offer that yet. I'm waiting for 2018 Marantz/Denon receivers lineup to see if OSD at 4K/60Hz is coming. If not I might consider wait until the XMC-1 Gen 3 is released, get one and move my current XMC-1 Gen 2 to my bedroom. That's the main reason this past weekend installed a Salamander Archetype A5 rack in my bedroom and moved all my equipment into it so I can have a full height receiver or pre pro with a 5 channels amp on the bottom shelf

That's because they released the ATMOS and 4K upgrade card back in mid 2017 when they announced the T 758 V3. The T 758 was released back in 2014 and NAD has been upgrading it with new cards since then. It does come with Dirac LT for NAD and it can be upgraded to Dirac Live Full for NAD for $99 like with Emotival. Dirac runs in all 12 channels.

Hi enricoclaudio,
I was hoping that you could elaborate on "much better EQ solution".

I had several Audyssey receivers in the past (Onkyo SR705, SR876, NR809 and Marantz SR7008) but I always hated Audyssey for music. It makes my speakers sound unnatural and highly processed. That's why for music I used to have a Parasound Halo P5. Then I decided to give the AVM60 a try and found that ARC was just bit better than Audyssey but still too much processing for my personal taste so decided to try Dirac (Trial PC Version) and I did like the results. So after some research I did order the XMC-1 with Dirac Live full and did some A/B/C testing (Marantz SR7008, Anthem AVM60 and Emotiva XMC-1) and the clear winner for me was the XMC-1 with Dirac Live. Dirac makes my speakers sound natural to the point that you feel there is no processing but you know there is because everything sounds coherent and well integrated. So at the end sold the Marantz SR7008, sold the Parasound Halo P5 and returned the AVM60 for a full refund.

Yes, and the XMC-1 was the best sounding of all three. In 2.0 and 2.1 modes, only the Parasound Halo P5 was up par to the XMC-1. On a blind test, with both units level matched, I wasn't able to hear a difference between the P5 and the XMC-1. That's why I sold the P5 as well.

It took about five seconds for it to become quite clear that the "naked" XMC-1 was lightyears better sounding than my full Audyssey Pro'd Onk 886.

Oh, this hobby. My XMC-1 will arrive today and with the V3 right around the corner (for Emo values of "around the corner") I'm seriously wondering if I should just flip it and continue to cruise with my UMC. Sometimes it seems like reading really interferes with my happiness.

And a visit to watch/listen to a friend's superior system is worth a thousand words.

Absolutely you should flip it! I can wire you the funds today. Or send you a check or meet you - whatever you fell most comfortable with.

Seriously.

Did I come on too strong? LOL. I’ve been looking for that unit and would rather do the upgrade then get the new chassis.

Watch yourselves fella's. I got a few infractions speaking about "hypothetically" selling a few pieces in the past on threads outside the FS section. AVS doesn't like this. Nor do they like when you speak of other vendors, unless they've come to terms that most of there own are priced like a BestBuy store that not many are foolish enough to spend money with them But seriously, just looking out for you guys.

And @enricoclaudio I noticed this too. In fact it looks like just big dans (LMAO) post is visible. They lost me awhile ago. Not saying I wont purchase the v3 board if they ever call since I've been on the list for like a year, but the snide comments about maybe their customers, most of us which were with them since day 1, should maybe look elsewhere if we can't wait, didn't sit well with me. I may not be one of the many wanting to go ATMOS, but the comments about the XMC never originally being intended for that wasn't very fair either. They sold us on upgradability and "future proofing." If they just wanted systems solely for music then maybe they should get out of the HT market and stop promising so much. Or maybe move over and let someone else run it before it becomes another eD (elemental Designs) company.

Do you mean the V3 HDMI Board Update thread? If is that, I can see all posts.

Thanks for the heads up. I was unaware (my own fault). When i was PMing to continue the discussion I found an old warning that they had issued me that I didn’t see. It will not happen again.

I asked two days ago about the weekly update that Big Dan promised in the last podcast and yesterday he posted that we will be hearing some news from him today. That was 17 hours ago...

Just tossin' this out there ... for those of us who are not hanging onto every utterance from them, this constant drumbeat ... and browbeating .. is wearing thin. This is not the WHINING Emotiva XMC-1 Owners Only Thread!
